kt65 - 2009-11-12 2:15 PM Very tempting to join the women against you men!    Too easy, you might have to mix the teams to keep it fair Can one talk smack even if they are not sure they are going?

How far/close is Dallas/FW to Moody Gardens?  just asking...

Anyone have any ideas about fixing my Garmin heart rate strap.  You know the cap for the battery, well, the last time I changed it, I used a nickel to twist it and some of the plastic got messed up and now it chafes!!!  ouch!  I have been wearing a salon pas patch there to protect my skin...but that seems kind of silly.  I don't know if one can just buy that one little part or if I need a whole new strap!

Can you file or sand it smooth?

John said he might have some ideas, but would need to see pictures of said chaffing to get a better handle on the problem.

So now even Matt is blaming John for turning a simple question into a request for seeing some skin!    Believe me it is not pretty...

kim i knew this was going to be an issue so i stopped for the camera for you on sunday (and i was still faster than sam).  topless chicks are frowned on here so take a pic like this and email it to me.  i'll look at, for a while, and figure out whats wrong. don't worry i won't share.

WOW!!!!!

And on that note...good night.  I will NOT sleep well tonight.

Yep, I had nightmares last night about that picture...

and I got  a little throw up in my mouth. Not a good feeling    Kim maybe you should post a picture of the skin damage just to get the other pic out of our heads . I probably won't sleep well for a week.  lol

I have seen CT's for less. I got mine for $425. There was one in Henderso,NV for $325, but I could not convince Chet to buy it. If I lived there I would have and then would resell it for twice what I paid! If you do not need it right now I would wait and keep looking for a bargain.

BTW: I have an alert set up to inform me whenever anyone in North America puts one up on craigslist.

Spin class and mt biking were my only bike workouts last winter.  It's better than not riding at all.  I came into spring in decent biking condition.

Some of the cycleops spin bikes have power, hr, cadence, speed, etc....  Also can be adjusted for wife / daughter, etc... That and I don't wear out my tires, etc on the trainer...

I think the big news for Lonestar is that they have 50 spots to the Clearwater 70.3 Championship for pros and age groupers!  Some of you have a chance, especially with the roll-downs that happen!

i'd be surprised if that's the announcement,  every wtc 70.3 is a qualifier.  i think its really cool but i'm not really sure how much of a draw that is.  LOL!  at oceanside last year the last slot in my AG rolled down 94th place!

Thank you John - your pic removed the awful blister pic from my head although I'm not sure which is worse.  ;-)

And for the record, I do believe I was faster in my first HIM than your first HIM.  I'm getting so much good training motivation right now - keep it coming.  The ladies are going to wipe the floor w/ the boys.

IMCA 2011 is definitely on my radar. Want to wait and see how I feel about it after IMCDA before committing though. I was actually in a toss up over IMCDA or IMCA this year, but went with CDA. Good thing because it would be lots more fun to do IMCA with you all in 11!

Can one still participate in the SWBKRUN MG if not participating in Lonestar?    Looks like we aready have a bunch of smack talk going on here.  If the money fairy shows up betweeen now and then I would love to make the trip but am not counting on it.

I love this 70 degree weather.  Went out and did a quick 18 mile bike around lunchtime today...it was just too nice of a day not to get out and do something.

dalessit - 2009-11-13 6:00 AM
kt65 - 2009-11-13 8:50 AM Hi guys,

Thanks for the advice re: the heart rate strap...I have filed/sanded it down but will probably still use a patch on my run today just to avoid any further "gouging" of my skin.

Question for Computrainer owners:  I found a used CT on Craigslist for $850.  For some reason, the person selling it has the hardware but no software.  My question is how expensive it is to download that 3D software.  I think the unit is a 8001 model? I emailed the seller last nite but did not get a reply yet.  Guess not everyone gets up at 5am.  What do you guys think?  Is it worth it to just save up and buy a new unit instead? (IOW, is the 8002 model that much improved) It sounds like it is coming from someone who owns a bike shop and used it for fittings and spinscan analysis.

Oh and btw, John, I slept like a baby....but I always do after scary movies.

I believe the software is 60 bucks.

850 is a decent price for it, I think some were on sale on Slowtwitch for about the same price but you would have to pay shipping there.

Overall the CT hasn't changed in 10 years, lol you can still probably use the Super Nintendo version just fine (yes I said Super Nintendo, they set it up to run off that before pc)

Check which accessories come with it.  At one point they switched to polar heart rate strap vs. what I have is the old school attach to your finger thing.  Also if you are going to connect it to a laptop you will need a usb-serial converter, because your laptop probably doesn't have a serial port.  The older version converters, which I have, won't work with Vista or any 64 bit OS, so I have to buy a new one which is 45 bucks or so.  They might not have a converter if they were connecting it to a regular desktop.

Other than those two items the only other thing that is a bit different over the years is the revision of the headset unit.  The newer ones allow you to set the drag while riding, older ones don't.  IMO not a big deal either way, the CT courses are hard enough without adding simulated wind resistance.

If you go to www.racermateinc.com you can pretty much buy every part for the CT.  I got a very sweet deal for mine, paid 300 bucks but had to buy new feet, cables and software.  Even after that still not much more than 400 bucks for the whole thing.

thanks, tony, i just found out that it is a 8002 model...i'm going to go check it out tomorrow and bring the cash...she's a sports physical therapist and was using it for clients...sounds pretty legit.  just wondering why there is no software, but it is only about 60 bucks then it is worth it to me.  the 8002 has only been around a few yrs i think.
