Blanda-the fall sounds scary.  Been a long time since I had the wind knocked out of me.  Always a helpless feeling wondering when things would "reset" and I would be breathing again.

Long day to Atlanta and back.  Some nasty weather this morning but not too bad.  Spent about 3 hours at All3sports while they tried to figure out what was going on.  Turns out it was the "wiring harness" from the right aerobar that operates the RD.  Corrosion had caused a problem with the connection.  Went ahead and replaced my cassette and chain while I was there as each had 5500+ miles on them.  The guys at All3sports were great about getting to me right away and the total labor cost for installing the cassette, chain and wiring harness was $25.    I'm glad to have my bike functioning correctly agian and am looking froward to a good workout tomorrow.  Did not purchase anything else....I think my wife was worried that I would pick up some "necessities" that I really didn't need.

Woohoo! UNC beats Duke.  I've been a big UNC fan since I was about 4.  They choked in the last game but were able to "hang on" to a 20 point haltime lead to get the win!

Blanda that does aound a tad bit on the scary side. Must be something about Guam and going over the handle bars. When i lived there I went over the front of my handle bars on abike, however I think I was six and had no shirt on and it was on the asphalt road and fell om my chest and face. It was very nasty. Mom was pull gravel out of my scapes in the bathtub.

Hope everything is ok Blanda.

Looks like a leisurely run after church and a swim this evening.  I am doing a 500 meter TT in a 25 yd. pool; total yardage will be about 1400 with WU and CD.  I believe at 500 meters converts to about 546 yds.  I will be signing up or my first local sprint in May this evening and they need a swim time for seeding in the pool.  Not to excited about pool swims.

Have a great day everyone.

Thanks for posting the video, Blanda.  Looks like a great race and a fun community.  Cool to see a bit of Guam... it's one of those mysterious places to me that I could point out on a map as a kid and always wondered what it was like :-)  Sorry to hear about the fall... smart to get back on the bike (as long as you could).  I had a rather spectacular fall once skiing which included going head over heels several times, dodging several large rock outcroppings, and winding up in the middle of a completely different slope.  That was the last time I've been on skis.

Good runs, guys!  Today's half marathon was a reminder that I need to make sure to get the long runs in.  I think I can safely say that living off the marathon training from last Fall is officially behind me.  Pretty challenge day, weather-wise.  10 seconds after the start we had a massive 15 minute downpour, and throughout the race, we had 25 mph winds - especially challenging on the uphill bridge against the wind.  At about mile 11.5, started having some hip issues, so the last couple of miles were spent just trying to stay under 10 min miles.  Time was 1:54 something... given the conditions, quite acceptable for me.  About the same as last year, I think.  So, I'll consider that improvement.

I'll me moving slowly the rest of the day.  Hopefully will get a good bike ride in tomorrow before heading back home.

Good job Stu!  Solid time in tough conditions.

I was able to get in a good 1.5 hour interval workout on the bike.  Will try to get in an easy run this afternoon.

For those of you that do alot of your biking inside or on the trainer make sure you wipe your bike down good after a workout.  I was amazed at the amount of corrosion around my front derailleur. I use towels to minimize the amount of sweat that gets on the bike but don't always wipe everything down.  I'm sure the humidity down here doesn't help.  Just a reminder....and something I will be do better.

Beautiful day here.

Did a 500 meter/ or 550 yd TT in the pool this evening.  Turned in a 1:37/100 yd pace.  Not bad for a week of swimming.  This is probably what I'll submit for the Sprint Tri in May for lane seeding purposes.

Hope to add the Bike in this week.  During my run this morning, my right knee was causing me some typical pain on the inside; more than usual.  I was trying to go slow and I think the impact of going slow was more bothersome than pushing the pace; so I picked up pace and it felt so much better, like it didn't exsist.  I think after this tri season I am going to have it look at.

Have a great week everyone.

Blanda I am not sure when our club shirts will be ready to purchase.  I have a Tri Club meeting tomorrow and will have a better sense then; if you are still interested.

Brian-nice swim!  Hope the knee is OK.  Mine has been a little finicky as well.

Was able to get in a 5 mile run this afternoon.  Legs were kind of shot after the morning ride but felt better after a mile or 2.

Looks like a busy week of training ahead...about 12 hours.

Stu - Good race.  Sounds like a tough day out there.

Randy - A tip I picked up somewhere, is to use Glad Press and Seal on your bike while it is on the trainer. You just tear or cut off a small piece, and mould it around the part you are trying to keep sweat off of.   I put it on my stem cap, where my aerobars attach, and will now think about the front derailleur.  It is very unobtrusive.  I found with my road bike it wasn't such an issue, but with the body position in aero, there is definitely more sweat on some fairly important parts of the bike.

Nice training and racing everyone!  It is spring 'break' for me.  Yesterday I drove a van full of American and German graduate students (followed by 2 other vans -- 25 people in all) to a live-in research institute at the coast, owned by my university.  We are having a week-long 'spring school' (normally it is a summer school, but not quite summer yet...).  I went for a run last night through the preserve -- the institute is normally devoted to marine science, and they own many many acres of land where they operate.  I picked a dirt road and just ran.  The moon was bright and I'll I could hear was the sounds of frogs and other nighttime animal sounds.  It was fantastic.

Off to teach the students, now....  Have a great day everyone!

Hey everyone-kind of quiet here today.  Everyone must be back at work.  I did an easy spin on the bike/trainer early this morning and a swim at lunch.  Daughter has soccer game tonight and tomorrow night so trying to squeeze in workouts when I can.

Great training, guys! Sunday was a day of pain for me. Monday every part of my body hurt, especially my calf, which cramped during my soccer game. That cramp brought tears to my eyes, it hurt so bad. Haven't had one of those in moon!

Xterra is Saturday. AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!

Going to run down the road and back from my office at lunch. Nice and flat. Don't want to ask too much of my angry calf. Tomorrow I'm going to ride up the hellacious hill that is the beginning of the bike portion at lunch, then swim with the team in the evening. Thursday just swim, rest Friday.

Now, I say that, but it all depends on how cooperative my kids will be for the evening swims. My awesome parents are taking them Friday night. I'm going to get my hair braided so it's not an issue race day. It's at a length you can't tie up, or leave alone. UGH! Girl problems. Friday night is the mixer where we'll get a race briefing. EEK!

Randy: Awesome you got your bike all all fixed up!

Brian: OUCH!! I think I would have cried if I was your mom seeing you all hurt and banged up like that. Totally interested in the shirt. Let me know what you find out!

Stu: Oh, gosh. I don't think I'd ski ever after that either. How scary!

Hope all of you are healthy and having a great evening!

Bennet-thanks for the tip on the Glad wrap.  Definitely will give it a try.

Blanda-sounds like you have a good plan for the week leading into the race.  Getting to the starting line healthy should be priority number 1!  Give your body a break if you a feeling a little beat up.

Morning all.  I have internet only sporadically here.  I think I mentioned I'm at a Marin Science research institute near the coast of SC (in the salt marshes, actually). I went for a ride yesterday.  At my turnaround point there was a fire tower, which I climbed (no simple task in bike shoes with the wind howling!) and took this picture:

I'm going to try for a run today, and hopefully tomorrow I can make it to a pool somehow.  Not sure about that one, though.

Have a great day everyone!

Thought I would share some exciting news for my family.  My son, a HS senior, recently commited to run cross country/track at the University of Alabama.  Through his hard work in school he is getting a very generous academic scholarship in addition to the athletic scholarship.  Will try to attach a link.  Very proud of what he has accomplished.  Looking forward to watching him compete over the next few years.

Randy - congrats on your son's accomplishments.

We're having some really rainy weather here.  Lots of thunderstorms which will force me to ride the trainer tonight, and maybe again Thursday night depending on how long the weather lingers.

Randy: I will definitely listen to my body. I don't want it to hurt! Congratulations to your son, and to you and the Mrs.! Fantastic achievements and a fabulous future at school ahead of him. I know you're all over the moon proud of him.

Did the hill at the beginning of the Xterra bike course. Easier today than usual, so that was a relief. Tomorrow I'm going to swim in the morning, then drop into the dirt bowl of the bike course to find all the markings. Friday a couple of my teammates, who are doing the race, and I are going to jog through the run course to find the markings.

Hope you have a great night.

Morning all.  Sorry you have to deal with the rain Jason.  Weather here is great.  I managed an 8 mile run yesterday, which is further than I had planned, but the running surface is very soft (occasionally sandy and too soft), so I went for it.  Fingers crossed...

Have a great one everybody -- half way to the weekend!

Blanda-looks like you have a good plan for the days leading up to the race.  Scouting out the course is always good....even though it sounds like you are familiar with it....never hurts to know where everything will be come race day.

Michael-looks like you have had some great weather and good venues for training this week.

Swim at lunch then an easy run tonight for me.

Well I have some bad news.  My gym, where I had access to a pool Monday through Friday 5am to 11:30pm and never busy (no line sharing), is closing its doors on Friday.  Lots of pools around here but lane schedules not so good, and usualy busy from what I've seen.  Can't wait till Lake Ontario warms up enough, maybe I can get lots of OWS.  Unfortunately that water is, 90% of the time, very rough.  Will take wait I can get.

Now need to go check out lane schedules and re-work my plan for my HIM training.

On the positive side we are getting great weather.

Great write-up on Gil, Randy.  You and Mrs. Randy have much to be proud of :-)

After a bunch of traveling the last month, the remainder of March looks relatively clear other than a bunch of St. Paddy's related gigs, so I'm hoping to get back on a regular schedule.  Today was a mid-distance sprint focused swim and bike class tomorrow.  If legs are feeling better, might run a bit tomorrow too... but am still sore from the race and the drive.
