One on ehow where the lady layed on her back and kicked her legs out individually and a second on youtube where a guy pushed a bowl of food away and then pushed away from the table. Do you recommend one the other or both. Edited by JBacarella 2012-05-08 3:05 PM |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Just a reminder that you can count one workout per discipline per day in your workout totals. Total time for any workouts accrue but can only earn 3 points per day (with mandated 4 rest days in the month). |

Extreme Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Yesterday I swam. It all went a bit wrong at the beginning when I realised that a) my goggles broke on Saturday so I'm using my spares, b) I took my spares for the triathlon on Monday and c) I hadn't taken them out of my transition bag and put them back in my swim bag. So I had a pair of broken goggles with me, but nothing useable. I swam the first 500m without goggles and then realised that I wouldn't make it through my workout that way, so went and asked the staff if they had any that had been left behind. The only ones they had were kids goggles, but I figured that was better than nothing. So I must have looked very weird swimming along in very small goggles. But they did the job. I swam a total of 4.5k, and was pleased with my 500m times. I started off far too fast at 8m51s, and for a while was almost convinced I'd mis-counted my lengths. But for the last 500m I decided to push it and see how much I'd got left and managed 8m56s, so I guess I still had something left. Total time was 1h 26m 6s, so I'm happy with that. Still haven't got the times from Monday, so I'll have to update those on the challenge later. - Andy: S 4 / B 5 / R 6 / Rest Days 1 ; Total = 15 ; 11:47'53" |

Extreme Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Ok, so the sore legs and tight muscles are starting to go away and I'm missing my workouts. (not sure if that's good or bad). As we approach winter I would like to get a drainer for the odd rainy day but also so I'm not bound by day light and make my workouts easier on the family. Most of the group leave in other parts of the world to me so I'm not sure how much help you can be but it's worth a try, what is the best trainer for my bike and is there anything that I need to look out for? Is there a certain brand or certain type that is best?I dont need a tread mill as I can run when it's dark or in the rain so so it's only for my bike. I hope to start swimming lesson/coaching soon and start improving my swim so that the next tri will be a solo and not in a team. |

I have a Kurt Kinetic that works great. It is a fluid trainer. CycleOps makes another good fluid trainer. I believe they both have defined power curves so even though you may not have a power meter you can still train with power methodologies. You can use both the Kurt kinetic and CycleOps with trainerroad.com where you can download workouts and do power analysis. you could spend more money and get a computrainer that is very whizbang and cool. If I was going to spend more money I would opt for a power meter for my bike and go with teh Kurt Kinetic. Just my opinion. Ernesto has used a computrainer quite a lot so I know he can weigh in more intelligently than me on what he perceives the benefits of a computrainer are (one that jumps out to me is being able to ride profiles of actual IM courses, etc. on your computrainer...very cool). |

Trainers are like anything else in this sport, how much do you want to spend. I use a low end ($100.00) mag trainer. I can only change resistance by changing gears, and I rigged an old bike computer (cheap bell type with a wire) to the rear wheel for feedback on power. For me the most important thing is keeping my mind active during the ride. Otherwise half an hour in and I wanted to start beating my head against the wall. Ernesto and JoeP suggested the Sufferfest videos, I love them. It gives a good hour workout and keeps my mind active. Edited by JBacarella 2012-05-09 9:15 AM |

Ernesto has a comutrainer with all the bells and whistles (way cool). Scott and I both have Cycleops and we love them. The ones we have have a lever that locks the resistance in place. When you take your bike on and off you have the same resistance that you had before. When we bought mine I ordered the kit that have some nice extra's like, 2 climbing blocks, and a thong to protect the bike from sweat and a pouch to hold your remote or whatever you have. The other nice thing about fluid trainers is that they are much quieter than some others. |

I love my Kurt Kinetic trainer - solidly built and the customer service is superb. I've ridden about 1500 miles since January and all but about 200 miles have been on the trainer. Not only is it a hedge against bad weather, but it gives you great flexibility such as early morning rides when the family is asleep. My kids are also old enough that I don't have to watch them all time and can jump on the trainer when they are hanging out.The trainer can be mind numbingly painful, but if you set yourself in a decent environment it can help with the pain. From my perspective, access to a TV is a must - can't do without at. I do use some videos like sufferfest, but I cannot really stand the spinervals DVDs. Second, you need some type of feedback device to measure your workout. I use trainerroad.com and can't say enough good things about it. I love data and feedback and it really helps to keep things interesting. Lastly, fans, fans and more fans. Like a spin class, the sweat just pours off you and even with a couple of fans the fact that there is no moving air makes the trainer into the drainer. |

Expert![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() 4 mile run this morning in new shoes. Blisters on both heels to prove it. Damn, they're the exact same shoe as my current ones, just different color. Yeah, that's it, the color must have caused those blisters. I'm hoping to get these broken in by the 19th and Fargo Half Marathon.

Extreme Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Finally got the finish time for Monday's triathlon. I finished in 1:21:42. I'm really pleased with that for two reasons: 1) My goal was to beat last year's time (1:18:36), but they changed the run route so it was 0.9 miles longer. Only 3 minutes longer for that extra distance counts as a win, and 2) because I beat Kevin! Only by about 50sec, but I'll take it. Still no splits as it appears they had some technical issues with the chip timing. Hoping they manage to retrieve it otherwise I'll just have to work everything out from my dodgy Garmin data. I'm adding the total to the challenge now. I'm not sure what decision was made about competitions, so I'm claiming all 3 sports. If someone objects to that let me know. - Andy: S 4 / B 5 / R 7 / Rest Days 1 ; Total = 16 ; 12:26'41" |
