Extreme Veteran 380 Houston | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread I am up for the swim, the trick or treating with the kiddos and any advice you can provide. I've completely lost my mind and need to take deep breaths just to focus on basic stuff at this point. Hopefully I am not the only IM rookie that completely loses it about 1 month to go. I am certain it's going to be great but that doesn't seem to help me from forgetting really simple stuff lately! I couldn't remember what time the 2 YMCAs I always go to for swims were open this morning - this will get better?? I found the info (finally) and called the folks to confirm I am all set for the Dunes of Panama and we will get there early enough to grab some candy with the kids on Oct 31st. Avery turns 9 on Halloween! |

You have a child with a birthday too, my daughter turns 8 Nov. 3. She gets an Ironman Party. Haha. Seriously if she does well on her reading assignments in school and hits all her goals, mamma is taking her to swim with the dolphins. |

Regular 138 Georgia | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread I'm hoping to roll into PCB on Monday afternoon. I've got the condo all week so I figured I might as well use it. I really haven't been in open salt water since my water survival days in the Navy 30 years ago. I hope to get in the water for at least a few minutes each morning. I'd also be interested in meeting up for any easy recon rides on the course as the week progresses. |

9 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Has any veteran IM reversed their long weekend workouts (ie do long run on Saturday, then long ride on Sunday)? I've had knee trouble in the past and have read that doing the long run the day after a long ride is more stressful on the knees/legs. Of course that may be the purpose of the long weekend workouts.... |

Master 2238 Dallas | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread triplebbb20 - 2012-10-02 9:57 AM Not a good idea, the long run puts a lot more stress on your body than the long bike. It can happen at a cost, but it can be done. Endurance Nation has the long runs usually happen on Thursday and two bikes on Saturdays and Sundays but there's a day off in between. That is the only plan that I have seen where the run comes before the bike, everybody else I know does bike/run in that same order.Has any veteran IM reversed their long weekend workouts (ie do long run on Saturday, then long ride on Sunday)? Member 40 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread I had to flip my long run to Sat and long bike/brick to Sunday just this past weekend. I was traveling all week and didn't get home until after midnight on Friday. Typically I don't do that - but hey we have to live, work and have other obligations. Do what works for you. There are many paths to reach the barn door. On another note, I just spilled boiling coffee down the front of my dress and my neck is completely red. If that isn't something to take your mind off an impending IM - I don't know what does!!! OUCH!

Of course that may be the purpose of the long weekend workouts.... All the time. I swap them around based on what fits the schedule that week... Typically though I like to put the long run first...it does help with injury prevention to not run on exhausted legs week after week. Biking on exhausted legs isn't nearly so bad because it's lower impact. |

I actually had a bit of a trail running accident on Sunday and gashed my shin up pretty good. Though I dont think anything is broken, I am black and blue like you wouldnt believe. Going to try and test some running today, but honestly I am not feeling too optimistic about it.
You're still trail running? I quit walking around the house barefoot two weeks ago cause I'm scared I am going to stub my toe. Next week I plan on wearing my bike helmet everywhere but to bed.

Yes, while I do not do it exclusively, I do it pretty often. The ride folowing a hard run acts as a recovery as well since it is low impact. I just make sure when I do a long ride the day after a long run I focus on specific HR zones for extended periods of time and not sub set intervals with 10 min @ or above race pace. |

2 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread I am glad to hear there are other ironman rookies getting nervous and forgetting things gives me some comfort in numbers Having bib numbers up makes it feel close. Before that I had always been able to convince myself I had plenty of time. Thanks for all the ideas you guys have been posting and keep them coming. Arriving Wednesday and would appreciate a group swim.

Expert 1148 Santa Fe, New Mexico | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread If you're thinking about meeting for the group swim, but haven't decided here are a couple of things to think about: It's a great way to start your day. Great place to meet the BT folks who have been posting, and with whom you'll be racing Great place and time to decide on lunch plans, or driving the bike course plans, or help I've forgotten something Great time to get a little swim in on the venue and figure out what to sight on. In past years we've all headed out together, and stopped several times to chat and look around. Some people want more of a little swim and some just want to experience the Gulf - waves, temperature, etc. Good time to make some new friends. I use it as a dress rehearsal - I do the same routine as on race day each morning. All I do different on race morning is start earlier (and allow some time for body marking and dropping special needs bags) Edited by jashac 2012-10-02 4:15 PM |

We are getting into PCB on Thursday morning, so with athlete checkin I doubt I'd have time to make that one. Looking forward to putting faces with screen names. Bib #1472, BTW. Just typing that makes it seem oh-so-real. |

Expert 977 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread seitz1124 - 2012-10-02 6:50 AM Arriving Wednesday and absolutely in for a few swims. I need it. I'm starting to freak out about this swim. To the IMFL veterans...any advice for the "non swimmer" IM? I just did Augusta in 33 minutes but I know that was all current. Just back from Augusta myself. 28 min swim compared to 1:18 at IMFL just to give you a comparison. As someone else mentioned, use the draft. Get in the middle of it and let them pull you along. The swim is crowded but not too bad after the first turn. Totals for this month(tapered a bit for IM Augusta) Bike: 435 mi 25:39 Run: 72.2 mi 13:08 Swim: 26,312 yds 9:28 Cross: 4 hr |

Saw my Spine and Joint doc for my ankle, he is referring me to a sports doc for ultra sound and maybe a cort shot. Hope he can get me running again - hate to come all this way just to walk the run. |
