Oh no, I definitely believe you about being a) not a morning person, and b) a weather wimp ... ummm ... just check out my own posting times and geographical location

Good luck on the morning swim! Imagine us in a ring around your bed, chanting SWIMMY SWIMMY SWIM!!! and dragging you out by the feet ... I am sure you would really love that.

I've totally noticed that you're also a big night person. Yay! I love having someone on my side. Some days I wish I could join a 24 Hour Fitness again, just so I'd have the option of working out in the middle of the night. Years ago I had a 24 Hour membership and I would literally work out at 2 or 3 a.m. about once a week. I loved it.

You know, I think that imagining you guys chanting in a ring around my bed might actually help. Well, it's worth a shot anyway.

So I have to say, the road rash from Saturday's crash is becoming rather spectacular. Is it wrong that I'm a little bit thrilled whenever someone notices/asks about what happened to my hand? It's so much fun to shrug all nonchalant and say, 'Oh, you know, just a bike crash, no big deal.'

I TOTALLY AM!

Heh, no one would say that if they saw me gasping my way up the "easy" climb in the Berkeley Hills. Did I mention that I got lapped three times by the same guy? I was starting to think he was flirting with me, but no, I think he was just doing hill repeats.

I DID IT!!!! I had my first 1000M workout in the pool!!! There were some short breaks though but I would say nothing longer then 30 seconds at most and not very often!! I think all was FS except for 200 Back and 50 breast. I know for you monster swimmers this isn't much but it is HUGE for me absolutely HUGE!!!

Awesome job on the swim, Shawn!!  I had a super short swim today thanks to my kid who decided it would be good to poop (in diaper at gym daycare) just as soon as mom (me) got in the water.  Argh!!!!  Since I didn't feel like traipsing through the entire gym in my swimming suit to change said diaper, I just swam a quick 400 after my warm up and called it good.  Better than nuthin'?!?

Erin, we are all hard core on here!!  Just wait until race season begins, this mentor group will be ON FIRE!!!!!

Okay, okay, I'm caving in--I really have been keeping up and am so delighted to read of all your activities (even the cold ones, even the ones you don't want to do, not making it into Spinning(R) class--hey, you tried!) ... thank you ever so much for keeping the flame alive!

I was not going to post until I finished that daggone index (yes, I am actually working on it!!!) and I want it to be on a tens-even page ... can you believe we're on page 30?!?!?

Lots of biking for me today--and some of the fastest/toughest riding I've done. Pat, pat, pat.

AWESOME job on the rides!!  PAT, PAT, PAT!!

Thanks for the GREAT index!  It is making it sooo much easier when referencing previous material!!

Yanti, I am still trying to find an OLY in either TX or CA - seems ticket prices are very similar, so though I was originally planning TX, it really wouldn't matter.  I did take a look around for something near you, but didn't see anything for early April though   If you know of something, let me know.  I'd love to make it out that way & hopefully get a chance to meet you!

For any of you that have raced before . . . it seems races tend to fall on Sundays - I'm envisioning being worthless after the race haha  Not sure how true this is . . do you usually stay put on the evening of the race and head home the next day, or travel the same day?  I'm trying to figure out if I'll need to take Monday off after my planned Oly and HIM . . . Will I be able to move after the HIM??  Maybe I'll want a day off regardless of what day I travel?  Any thoughts?

Thanks!

I can't really speak from experience, but I'd guess you will definitely want to take a day off after the HIM. I felt just fine after my (near-)sprint last November (just a little sore the next day from keeping "aero" position for 40 minutes straight -- I'd never done that before) -- I went out with friends right after the race and went out again that night -- but I took a day off from work anyway just because I felt like I'd earned it! I'd imagine that if you train well then it's about the same after an oly, but I would think you'd be pretty tired after an HIM.

Hey, if you end up doing a race in California maybe I can join you guys. That would be so great!

Congratulations !!!

Shawn, that's incredible! You are awesome. Your accomplishment is what (I believe) lies at the heart of tri ... that it enables us to do things we never thought to do (much less thought were possible). In fact, you DID accomplish the impossible, because before today ... it WAS impossible!

This, too, is the beauty of our sport ... every day is a new endeavor, and there are so many wonderful landmarks to hit in tri, always, whether you're a newbie or an old tri fart .

Renee (and everyone else, of course, too )

There are good Olys on March 22 and April 20 here, but that's it. Do NOT travel the day of, although I'd say it's fine to travel Monday and go to work Tuesday. (Jayne Williams has a hysterical description of what she calls Post Race Stupidity Syndrome, or PRSS--my friends and I call it "moosiness" or "moosey" because basically you just want to sit around and chew vacantly, like a moose. )

I got shut out of my half-marathon this Sunday, but I'm pulling every string I've got to try to get in. I just didn't have the dough to sign up until today, and of course (thank you, Murphy!) today all the races closed. I won't cry if I don't get in--the universe has a way of righting itself. I'm barely back on my feet, I still have a cough, and there's a wonderful group ride with a bunch of BTers the day before, so ... win-win.

Hi everyone,

I know Erin already read my blog and left nice comments....but I thought I'd let you all know I wrote a book in there about the meaning of this day in my life.  I am sort of down and blue, so I could use a few more inspires!    Not to be pushy....but thought I'd let you know!!

I am taking the day off and hopefully getting a massage.

CONGRATULATIONS SHAWN!!!  THAT'S FABULOUS!  BTW...did you see that I finished the challenge.

I have a race this weekend.  It's just a 5K, but I am REALLY determined to get under 30 minutes this time.  That was my goal last time and I finished at 30:44.   I have REALLY improved since then, so it shouldn't be very hard, but you never know.  I am secretly hoping to finish around 28 minutes.

That sounds like a fabulous plan, Leslie.

Laura, good luck with the 5k -- it's going to be so exciting to race with all the improvements you've made. We're going to want a race report right away.

Yanti, sucks about the half, but I'm totally jealous of your possible BT ride, so whatever, NO SYMPATHY FROM ME. As per usual. *g*

I'm impressed with you guys racing this Sunday. I will be hosting a small Super Bowl party for girls, during which we will watch very little football and eat A LOT of really disgusting food. Yay! I actually arranged my training schedule so I could take the day off and get extra fat. Hee.

What's everyone got planned for today? I've got another hour on the stationary bike and a swim -- either an hour or 30 minutes, depending on how long I want to be at the gym.
