Weather at TTL - updates every 10 minutes...this is today's snapshot.

Big warm up on the way this weekend and next week. Hopefully will keep the lake warmer for a bit longer. I hate the cold.

Me too *whine*

I don't mind the swim (wetsuit, neoprene caps), the bike on the other hand,  I don't want to ride when it is cold..  I hate it..    the run,  no problem.

Did a 22 ml run this morning. Had to swap my ride and run days due to lots of rain here in Houston. Taking my college students on a field trip tomorrow and Sunday is 100 ml bike plus a run. Going to Austin next weekend to swim in open water with the wetsuit (and visit the college son).

You live in Houston? Awesome, I used to live there before I moved to SF... In Fact I trained there for my first IM, right in the middle of Summer, I still don't understand how I did it.. OMG..
Where and what do you teach?

I had to give up the last 30 miles of todays ride after 5 flats riding on the IMAZ course. The BeeLine had all these thorns int he northbound bike lane and I hit every single one! Had to beg for extra tubes and CO2, and then on the last one, I said screw it and called for a pick up! LOL! Happens at least once during a big training build I have a mechanical of some kind that requires a ride in the SAG wagon. Jamie was out running so it was Mom to the rescue!
So that's that bad news fromt he bike course. The good news? It's soooo fast, even with a headwind going north. I turned twice down on Rio Salado and Scottsdale Rd. and up at Shea. 74 miles in about 3:14, so 22.75mph. Get ready for some fast bike splits, peeps!

...assuming you don't get a flat...which I did in 2007.

I will preface this by saying that I am sick...not stay in bed sick, but head cold, cant breathe out of my nose sick with a mild fever and have been for about 3 days...that said today SUCKED for me big time!...I started late and had to do 6.5 hours on the bike followed by a 4 mile run. I went 4.5 hours on the bike before I called it day and still did the run. My bike times were disappointing at an avg of 15.1 mph. This is sad for me considering last weekend I averaged 17.1 mph over 100 miles. Today, I just could not get my heart rate down. Does anyone if being sick can cause your heart rate to be elevated? I am wondering if this was the difference in my performance week over week...feedback appreciated.

Yes the summer has been a killer! Heat indexes of 110... I live in Kingwood (northeast of Houston) and I teach biology at Lone Star College-Kingwood.

I set out to ride 120 miles today.  Well I only got in 100.  The snow hasn't quite melted yet.

I took these pictures 12 miles into my ride.  I seriously considering calling it quits for the day.  I doubled back and found a 22 mile section of bike path that had been plowed.  I spent the remainder of my ride doing loops on the bike path.

I've got a 60 mile ride then short run tomorrow.  Then I can finally taper...woot!

Wow, that snow scene is amazing.  You are pretty tough getting in a good ride in those conditions.

Here are my October totals.  I know they are not where they should be but they are way better than I expected them to be when I was laid up in August and some of Sept. Today, I did 50 Miles on the bike at 18.1 MPH.  It felt easy.  It wasn't that long ago that a 50 would be a challenge.  I am feeling good!

Run: 85 Miles
Bike: 405
Swim: 9k

Still very light on the swimming but, it is what bothers my injured back the most.

Looks like everyone's training really varies when it comes to numbers but...we'll all get to the finish line and that's what matters.  Sometimes life gets in the way and you just have to do what you can!  Wink

Run:16h 15m 49s  - 116.91 Mi

October numbers are extremely dissappointing.  Spent way too much time sick, still have fluid in my ears and my lungs just don't feel right. Aerobically have lost a lot and leg strength seems to have hidden under a rock somewhere.  I have come to peace with the idea of just making the time cut-offs at IMAZ and enjoying the day.  It actually makes me more frustrated then ever over the logistical screw up that didn't allow me to race Vineman in August becuase I was ready for that one.  Oh well, here's the numbers for October.
October's totals:
Bike:24h 10m  - 379 Mi
Run:13h 08m 55s  - 82.08 Mi
Swim:5h 22m 30s  - 14631.23 Yd

Changing your goals makes sense psychologically if life gets in the way. And who is to say you won't exceed your UPDATED expectations?

My goal is to finish without IV bags (or an bloody infected taint haha). Others want Kona or to lose weight. I'm cool with that. Each goal presents its own unique challenges.  Just try to keep your goals in line with your training or lower IMHO.
