Yeah!!!  I'm finally feeling better!!!!  I did a psuedo brick today too!  I taught my evening Spinning class and then ran on the treadmill.  I had to hold myself back!  Happy days!  I guess I'll stick with my Sunday half marathon plans.  I was seriously considering changing to the 10K.

Nicole, glad to see you back in the pool!  You won't be a sea slug before long!

My running club takes care of all of our needs to race a lot.  We have at least one race a month and sometimes two.  We also have a friendly circuit competition going.  We have to run six, club sponsered races during the year to be included in the circuit.  We place as high as possible among other racers (club members and non-club members) in our respective age groups.  Every January, there is a club "Christmas" party where the previous year's circuit winners claim their prizes.  My husband has won his circuit a couple of times.  I didn't run enough club races last year.  I think I'm in second in my age group as of today.  I'm sure that will change after Avenue of the Giants.  The quick girls my age always show up to this race!   Have a great day!

I decided to do the 10K rather that the half-marathon.  I just wasn't feeling up to the distance.   So sad.  I did get a 10K PR, though!!!  Yippee!!!   Got to meet Steve (Baowolf) too!  He did the half mary and he did quite well for his first half mary!!!  Congrats Steve.  It was nice to meet another BTer!!!!  (In October, I met Madkat at the Humboldt Redwoods half mary.)  Steve, I hope you had a good drive home.  Did you take 299?

I stayed at the race for a looooong time to wait for a friend who was doing her first marathon.  She finished in 6 hours!  I'm so proud of her!  She trained really hard!  Cheers everyone!

Awesome! Had a lot of fun and beat my goal time by 30 seconds. I just finished my race report if you guys want to check it out.

Great job Tracy, Steve, and Sarah for your races this weekend! Looking forward to seeing the race reports.

I'm heading back to Kalispell this afternoon. It's been a fun weekend, but now I have to get ready for my youngest's graduation party this coming weekend and all the houseguests we're going to have.

Roni, great race and race report. What's this "yellow section" stuff; how's that work?

MDHillSlug - 2008-05-05 9:18 AM Roni, great race and race report. What's this "yellow section" stuff; how's that work?

Bloomsday start is divided into sections. The elite (kenyans, olympians) are first, then the second seeding (qualifying time of 38:00 or less in 10k for men 47:00 or less for women), then the yellow section (verified time in a 5 mile or longer race within the last year of a 9:40 pace or less), then green, lilac, red (I may be missing some of the later colors), which are all based on predicted times, but no verification needed. The start is in waves based on these colored sections, and what tends to happen in the unverified sections is people say they will finish as fast as allowed without verification just so they can start sooner even though they actually intend to walk. So, it is very hard to get a decent time in the later sections because it's hard to break out of the pack of walkers.  With a time of 1:12 or less in this years Bloomsday you are automatically qualified for yellow section next Bloomsday.

Thanks for explaining it. The unverified sections sounds like my pool swim triathlon last year (and this July). You are required to state your swimming time for 100m and then they seed you in order from fastest to slowest. This is supposed to reduce the need for passing, etc. Unfortunately, people often either lie, or simply take a guess and are wrong.

This race had a strange distance (12k). Any idea why?

Nice work this weekend Tracy!  How is Steve feeling?  How are you feeling?

That is awesome that you stayed out to watch your friend finish.  It's so great when people are at the finish line cheering you on!

You DO know what you're doing, Shaun!!!  You're training has been awesome!!!

I was talking about Zipps with one of my Spinning people this morning.  He has never tried them but he said that they can give you a significant advantage, especially if the wind is blowing slightly.  He said they act like a sail and help propel you.  (Just don't get caught in a perfect cross wind.)  You will also experience less fatigue for your run.  They are pretty spendy to rent so think long and hard about it!

I got out for a run this morning, but it was pretty much a run unlike all of my other runs: Usually I start out fast (~8:30 pace) and then get continually slower until I kick it up in the last mile/last 1/2 mile. Today I started off feeling tight and sluggish and was running at a "middle mile", 9:30 pace. However, I basically held this pace for all of the run and even got a little faster as I went. Is this a better running/race strategy?

Awesome, that sounds like fun!  I have about 50 miles planned for tomorrow (after a 2100m swim), but it's just a training ride.  I like the organized rides better because the rest stops have yummy stuff like COOKIES!  :-)
