Artemis - 2013-02-16 6:12 PM Thanks everyone! It was pretty miserable, but I finished. The course was terrible -- lots of stairs, steep slippery brick downhills, crowded crossing, hail in my face for a miles over a bridge -- so it’s not a race I would ever do again or recommend. Super sore right now. Still kind of cold.

OMG, you are TOUGH!!! That sounds brutal!  I love that you rocked it though!!

I hope you enjoyed the Irish Coffee at least!!  Can't wait for the RR and pics!

Obviously it is the end of the freakin' world--I have actually answered to individuals on this thread! I blame running delirium (hm, did I spell that right??? ah, too tired to care much...)

Escape From Folsom 10 Miler DONE! Okay, it was done many hours ago, but I am just returning to non-slack-jawed-reality now (and yet I actually did some running around on errands during the slack-jawed period...sad.) I went only 8 minutes over my attempted time, and I don't believe I was in the bottom ten! Will wonders never cease????? I will attempt to write my own RR now...strong emphasis on ATTEMPT.

So I'll do a little introduction, since I'm late to the party (how rude! Or fashionable?) and there's plenty of people who don't know who I am.

My name is Brie, I live in Massachusetts with my hubby and two kitties.  I've been a BT member for a year and a manatee for a little less.  This will be my second tri season, and I think I've had a good start and my training and fitness is really picking up, especially with the bike.

My goal is to do an Oly this summer - yes, the same one that I wussed out on last year.  My swim is already feeling stronger and I think with some more endurance-focused work once it's lake season I will be go to go.  I'm also contemplating a fall marathon - I do one every 2 years, once the memory of the arduous training and painful race fades from memory, leaving just the feeling of awesomeness that running 26.2 gives you - but haven't committed to anything.  If the group I run with up here does Newport, RI, I think I'm in.

I'm also focused on losing weight/toning up.  It's not so much the number I care about but the firmness.  Right now - too much mush.  I've been doing weight watchers since Jan. 3 and I've lost 9 pounds so far!!  I think I'm hitting a plateau - I'm at my body's happy/effortless weight - so I'm trying to push myself harder with exercise to beat that.

I'm a lawyer by day, but I really do not enjoy it, so I'm looking for something new and fun.  It makes it very hard to stay focused on what I need to get done 9-5, which was a big reason I weaned myself off daily BT/Manatee activities.  But, screw it, you guys are awesome and as I start ramping up my off-season training I could use some support, encouragement and of course, entertainment (Yanti can handle that on her own, honestly, but everyone else, feel free to pitch in)!

Glad to have you back Brie! This will be season #2 for me as well. TOTALLY looking forward to it!

Swimming a race with real swimmers is a humbling experience out of 21 in my age group I was 21st and in females I was 64th out of 67! And I feel great! Not many people I know would take on a 2.5km OWS at all. Proud

Congrats on the swim!  That sounds like a lot of fun.

I hear you about the humbling part.  At my master's swim classes, I'm totally in the slowest lane. But I'm pretty sure can swim faster than most people at a local sprint.

After yesterday's race, I know that I'm not going to be in good shape to do a 1/2 Marathon next month.  Fortunately, I can defer my entry to next year.

CONGRATULATIONS JO!!! You are awesome and a very accomplished swimmer in your own right. I would say of the three sports in their endurance forms (with the possible exception of bike crits with Cat riders) it's probably toughest to go up against the single-sport swimmers.

I did hear (and not just from you but the other usual suspects ) that it really was an exceptionally shytty race.

Nevertheless, the path of less is almost always more regarding running and injuries, and speaking of which, how are your hips feeling?

P.S. Okay, I'm not going to do this all post by post so ...

CONGRATULATIONS BADGER JEN MOOSE! Way to persevere. Holy crap.
