Member 63 Woodmere | Subject: RE: Dream Chaser's 'Set a Goal and Capture it!' Mentor Group - CLOSED First off Rene congrats you were incredible! enjoy the euphoria!!!! Second i wanted to share my inspired training week. this past fri i wasnt able to make it to the pool i train at so went to a friend who has a decent size pool and decided to swim ten mins get out of the pool and do 12 push ups repeat (until my husband said its time to go) so i get out of the pool im doing my pushups and i look at my hot pink fingernails and think wow, i am awesome, this is amazing! im not just an overweight girl trying to loose weight i am an athlete. i am doing this to get better faster stronger! so when my friend who as a serious biker asked if i wanted to join there sun morn ride i said sure. hes like its 630am i said bring it. he picks me up at 545 we drive to the meeting point and his group is us and 3 other men and lead by our local bikeshop guy who is an insane biker. everyone had fancy bike shoes and what not and they didnt seem to thrilled to see me. boom we start they are so fast i can barely catch my breath but all is good i settle into the pace my friend and the leader were continuously giving me amazing tips. we took on hills that just dont exist near my house. at one point on this never ending hill the leader said do you want me to give you a push? and i turned around and said no way i am determined. i pushed on i kept up with there pace most of the time and rode 43.6 miles! it was incredible and after words the leader said i was really worried about you but you did awesome!! as did the other guys said i did well keeping up. the point is i pushed my self and it feels amazing. i lookfoward to this sundays ride. i had one more moment yesterday i went to the pool and the pool wasnt open for another 45min and i didnt have time to wait in the past i would have gone home. but now i was dressed in my gym clothes as i had weight trained before, i put my stuff back in my car and ran in the noon heat it wasnt a long run but it was exhilerating. i came back to the locker room and litteraly was pouring sweat like a faucet and i was so damn happy. happy to have taken an opportunity to train. and happy that i am doing this, training for this triathalon is so much deeper then i expected. i am so greatful i made this choice. and i really am happy i lucked into this group. i know i have been mia, but when i do log on and read all of your hard work and grit it inspires me...to be a rockstar athlete like you guys. ok thanks i just needed to share that and thought this would be a good place to do that. |

Master 1531 TORONTO | Subject: RE: Dream Chaser's 'Set a Goal and Capture it!' Mentor Group - CLOSED Havajava - 2011-06-29 7:00 AM Second i wanted to share my inspired training week. Thanks for sharing Chava! Your story is inspiring too!! The way you are making decisions to get your training in and not letting yourself off the hook is amazing. It's so easy to find excuses. Also the enthusiasm that shows through in your words! It's really incredible how much your life can change by just getting up and moving. A friend recently described my life as 'insane sportiness'. Funny because I have NEVER thought of myself as sporty or athletic. What's sad is that - really? I exercise on average an hour a day during the week. The health guidelines recommend 30-45 minutes per day. But compared to others - yes it would seem my 'sportiness' is excessive when really - it's just that they aren't meeting the minimum requirements of a good healthy lifestyle. Keep it up Chava! And make sure to check in and let us know how it's all coming along. How is everyone else's week going? I have to say I have had some good workouts as of late. I used to run this hill ("THE HILL") that I always had to walk to the top and by the time I reached it I would be gasping and sweating profusely - feeling as though I couldn't take another step. Today I ran a route where I incorporated THE HILL in to the run 3x - I RAN it each time and while I crested with a racing heart and was breathless... I knew I could do it again if needed to. AWESOME feeling to know you are getting stronger!! |

Veteran 265 | Subject: RE: Dream Chaser's 'Set a Goal and Capture it!' Mentor Group - CLOSED Chava - thanks for sharing that! Your enthusiasm is great! Makes me want to get up & do something right now - unfortanutely I have to finish some paperwork but I am looking forward to this evenings workout with greater anticipation!
This week has started well for me - I did skip out last nite trying to get work things wrapped up before leaving town tomorrow for a long weekend. I plan on a couple of nice swims in open water - we are headed to the lake for the weekend. Plenty of jet-ski & water skiing as well as the hours of driving the boat pulling the kids. With 14 kids there will be no rest for the boat this weekend. Hope everyone has a great 4th! |

Sorry, I have been so MIA lately. I'm still running and building toward a consistent 5K. I finally bought a bike today and am looking forward to my first ride tomorrow. And last, but certainly not least, I became a dad over the weekend. Life is good! |

Expert 4923 Middle River, Maryland | Subject: RE: Dream Chaser's 'Set a Goal and Capture it!' Mentor Group - CLOSED INJURY UPDATE: GETTING OLD IS HELL Well, I just got back from the Ortho doc and have the diagnosis of a mild medial meniscus tear and arthritis under the kneecap. He figures both of these conditions existed to some degree or another but my foray into carrying 120 pound window air conditioners down three flights of stairs, combined with running 11 miles two days later, probably caused the inflammation that I am experiencing. So a cortisone shot today, with very limited activities for a week, then slow resumption of normal activities (and no, that does not mean running 10 miles ). He's pretty confident that should relieve the problem, but if it's not feeling much better within a couple of weeks it's artho surgery time, probably in late July. So, what does this mean for racing? 10K Monday is obviously out (that's OK...I hate that damn course anyway). July 8th tri is out for sure. Mid-August tri completely depends on the effect of the cortisone shot...I'm not going to try any running until we get back from vacation about three weeks from now, which would only give me four weeks to get up to speed...maybe I'll just do the sprint instead of the OLY to minimize the running. I'll be good to go for the Baltimore Half-Mary if I'm OK to run by August 1st...lost a full month back in '07 to a misdiagnosed vein issue and still was able to finish my first HM in mid-October. I'm trying REALLY hard not gain bad weight (i.e. around my belly). I have no worries that my family will keep me informed of that situation (Daughter: "Daddy, your belly is getting BIG!"). So, in either case I have a defined end game...either start training again in 3-4 weeks or surgery and another 4-6 weeks. At least I know what's in front of me now, and I know my knee isn't going to fall off. |

Master 1531 TORONTO | Subject: RE: Dream Chaser's 'Set a Goal and Capture it!' Mentor Group - CLOSED CONGRATS on the new addition David!!! (and no I'm not referring to the new bike!) Sorry to hear your health update Mike but I guess the silver lining is that you now know the issue and the course of action required. Is there any chance you can defer your registration to future races? Or turn it in to a relay event and get someone to cover the run portion for you? Just a suggestion. Rest up and time will heal all. So I am counting down the minutes!! 20 more to go and then I am FREE! I will go for a swim this afternoon and then run a bzillion errands. Tomorrow we drive to Deerhurst and will celebrate Canada Day! Saturday - rain or shine - I will ride the Muskoka 70.3 course. I figure if the weather is brutal (which it's supposed to be) then it will be good training for race day and hopefully it will be easier on that day. I've read horror stories about the hills and the not knowing is killing me! I'd rather just know the score and train around it so ya... Saturday. Then I relax. My first day with no training in a couple of weeks so woo hoo! I hope everyone has a great long weekend!! |
