As far as Road ID's for kids, just one question: Are any of you worried about some sleaze bag reading your child's name and then using that to entice him/her by pretending to know them or you?

Or am I just really paranoid?

The writing is so small that I think I'd notice someone trying to read the info.  Let alone if you put in on the child's ankle.  I guess with that regard, I would rather have the info out there with my name addy and phone number on it.

In order for someone to read the writing on a Road ID they would physically have to be touching my kids, in which case there is already a huge problem!!!  It's not the same as writing their names on backpacks or something that can be read from a distance.

I am a little scared of the whole road ID thing for my kid...I am afraid if someone stole him they might bring him back

I was thinking of getting the one with the online info - it keeps Dr information, emergency contact, etc that is available to emergency services...  Less personal information left lying around that way...

The only reason I didn't go that route was b/c my oldest is starting to ride her bike around the neighborhood solo and God forbid something happened I want the good samaritan to have my phone number as quick as possible.

I'm on board for the RoadID for putting as much info on there as possible.  I was able to fit my Name, City/State, NKDA, NO Med/Hx and 3 phone numbers.  If anything happens to me while I'm out - the medics/police know all the essential info.  I plan to do the same for my girls.  I would rather have as much info out there as possible - you've got to rest on the 'good' in others before thinking about the bad.

When I go on calls (medical or fire) and treat someone who has no family or friends with them, I always look for Med Alert bracelets or something beyond the DL or state ID.

John, omg, there was an episode on Dexter (yes, Jeremy and I are Dexter freaks) this last weekend where a serial killer gains a child's confidence by saying "Are your parents "x and y?" he got the names off of the car sticker!!! and then says they were in an accident, yada yada, abducts poor kid by saying he's going to take him to the hospital... I'd never seen the sticker with all the names over the stick figures.  Scary stuff.

yes, i am going to respond to the who's racing post in a little while.  that goal thing takes some thought!

From what I saw, you can do two lines - top line would be name and birth year; second line phone number...

Edited for spelling - I don't have a lien on my daughter...

I'm with you on that one...  Kids name, school, -  follow them home for the address, a little property tax record lookup and you have parents names... That's all the info a predator needs - nice and easy like...

SSMinnow - 2009-12-02 5:01 AM I know of at least TWO people who are going to race.....wonder who they are..crazy marathon + fantatics?????  Anyone else?  Lay down your goals!

My bike frame is scheduled to be delivered before Christmas.....my bike builder is coming over tomorrow with his recommended parts for it. Know the Durace group set is on the list....any ideas from the bike afficianodos?

Alright, I've been thinking about this alot because way back in July/August, I thought it'd be cool to BQ with my marathon, and that was the goal.  Since then, my training has gone so well that I am going to shoot for a time significantly lower than 3:50.

My main goal is really to execute my race plan as well as possible and adapt to any circumstances which might arise.  If I do that, I will break 3:50, 3:40, maybe even 3:30 (yes, never would have imagined this could be a possibility but it is a nice goal to have), as long as I stay strong and smart until the finish I will be happy with the time.  I also never imagined writing that down for people to see, but I love all of you guys...it'll help to know you are rooting for me to do well.  (and that I get to come back and tell you how I did

That said, I am eating really well this week mostly proteins and carbs but pretty much as much as I want so I am not hungry.  Drinking water even though it is cold here...I have to empty 2 22 oz here at work during my 9 hour day.

Roni- to that end, I am not reaching for that bag of Cheetos or Lay's but rather having an extra serving of whatever we are having for dinner.  Lots of chicken, rice, pastas, veggies.  I will have the cheetos and lay's on Sunday evening while I pig out watching the Amazing Race finale!

Thanks for all of the inspires, guys, they mean so much.

YOU GO 6726!!!!

I Like this quote I dislike this quoteIt is not by muscle, speed, or physical dexterity that great things are achieved, but by reflection, force of character, and judgment

Suzy---- Campy (I have on my Cervelo) is stubborn, and not many bike mechanics work with them well.  They are a blast from the past, however that being said if you have a good mechanic that loves Campy they can be great.  Also, ask Ryan, my wife, and any one else that has ridden w/ me--- they are noisy.  You can alway tell when I am coasting (on their back wheel ) by the clicking that occurs when I am not pedaling.  A little annoying!  Sounds like Doug has experience with both, and he might be your go to guy on this stuff!

Man, you all blew up over the last couple days.  I hit the road and you all post like crazy.  Sitten in a Baymont in Evansville, IN right now.

Anyhow, I have to address the Road ID/kid issue.  Anytime we go anywhere with kids (even if they are not mine) I take a picture right before we go in.  That way I can show officials exactly what they look like and what they are wearing right then.
Doesn't help much for kids riding around the neighborhood, but I feel good having those images when we are at Holiday World...or a Cubs game.

Raining here in Evansville...sounds like a perfect night for my first run in a while.  Knee and achilles have been feeling good so I'm going to try it out.

Suzy, I think you should go for the electronic stuff...be the guinea pig for us.

Racers...rock it this weekend!

You start wearing that dress from the wedding (a few hundred pages ago) more often and maybe Santa could see things differently Wink

Don't envy the run...between a bad dinner, the rain turning to freezing rain, and the ceiling in the workout room being so short I can't stand on the treadmill I'm just going to bed early.Yell
