I’m at the hotel in STL waiting to fly out early tomorrow. Since I have nothing better to do, except work, I went to the pool and did 30’ of aqua jogging. Man! That is WORK!! My quads and calves are burning!

Yesterday I did another aqua jog in the hotel pool (in Tampa this time!). This morning—1:45 on the hotel treadmill. Thank goodness for espn replaying college football! Off to the beach with some friends this morning, then flying home.

Bummer!! Do let me know when you’re next in town. I come up often for various reasons and there is a good chance we could overlap!!

49.89mi on the bike today. It was, I think, the last long ride before my HIM. It felt really good and I've got a lot of confidence now for race day. New saddle is better, but I'm still not sure it is the saddle for me. But...it does feel better the faster I ride, so there is some great incentive to push harder!

Hi everyone! I am emailing from a train somewhere in the French countryside! I have not run nearly as much as I planned, so I need to get on it this week! Hope everyone is doing well!

Wrapping on an on-call week for me, managed a short 5 mile run on Saturday and a 45 minute bike ride on Sunday. On my ride I did some high intensity intervals which was a fun change of pace from my usual "just go for a long ride" weekend ride. Coming up this weekend I may do a charity ride that's about 60 miles, a bit further than I'm used to riding but at least I won't be running immediately afterwards!

Howdy...just spent an hour or so fiddling with my bike position on the trainer - turns out I needed a longer seatpost (going with a 410 mm now, was a 350mm) in order to get into my position and not go past the "maximum" mark on the seatpost.  Feels a lot better - probably almost an inch higher and maybe and inch more forward than it was before.

@Gretchen...almost two hours on a treadmill - I'd hang myself with my headphones.  Most I've ever done was like 7 miles (a little over an hour) and I thought that was bad.

That's awesome!  What a great way to see it too.  France looks beautiful on TV every year of the Tour de France

Hi All - just checking in.  Still running, my HM is Nov 4th.  Training is progressing very slowly, mostly because this time I'm only running, with no S or B for cross training.  My weight is a lot higher than usual.  And despite having been doing it for 2 months, I'm still getting used to running in Florida summer.  Saturday for my 13 mile run it was 80 and 100% humidity, and sunny.  At 730am....

Gretchen I love your new bike!  I'm a one bike guy right now, an aero road bike.  I can put my aerobars on it and Time Trial, or I can take them off and do a normal group ride or whatever.  If I had the money and space I'd have a dedicated tri bike, and a gravel/road bike for everything other than time trialing.

We're supposed to close on the house on the 26th.  Move in and furnishing (we currently have two beds, and a single dresser and that is literally it for furniture) are going to take like a month so it'll probably be after my HM that I get back in the pool and on the bike.  The good news is that in Florida, I can ride all winter long!

Keep up the great work!

Nice, long swim with masters today, after sleeping through it (and a 10am meeting!) yesterday. I slept for 14 hours Sun night/Mon morning...until 10:15. I can't tell you the last time I slept that late. Guess I needed it, after the long trip. I'm in the last big week of training before taper, so I'm not pushing myself to do anything but try to hit my training times and stay healthy. That second part is becoming a full time job, as my wife comes home every day and tells me there is someone else in the office sick. So far, there is TB Larry, who hacks up a lung all day and Throat Punch Pam (whom I told my wife to tell I would throat punch if she got C sick!). Wife's boss' kid is also sick, so there is an extra layer of fun...kid germs.

Finally made it back in the pool after a long hiatus and managed a short swim. My arms are not feeling it as much as I expected so next week I'll go a bit longer. Looking forward to my coastal bike ride this weekend!

Short bike on the trainer after work and then a TERRIBLE ows at the local lake. It really took the air out of my sails. I couldn't sight, swim straight, or even swim at all. My feet, left calf, and left forearm cramped all at the same time. Oh well...if the worst thing that happens in a day is a bad ows, it is a pretty good day.

YES.  Survive and fight another day!  This is especially true of the second workout of the day.

great hour on the trainer (thanks rain!) followed with an awful run about an hour and a half later. Clearly, 90 min wasn't enough recovery time for a non-brick run and I should have brought some water along with me. I didn't, and after 45 min I ended up walking home due to dehydration. This training thing is a work in progress...all the time.

Last long ride workout (60mi) before my race!! It was good and bad at the same time. I hit slightly over goal pace for the whole of the mileage, but at some points riding uphill and into a 15mph headwind, it sucked too. Overall, I've very happy with the way it went. Followed ride up with a quick brick run. That wasn't great, but it served its purpose.

Side note: I found a new favorite ride food—stroopwaffles (sp?) from gu. Coffee and caramel flavor. Normally at the end of a ride I want to gag at the idea of eating one more gu because of all the sugar. No problems this ride! These are awesome. They taste great, have some solidness to them, and have both sodium and caffeine. Only problem is they are kinda expensive. But—-givn a little free time in the off season, they can be made at home.

Long run followed by a short bike today brings me to TAPER!!! I’m so freaking tired lately, so this is a welcome reprieve for me. Felt very strong on the run today. It was a good one all through and even at the end, I felt like I could keep going for another hour or more. This is nothing like the same time last year when ever long run and ride ended with me absolutely shattered.

Hi James, welcome to the group! Sorry it took so long to respond, I've been trying to do so since 5am this morning, but the forums were having a glitch and wouldn't let me post anywhere.

Please go back to page 1 and copy the introduction template set out by Qua17/DQ/Dave and fill it out for yourself. We'd love to get to know you!

Gretchen - Happy Taper!  Also those waffles are the best.  Honey Stinger brand makes them as well, not sure if they're any cheaper than the Gu version. Culturally speaking, they're Dutch so if you have any kind of international food store near you, there might be some 'real' ones as well.

James - Welcome to the group!
