Champion 9430 No excuses! | Subject: RE: Memorial Hermann Ironman Texas 2012 : Official Thread KyleMc - 2012-04-15 11:20 PM Hey all. Just jumping in here to say "Hi". Brand new to BT, but not to the sport. Was looking for folks to talk with about IMTX, and glad I found yall. Bib # 2078 and 5 weeks away. I just got that lump in my stomach and it aint dinner. Very undertrained for this one (did IMFL in 08) so I think it's pretty much just gonna be a finish. Throttle way back on the bike and hang on through the run, cause I have a feeling it's gonna hurt. LOL Looking forward to chatting with yall the next 5 weeks. And maybe get to meet some of yall at the race. Kyle
Welcome to the group and to BT! |

They have the new polorized goggles out now that they are trying to sell me, they will be nice for some local races but curious if they will be needed in Texas? I used clear goggles last year and dont remember the sun being an issue. I want to say it rises to your left on the way out, so it will be on your right when you make the turn to come back up the lake, and then pretty much dead ahead when you turn into the canal, but I am not 100% on that. Someone in the area can probably give you better information on it. Sunrise and sunset on May 19th Sunrise: 6:26am |

Last year it was overcast until about 60 miles on the bike (for me) so the sun was never an issue. It won't rise due east though. More a little south of east. If it's sunny at sunrise, you may have some reflection issues heading out on the swim. the waterway might be bad too, but b/c you don't have to sight in the canal, you should be fine there. |

Member 48 | Subject: RE: Memorial Hermann Ironman Texas 2012 : Official Thread You guys brought up a great concern. What is the typical winds in this area? Is the 10+mph a standard? If wind out of the south is the standard then we are guaranted some kind head wind on the return. Just how strong? Just Curious. (one more thing I can worry over) |

(one more thing I can worry over) Let me say 30mph gust is not normal. I would say wind is not generally a problem here and I would say under 10 is what to expect. I am sure we are all ready for 100 degree temps and hurricane winds. |

The Woodlands, TX | Subject: RE: Memorial Hermann Ironman Texas 2012 : Official Thread This time a year is typically windy but not 20-30mph. I didnt do IMTX last year but I do remember many windy rides a few month leading up to it. The day before the race some tents at the expo blew over. Thankfully race day was nice! Just prepare for the worst and hope for the best. Weather here changes by the hr. No telling what it will be like race day. |

It will essentially be the first leg of the race. I will put up a link later when I find it. Only opportunity to swim the lake before that Friday. Get there early because it won't be open all morning. Sponsored by some guy who thought a practice swim was a good thing to have..... |

New user 34 Vienna, Austria | Subject: RE: Memorial Hermann Ironman Texas 2012 : Official Thread April 28th i won´t be in The Woodlands So is it really looking, that there will be no test swim on May 17th or 18th before the race ? If so, is there any other lake close, where you can swim ? - its quite a habbit to have a short 20min swim, the day before race (usually on the race course). btw: how are the temps of the lake ? - i wasn´t wearing my wetsuit at all this year, being 100% sure, that i am not going to use it - is there any chance for a wetsuit swim (i know its allowed without kona qualification, but thats what i am aiming for) thx, erwin |
