Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() My friend ran a personal best of 24:49. It was her first time below 25 minutes for a 5K. A real live honest to goodness cool spell came through the area late last night. It's 67F with low humidity and steady wind.

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I'll work on a race report later but the important thing is I demolished my time last year by 15 minutes. Great race and I had fun and I'm certainly pleased with 15 minutes faster over a sprint distance course. |

Royal(PITA) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() From my blog today....asking for thoughts cause I am almost incapable of putting together a coherent sentence at this point.
I am feeling so beaten up. I wore the calf sleeves yesterday afternoon to help the legs recover and they do feel better for that....Soaked in the jacuzzi with epsom salts for at least half an hour and just feel as if someone took a baseball bat to me. Looked at this week's plan and it makes no sense. It reads:Monday 4--Tuesday 8--Thursday 4--Saturday 17. That is HALF my mileage for the week on one run. Sounds a bit heavy. Looked at the other plan I started with and it reads: Monday 4--Tuesday 8--Wednesday 4--Friday 8--Saturday 17. I don't think I can do such high volume....that's why I changed plans, it was just too much. But doing half the weeks distance in the long run is painful in too many ways. I might take the original plan mileage but drop one of the 8 milers to 5 or 6. Thoughts? |

Listen to your body, it knows what it is talking about. Adjust as needed. No plan should be taken as written in stone. |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Originally posted by QueenZipp I suck at running so take everything I say with a grain of salt. From what I have read having such a large percentage of your weekly mileage in one run isn't a good idea. Are you running forth days a week each week? Can you keep your weekly mileage according to your plan but spread it over 6 days and do the 3-2-1 system that people talk about? I am not sure that this is a good idea, its more of a question really. From my blog today....asking for thoughts cause I am almost incapable of putting together a coherent sentence at this point.

You'd been doing somewhere in the 20's for weekly mileage, then all the sudden did near 50 two weeks ago. And for some time you have had your 2nd biggest run on Friday and then the long run Saturday and it's 50-80% longer than the other. It looks like you made way too big a jump in mileage the one week and are also stacking too much mileage too close together much of the time. If you're really hurting a lot, you may need some recovery. And for future mileage, does your schedule permit you to move some of those days around? Need to spread the bigger days apart and possible flatten out the mileage or maybe decrease it some depending on how bad you feel. |

My new plan still has a pace run but it is generally 2 days before the long run. I had to flip days around last week due to scheduling conflicts. Part of the week with the 50 miles was because the half marathon was on a Sunday and I usually do the long run on Saturday so that week had 2 long runs spaced 6 days apart. Yes, it sucked....but I didn't see much way around it with the HM on a Sunday and getting back on plan post race. |

Do you do a run-walk method? If not, maybe you should check into that; may help keep your legs from feeling so beaten up. |

So going forward it's going to be those two close proximity runs. The 2 day separation should help some, but I'm also curious as to what constitutes a "pace run". Couldn't tell too much detail from the notes. I'd think it'd be more like Tues/Wed for that, but 2 day separation is automatically an issue. Very confident it's figuring out some sort of balance with these particular runs that will make the difference for you. Also saw that you walk when necessary, are you getting a feel for when that is? Can you tell before the run starts, or rather early on, if walking at some point will be likely? On another note, do others put workout details under the blog entry? I tend to put anything related to a workout in with the workout and leave the blog for more general stuff. It doesn't really matter when looking at the blog area, but it does on the calendar. Scanning over things goes much better and faster with all workout details in with the specific workout. The blog comments will show when Comments is clicked, but then it's necessary to bounce back and forth or memorize more information. Edited by brigby1 2013-09-15 5:51 PM |

The blog comments will show when Comments is clicked, but then it's necessary to bounce back and forth or memorize more information. IF I were using a detailed plan, I would indicate what the specifics were for each work out. Instead I have a list of mileage for each day with the"pace run" as the one before the long one. I think he intends that the pace run be done at higher intensity. I just haven't got any intensity in my legs right now. They feel dead most of the time. They don't hurt, calves are okay (that's the big worry area) hip flexors are fine..... I like to enter details when I have them, but usually the route will at least indicate elevation if people want to see that. Thing is, I don't have a lot of running routes with higher volume. I tend to do repeats of smaller loops so there's always a convenient pit stop for the bathroom/ fresh water if needed. I just haven't bothered to separate out the various loops this year. I used to enter each loop with it's specific time but for all the volume it's just too much to mentally sort out and keep track of. |
