Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Catwoman - 2012-03-07 5:11 PM Randy, Congrats to your BAMA boy! Great article! This really says a lot about your son and how you raised him: He cares for his teammates and is an incredible leader. I have valued his insights and love how he works hard to improve his talents.” How far away from home will he be?
I'll second that Randy, Very nice article. I was interested in the school as well so I poked around on the website. I am a Public School Administrator so I was naturally interested. We don't have anything like that around here, at least from what I know. Appears to be a very proud and longstanding traditioned institution. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hey, guys! I got in 2000 meters at the pool this morning. Warm up of 500, then did 1500 (Xterra distance) straight with "open water" turns. After than, I attempted a bike through the hills, but after the heavy rains last night, it was mucky. Ended up hauling the bike a bit. Took it easy, walked through the dangerous, yucky stuff, and took some pictures, lol! It was actually a very relaxing ride even after all the hills leading up to it. Here are a couple photos: Here's the snaking ridge I usually eat red dirt at.

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() No such luck with training on the bike yet. Had to go purchase a Freezer this evening and then we went out for Supper. Not sure tomorrow will be any better. I am actually going to a Skype event being put on by one of our tri club members who has obtained some time with Gordo Bryn. He wrote the book Going Long with Joe Friel. Should be pretty cool. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Blanda-amazing pictures! I would have a hard time concentrating on racing with those views. Intervals on the treadmill early this morning. On the road for the day and then an easy spin on the trainer tonight. Have a good day everyone. Randy |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Blanda -- fantastic views! You're lucky to be able to get up there and appreciate it outside of the race. I raced in a beautiful dessert area around Las Vegas last year but basically saw nothing of it while suffering on the bike -- the aero position doesn't really lend itself to site seeing.... (Fortunately, we drove through on a different day.) Brian -- here's hoping for a ride for you soon. The thing with Gordo should be interesting. Please report back! Have a great day everyone. This seminar I'm doing is starting to exhaust me. One more day to go... |

![]() Decent run today. Hoping the weather clears up so I can ride outdoors after work...but it isn't looking promising. |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() sstucker - 2012-03-07 12:43 PM Well I have some bad news. My gym, where I had access to a pool Monday through Friday 5am to 11:30pm and never busy (no line sharing), is closing its doors on Friday. Lots of pools around here but lane schedules not so good, and usualy busy from what I've seen. Can't wait till Lake Ontario warms up enough, maybe I can get lots of OWS. Unfortunately that water is, 90% of the time, very rough. Will take wait I can get. Now need to go check out lane schedules and re-work my plan for my HIM training. On the positive side we are getting great weather. Sylvain, you must be a Premier member - so am I. I saw that Oshawa was closing (along with Milton for me). Luckily I can still access the gym in Oakville and they have a 25yd pool. But as to weekends, now I have to actually show up at the pool with swimmers....good thing I hardly ever swim. |

![]() Surprisingly, the weather held up this afternoon. Barely. We got some light sprinkles, but most of the rain stayed in the mountains. I figured if the Gods were nice enough to let me ride, I better ride hard...and did. Nice easy run tomorrow morning. |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() On my way home today from the salt marshes. We did a cool field measurement yesterday with the marine scientists, helping them to count species in a study of diversity and distribution of species in the salt marsh. The no-see-ums were awful, but otherwise it was very cool. Have a great Friday everyone. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Blanda - amazing pictures. When is the Guam tourism board hiring you? Hoping to get a short run and a swim in today and then catch a bunch of ACC basketball in Randy's honor. If you are an ACC b-ball fan, it is the best time of year! Now I just wish my beloved Hoos didn't have two transfers, two broken feet, and a broken wrist taking out 4.5 of their players... they're not going to have the depth to be a factor in the tournament :-( Stu |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I'm heading to the race. I'm scared out of my mind of failing. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() BLANDA - GOOD LUCK!!! I just saw the first pre-view Xterra post on FB and thought of you. YOU WILL DO GREAT! Take your time and race your race. Have a blast and tell us all about it as soon as you recover. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Stu-sorry about the UVA loss. They have lost a bunch of close ones this year. Another day of travel. Was able to get in a swim and run this afternoon. Long ride and brick run on the schedule for tomorrow. Yeah! Its the weekend. Randy |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Knock it out of the Park Blanda. GOOD THOUGHTS!!!! Have 12 mile run tomorrow with same group I ran with last week. Looking forward to it. Much more enjoyable running with others. We'll see how the weight is. Of course I am weighing in after I run so that will help some. Haven't been able to swim or bike all week. I'll shoot for a bike and swim on Sunday. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Thanks so much for your help and kind words of support. I missed the cut off by about 5 minutes. I don't even know where to begin with all the things that went wrong. OK, wasn't a kabillion things, but a few big ones. Off to cry in my beer some more. Enjoy your weekend, guys. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Blanda-sounds like a tough day. Try not to define success or failure by how you did in the race but by what you accomplished just getting to the starting line. You've become a solid mountain biker and learned how to swim...great accomplishments regardless of the race outcome. Take a couple of days off/easy and then move forward. You seem to be a very positive person. Don't let this get you down or discourage you from signing up for another race. Randy

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hope everyone is out getting their workouts done. Good day of workouts for me. 2.5 hour ride which included 1 hour of hard intervals. Then, brick run off the bike. Schedule said "30 minutes...see what you can do." Turned out to be a recipe for pain as I set a goal of 4 miles in 30 minutes. Worked into the first mile @7:53 then averaged 7:23-24 for remainder to come in at 30:04/4 miles. I'm pleased with the effort although I was WHIPPED at the end. Good workout to take measure of where I am in my training. Scheduled for an hour run tomorrow and it will be at a very EASY pace given how my legs feel right now. Enjoy your Saturday. Randy |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Blanda, crying with a beer in hand sounds like my kind of girl. It is not a failure but a lesson learned. You'll make it next time, no worries. I got a 26min run then jumped on the bike for 30. Things are going smooth with my work so next week I'll attempt to put extra workouts, not too many as my official HIM training starts week after. I ordered a cheap set of clip-on earo bars, hopefully that will give me an extra 5mi/hr (alright I'm dreaming). Should receive them by next week and have them on to start the HIM training. I did get a new seat about three weeks ago, when I thought I would have time to ride the bike Cheers |

![]() Blanda - Don't be too hard on yourself. You have come a long way. And for the record...I checked out the course profile of your race. That bike course looks like a BEAST!!! Certainly not something even the average BT'er could do. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Blanda....It is hard not to look at all the things that go wrong on race day. We can learn so much from those experiences even as hard as they are to digest; they teach us a lot about ourselves. Use it to fuel yourself to new goals and outcomes. Give it a day, cry in a couple of beers and then find something else to get after and Get' R Dun!!!! Sun comes up the next day. Of course if you are in Oregon you may not see it behind the clouds, but on Guam I'd say that probably fits most days. Also, thank you so much for the wonderful pictures. That red clay brings back memories as does the other pic. Take Care. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Had a nice 12 mile run this AM with the running group I went with last week. Pushed the thought of getting a tri Bike to my wife; one step at a time. Now that that has begun to sink in it may come to life some time this summer. Not sure what tomorrow brings, but maybe a swim and a trainer ride on the bike. Down another .8 lbs. at weigh in this morning. Hoping to be under 200 in about 3 weeks (6 lbs.). I need to be much more disciplined on weekends. Can't wait for spring break at the end of March. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Looks like everyone is having a good week of workouts! Blanda, great job on your race. I know it didn't turn out like you wanted it to. But as everyone else has said there is always more to be gained from a less than ideal race day. I personally can't even imagine ever signing up for an Xterra race let alone one on the terrain that you were on. Brian- you're getting in some really nice runs. congrats on the continued weight loss. Due to rain, house remodeling and other circumstances the majority of my training last week was on the bike trainer. I'm hoping the gains made on the bike will show at Lonestar in a few weeks. Running is coming back and hopefully will be there in time for the race. What do you use on the bike for HIM or IM distances? I've used Infinit for the last 3-4 years. But after having problems at IMTX and a bike race last year it is time to change to something different. I've got to come up with something quickly as Lonestar is on 4/1. I've only used water during my trainer rides. It is stupid to be this close to a race without a solid bike nutrition plan. Oh well.... |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Brian/Jason-nice workouts. Rene-how is the calf doing? I have always used Accelerade but rarely mix it at the recommended strength. For most training rides I use it at about half strength. For a race I will adjust depending on the length of the race and how many calories I think I will need. Also use the Accel gels. Longish run planned today. Legs feel a bit better than expected. Randy |
