I got into Horribly Hilly Hundreds after entering the lottery so I have my first June bike event on the roster and it's a doozy (over 10,000 feet of climbing)..... And best of all, I am getting a new tri bike! Won't have it for about three months, but the design has been signed off on and the deposit check has been cashed
Gald to hear about your good news!! I hope the bike is everything you imagined! I just hope its better than the Ru! Come ride the HHH with me and we'll see..... Well it would be more like you ride the HHH and I'll meet you two hours later in the beer tent when I'm done. If you mean Hotter than Hell Hundred down in Wichita Falls, TX then I'll be there to join you... usually its not much over about 102 for the final few miles... (although two years ago, it was 114) |

Veteran 287 Tucson | Subject: RE: Swbkrun mentor group - Closed SSMinnow - 2013-02-08 3:08 PM desertchica - 2013-02-08 4:44 PM So I ran my little 1 mile run this morning. Started with about 20 minutes of a brisk walk. It went ok but my gut says that I should not be running yet. I have pain under my knee cap on the lateral side. PT thought I may have some meniscus pain there but she really thought it was more likely to be IT band pain. In my research at home I see that the IT band inserts right where I have pain but I just don't know. Anyone here have this kind of pain with IT band? I will try a short bike ride tomorrow. If that goes well I will stick with that and swimming for another week.
On a more positive note, I swam almost 8000 yards this week! I am getting faster which is always nice. Don't think I will ever be blazing fast in the water but that is ok. Probably won't ever be blazing fast on the bike or run either.
Good luck to anyone who is racing this weekend! Hmm, typically you would find pain at the insertion point which is here: Your under the knee cap description makes me nervous. I'm not PT or doctor, but if you are running on it and it hurts, I would stop. Occasionally you will have an injury where the pain subsides as you warm up. I usually feel it's ok to run on it then so long as when you finish it doesn't hurt ALOT afterwards. If it hurts tomorrow, I agree you should hold off running. Personally when I am coming off of an issue, I am never running a solid mile. Instead it would be something like: 5' walk/2' run/3' walk/2' run and repeat until you've gone 10' of running. Doesn't sound like much, but your body is telling you that something isn't right. you're smart to listen to it. Thanks, Suzy. I had some discomfort in that area in the picture AFTER I started foam rolling like crazy. Go figure. No discomfort there now. I am thinking the under the knee pain may be a different issue. It is weird. I mostly only feel it when I stand after sitting for a bit. I felt it a bit while I was running and feel quite certain that if I ran longer I would have been in trouble. So tired of running injuries. Thought I finally had it figured out. At least I have swimming still. Hopefully biking will be ok too. |

When we were students we had to limit our plates to one per person in the apartment otherwise we'd end up with a pile of stuff in the sink which literally moved because of things living in there, cockroaches, mice etc.....yuk! I've just got off my bike after another long trainer ride, really tough today but got it done. Trainer Road kicks your butt, there's never an easy section during the longer workouts it's just relentless. I find the hard shorter ones with tough intervals followed by recovery so much easier to handle. I think next weekend I'll get outside but the TR indoor workouts seem so much more effective that they sort of become addictive. If makes me worry that I won't get the same benefit if I go out on the road!?! |

Great ride... However 2x to use the restroom in under 3hrs? Were you hydrating a bunch beforehand as well? Keep an eye on that. When I had this issue I had to change out my saddle. At least I have swimming still. Hopefully biking will be ok too. I have a pain under my kneecap like you describe.... . I have since been to a sports medicine specialist to ensure that my running would not be detrimental to my knees. I have runner's knee in both knees, along with jumpers knee and IT band on my right knee. It is really important to go to the PT to ensure you do not injure yourself farther. Also I have a brace that he perscribed that helps termediously. ( yes I hate them too. ) I find that when I run at a slower rate that I don't have the pain as much as when I run faster with a longer stride. The bike is difficult for my IT band due to it is hard to use a brace when I ride. I recommend not doing any hard rides till it feels better or you get it looked at. Hope your knee feels better soon. Also please see a specialist to ensure that you are getting better not worse. It can put you out a long time if you are not taking the proper percautions (brace and PT) and being careful. |
