Member 3145 Carbondale, Illinois | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Open For Business Feeling like a bad@55 this morning!! Made it to 50/400 and that milestone is huge to me!! 12.5% of the overall total (in only 11.0% of the year). 49/400 was a spin class this morning, followed quickly (but perhaps not quickly enough to be considered a brick) by a short 2.14mi run (50/400. Between yesterday afternoon and this morning, I have two runs, which is the number I got in last week. One more sometime during the week and I'll have the challenge for the week met (BTW...David--the challenge for the week is to do one more session in your week sport than you did last week). I'm also working on my nutrition this week. Starting out, I just want to log everything I eat. I'm consistently amazed that I can workout out 8-10 hours a week and still not lose weight, and it all can't be explained by muscle increase, or I'd look like Stallone in Rocky. So, tracking food intake and making mindful choices to fuel my body. |

1 | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Open For Business Good morning! I am hoping that you group is still open and available for a fellow beer drinking women who would like to do this tri thing!? Here is my bio: NAME: Chrissy STORY: I swam in high school and did quite well then joined the Air Force, got married, had a couple awesome kids, got a desk job and got lazy until about a year ago my sister and I started doing crossfit. Loved it but my wrists have sever carpal tunnel and I took a break and ran only...then we moved to Florida and my hubby said, "Chrissy you should do a triathlon". I am trying to avoid getting a job and/or getting fat so I said I would do it but I need some help! That is why I am joining this group if you will have me. FAMILY STATUS: I am married and have two amazing kids (boy -7 and girl - 8). They have done one tri and loved it. We hope to do some more soon. CURRENT TRAINING: I found a beginner's tri guide on pinterest and I have been trying to work on that but I really need to get back into running so that has been my focus any advise here would be appreciated. I did an outside run for the first time yesterday 4.3 miles. It went really well and I could have kept going I guess but I got really really hungry. Today my right abductor is really hurting and I have a bit of a cold so I am not going to do anything but walk my kiddos to school and rest. 2014 RACES:: None RACES PLANNED FOR 15: Still looking and would take advice here. I am in the panhandle of Florida. BEER PREFERENCE: Anything but domestic garbage. Loving me some Oatmeal Stoat lately...it is a good winter beer WEIGHT LOSS: I lost about 15 lbs when I started Crossfit last year and now I truly have a hard time keeping weight on. I don't eat enough calories and I have a fast metabolism (thanks mom!). We did the paleo thing to loss the weight and have now brought back in a limited amount of grains not because of the gluten thing but because they hurt our tummies OK so that is me in short. Looking forward to this experience! |

1007 DeLand, Florida | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Open For Business So much going on... First and foremost I want to say what an inspiration this crew is. Sandi you're a fighter and your attitude through all this craziness is nothing short of amazing. (BTW the wife is an avid Rudy Project user and she loves them. She needed prescription sunglasses for the bike especially but also the run and those have been awesome). Scott - the second those stitches come out you're already back at it 100%. Awesome! Nicole - battling adversity from medications making you dizzy and still doing it anyway - also awesome! (but please be careful ) Cynthia - your ability to make workouts happen with the schedule you have is nearly mind blowing! Gretchen - the positive attitude through all the two-a-days and everything else is fantastic. Special congrats on staying ahead of the curve (12.5% of workouts done in 11% of the year)!! |

1007 DeLand, Florida | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Open For Business Originally posted by aviatrix802 Needing input: Tell me if I'm crazy: my sis-in-law texted me last night to ask if I would be interested in doing the Tupper Lake Tinman at the end of June (only 4 1/2 months away...). I hadn't planned on it as I want to do the HIM in Lake George at the end of August. She signed up - has never done a tri at all and I don't believe has run in a HM race (but has other races). She is strong and lives in Park City so has altitude working for her and a huge set of kahonas to sign up for this.....so I'm thinking this is pretty motivating and I need to get off my duff and get on it. Okay, so I can't run yet...but I will soon and worst case I run/walk the half at the end to save the knee. Am I nuts for contemplating doing this? The swim would be the easiest part for me right now, ironically. Jenn - I think you absolutely have it in you to do it! The biggest worry is the knee but as long as you are mindful of it and don't push it for the race you'll be fine (though you might not want to walk the full 13.1, that will take forever... ). For me at least it's tough to have a race coming up and try to train around an injury. Everything goes so slowly and you keep feeling like you're not going to be in shape for the race and the temptation is always there to train hard and forget about the injury. Without fail this makes it worse and sidelines you Just keep at the injury prevention and healing and you'll be great! |

1007 DeLand, Florida | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Open For Business Originally posted by Qua17 As for now - here is my plan. I've got 13 weeks until the Season Opener in Hopkinton. Hopefully a few BDASers who love in New England will do it with me. Hopefully by then all the snow will be gone - but it's going to be close! To help keep my food in check - I'm going to sign on to fitnesspal and Buddy up with Alex. that worked a miracle and I would not have that Ironman medal had it not been for Alex kicking my butt into gear. Dave - you've got me reconsidering the Season Opener. I at least want to be there to cheer you and any other BDASers on (lack of parking be damned!). 13 weeks I think is enough time for me to prep for it. It just has the potential to give me a nervous breakdown trying to prep for that one as my first ever. Cold water, 1st OWS without having OWS practice or wetsuit practice, for this terrible swimmer... On the fence between this and the Marlborough Lions Club as my first. The Marlborough I'll be WAY more comfortable with. I need to do one or the other, right now my wife is pushing for me to do my first at the end of July and honestly I don't want to wait that long! Ooh, just looked at the Max Performance site for the Season Opener, and there's a Duathlon..... 2mi/10mi/3.1... |

I may be able to do this - my birthday is the next day - leverage. hahaha If you, Dave, and i went we could have celebratory Switchbacks! I'll bring! I'll let you know if I can swing this - i also coach baseball and I don't know the schedule for that yet. got my swim in yesterday and an hour long trainer ride today (mind numbing). LOL i was going to swim too but I just don't have the time today to squeeze it in. Next week - aerobars........whoop, whoop! Edited by aviatrix802 2015-02-10 12:35 PM |

Hopkinton is only about 2 hours for me from here. OOooooo, I could bring Switchback too!! Join me in the Tupper Lake Tinman! It's Saturday June 27th I think. There is a sprint option too. That will kick you into gear!! It just gave me the boost I needed to get going! For you it would probably be a 4-5 hour drive (I'm not sure where in MA you live). I am thinking of doing this though i may have to walk a bunch of the run at the end pending my knee. Hi Jenn - If mother nature can contain herself (and there are no more snow days), I'm hoping to be in Michigan by the 27th of June. Otherwise, I'm there! As for the season opener - it's a great race. Well run, picturesque, and challenging - its worth the drive. Give it some thought! |

Most of us are suffering though a snow-filled winter up North and the only thing I ask is that you don't talk about how tough your 70 degrees days are. A few years ago, one of our members (who shall remain nameless - right Nancy Boy!!!) kept posting stories about how his outdoor pool was closed because the temp had dropped below 70. Such a tragedy. I can't handle another round of stories like that Seriously - welcome. Please let us know how we can help you reach your goal! |

It would be sweet if we could all be decked out in our new BDAS gear and sucking back a few switch backs and Jack's Abby at the finish line. And I'm more than happy to drink an extra beer to celebrate Jenn's birthday - if I have too I'm also thinking about doing the Marlborough run as well - or the Go Ruck in Worcester at the beginning of the month. Still searching for something to capture my passion. |

Expert 4269 | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Open For Business I resisted the urge to stay in bed (it's a snow day and I was tempted) but managed to make it to the pool for 30 minutes of aqua jogging. I also signed up for myfitnesspal and am now buddies with Charles and Alex (thanks gentlemen for the accountability!) While I was doing my "laps" I got to thinking about ways to make the BDAS a little better for those of you who are new to the sport. One of the things we did in the past that I really liked was to have a topic of the week - where we would have a question of the week and then everyone would comment on it. I learned a lot from these on-line conversations and if you all are interesting or think they would help - I would love to start this again. If you have a topic that you would like to explore in the coming weeks - just reply to this post or DM me. Let's start off with something that gets me fired up - work out music. I'll start the post below. |

I almost never listen to music when I work out. If I'm outside, I don't do it out of safety concerns. I want to be able to hear the car coming. When I'm inside I am likely listening to an audiobook. However, since I started going to spin classes, I've been reconsidering the audiobook thing. My tempo tends to increase when the music is jamming, so I actually thought about switching to music during my run today over my book. |

New user 42 Sumter, South Carolina | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Open For Business Hey guys! I've put in workouts 36/400: 700m swim and 37/400: a 28 minute threshold run so far this week. I've started my taper into my half marathon in a couple of weeks, but it won't affect anything except run volume for another week and a half. On the music front: I tend to listen to podcasts while I run because I've been working really hard on my cadence tempo and songs always affect that for me. And I'm too lazy to find songs that are the right tempo. On the beer front: I need to go to the store. I'll report back later. Hope everyone is doing well! |

Sandi- I'm so so sorry to hear about everything! Keeping a positive attitude through everything is the best thing right now, and you seem to be doing that well. Best of luck with everything!! I just downloaded myfitnesspal and will try to find you, DQ. My name on there is nerby14. I am home sick today :-/ I'm not exactly sure what I have, but I have a constant, severe headache (I never get headaches, not even when I am hungover), and feel very out of it. I've also been so tired since the weekend. I didn't go out or drink at all and got a minimum of 9 hours of sleep each night, yet was still exhausted. There's been a flu going around here lately, so I'm worried I have that. Bracing for the worst, but hoping for the best. I'm mostly bummed b/c I had such a good week last week, and I feel as though I'm going to lose that fitness. Hopefully this passes soon. I hope everyone else is doing well! |

Music doesn't do this enough for me, so I listen to podcasts. 99% of the time it's Zen and the Art of Triathlon. Sometimes I listen to The Brewing Network (Sunday session is funny, and Brewing With Style is informative when I'm researching a beer style I have not brewed). I saw KOL once too, years prior to their success. Was underwhelmed then too. But the guitar in that song is perfect for getting fired up during a run. BTW very happy someone gets my musical taste!!
