Master 2770 Central Kansas | Subject: RE: Yanti & Salty Beyond Ridiculous Manatees PART 6--CLOSED So, I'll be the first to ask --- who's racing this weekend? I think I am going to try the 25k on Saturday morning. I'm feeling pretty good. I could play it safe and do the 15k, but I feel like pushing it a little. I'll be doing a run/walk strategy, so I really expect to be fine. I'll take a PB&honey with me. At the 15k point, we're back at the start, and there will be soup and all kinds of goodies. I'll grab a cup of chicken noodle soup, and head back out with it in hand for the final 10k. The weather is going to be amazing. Clear and 55-60 degrees. ETA: I'm hoping for under 3 hours, but I will take 3 hours on the nose. Edited by KansasMom 2012-11-08 4:39 PM |

A summary of his training principles: The marathon-conditioning phase of Lydiard's system is known as base training, as it creates the foundation for all subsequent training. Lydiard's emphasis on an endurance base for his athletes, combined with his introduction of periodisation in the training of distance runners, were the decisive elements in the world-beating success of the athletes he coached or influenced. And other than Wikipedia, I don't know a whole lot about him. So who is teaching it? By "opportunity," do you mean free or how much would you have to pay to go? If it's free, good God, woman, I don't care if the neighborhood homeless guy is teaching it (he probably covers a lot of pavement every day), you MUST go. MUST MUST MUST. Lydiard is a LEGEND. Yes, free. It's presented by Nobuya Hashizume and Lorainne Moller (so yeah, they be legit) I just value my "free" time (no, every waking hour is not spent running ) and it's 3 hours and I get a little ADD Crap, lady, as DubSix pointed out--Nobby himself is teaching it! He's convinced it's the usual case of PF. He wrote me a referral to Phys. Therapist who came highly recommended. That appointment is tomorrow at 2:00. Went to spin class yesterday, felt OK today, I'm still limping though, it's interesting how long this inflamation can last. The PC doc mentioned cortizone as an option but didn't recommend it. I'll chat with PT to get more ideas input etc. Will swim tonight, maybe try and run a few miles after, we'll see how the foot feels. Strasburg sock! Cold potato rolling! Glad to hear you're on your way to getting ungimped, Peanutbutter. OMG. Now it's 5:30am and I am seriously considering making peanut butter cookies for breakfast. I mean, peanuts are a vegetable, right? Aren't they a legume? Or not? They do grow in the ground . . . not on a tree. Technically as a kind of nut that makes them a fruit - maybe? Whatever full of something good I'm sure, do it. I don't get all fussed with technicalities re: food. If it contains edible plant material, it's a vegetable, possibly a fruit. Peanut butter cookies = vegetable Chocolate = vegetable Pop Tarts = fruit
Yes, technically, peanuts/groundnuts are legumes. |

I mean, peanuts are a vegetable, right? You should try peanut butter pancakes. What's a Strasburg sock? Like the cold potato idea, I filled a 16 oz water bottle and froze that for my cold roller. It's my one spelling bugaboo, that's what it is. I can't keep Strasburg, Strassburg, and Strasbourg straight.*
*Strasburg is a city in Germany. Strassburg is The Sock. Strasbourg is a city in France, confusingly close to the German border. |

Veteran 940 Citrus Heights, CA | Subject: RE: Yanti & Salty Beyond Ridiculous Manatees PART 6--CLOSED It was a busy up and down day all around here. The good part: I finally got allergy tested, and I am apparently allergic to every non-food thing except molds and most grasses--I am MOST allergic to cockroaches...I did not even know that was a "thing". Sadly, I have to try out a bunch more nasal sprays to see if ANYTHING will work (everything I have tried in the past does not help.) I am just weirded out--cockroaches?!?!? Of course, it is a constant (losing) battle against them in the reptile house, but still... And now the bad (really really sad)news: We lost one of our chimps today, in fact, Josie was my favorite. she would sign that she wanted drinks from me (when I was a volunteer...) and then toss orange peels at me to "trade" them for drinks if I didn't get the drinks immediately. When she saw those she recognized, she would offer her hand, palm down for greeting and reassurance (against the glass of her exhibit), she would always nod hello to people and hobble around cutely, like the little old lady she was. The zoo release: Dear Sacramento Zoo Member, Sacramento Zoo is saddened by the loss of Josie, the matriarch of the Zoo’s chimpanzee troop. At the estimated age of 48, Josie was being treated for a variety of age-related illnesses by Zoo veterinarians. Her condition worsened over the weekend and after thoughtful discussion between animal care, Zoo administrators and veterinary staff, the decision was made to euthanize Josie this morning to prevent her suffering. “You can’t imagine how tough this decision was,” Zoo Director Mary Healy said. “On one hand you have an amazing chimpanzee that has been a very special part of the Zoo for 26 years. On the other hand you see a friend who has been suffering and you have done everything feasible to make her better.” As a longtime and charismatic member of the Sacramento community Josie will be missed. She was purchased from Africa by a civilian in Fremont in the early 60’s. A few years later she was donated to the Fresno Zoo, then moved to Micke Grove Zoo and eventually joined the Sacramento Zoo’s group of chimpanzees in 1986. Josie loved people-watching and had a special fondness for interacting with young children. She would often raise her hand to the glass as a greeting to toddlers and babies and then kept an eye on them while they toured the chimpanzee area. Josie also loved to paint and often went through phases with the colors she used. She was an integral part of the dynamic chimp group, and a stabilizing personality among the chimps. Josie will be greatly missed by Zoo staff, the other chimps and visitors alike and will always hold a special place in our hearts.
Sorry to make such a long post, but I really wanted to share this with you all. I will miss her. |

Girls - the place I sweat most is in my cleavage and under those puppies! Which results in itchiness and some rashes and just not happy in that area. Any tips? I put baby powder on which eases the itching, clearly wash regularly!!! (soap free wash so as not to irritate the skin) Maybe I need some kind of anti-fungal cream or something. Happy to go see the doc but thought someone might know!!! scratch scratch scratch.... What exactly does the rash look like? Is it bumpy or not? Red/colour? Dry or wet? Any whiteheads/blackheads/yellowheads? Is it constant now or does it get worse after training? Okay - kinda the odd bump here and there and they don't go, eventually turn into a raised mole of sorts!!! Attractive. No white/black/yellowheads or I'd be squeezing hehe! Worse after training, a few days off - no sweating, it sorts itself out somewhat. I reckon it's like a fungal skin rash....drives me nuts, ! Plus you know, one of my better features.... I explained my predicament to the pharmacist - anti fungal cream has been given, apply 3x daily see how we go. Awesome! Need some new crop tops that 'wick away' too. I'lll get on line now and shop! Yay! Sounds good. Also, cleanse the skin (baby wipes or antiseptic wipes if you can't wash) BEFORE you work out, and definitely AFTER, every time. I'd wear a soft, wicking sports bra (like the cheapie C9 ones from Target). |

Master 6834 Englewood, Florida | Subject: RE: Yanti & Salty Beyond Ridiculous Manatees PART 6--CLOSED kgore - 2012-11-08 10:55 PM It was a busy up and down day all around here.
Awww Kate, I am so sorry to read this. It looks like she was a special member of your community, and it is really cool that you had the opportunity to work with her. |
