Champion 5522![]() ![]() Frisco, TX | Subject: RE: SWBKRUN Mentor Group-"Off Season?" What is that?!!OK bike guru's I need help... I noticed a couple of odd things last night on my CT.. I was doing a 24 mile against the computer (btw - the Nintendo's grahics are really funny...) According to the CT - my mph was right at 17 and my avg watts was like 163 over about 1:24. Odd thing number one - my Cateye speed/cadence sensor was reading an average of about 0.5 mph faster than the CT - is that normal? Which one is right? Odd thing number two - I noticed that I could change my pedal rythm (felt more circular if that make sense) and maintain the same speed while dropping the watt output by about 20 watts. Is that pedalling efficiency or a CT quirk or something... |

It should be 3-3.5, enter that number using the key pad. Do it again. Enter the number using the key pad. If it is similar you can keep going. If it is lower than 3.0 or not similar, get off and tighten the tension. 2. Spin easy for 8 mins. Test the CT warm. It should be between 2.5-3.0. Enter that number in the key pad. Spin 2 more minutes if it is close to your earlier number, enter it in the key pad and you are good to go. If not, get off and loosen or tighten the tension and do it again. I found when I did that, my Garmin and CT were nearly identical. Either way, the CT is the gold standard to me. |

LOL, very lazy so I just use my race/ride wheel which has a PR3 on it and for whatever reason with those on my calibration # never goes above 2, always below. If I put another tire on it goes back above 2 where it should be. Caibration shouldn't effect your MPH comparison between the bike computer and the CT. Calibration should make your watts come more into line with an external power meter. If you are sure your bike computer is set up correctly, i.e. you entered the right number in the wheel circumference, your bike computer should be the gold standard. |

My bike stays in the CT, I just pump the tire back up to 120psi every time I get on. I would think the calibration would be the same... To answer Tony - I'm lazy too - however, I don't have different wheels, so the decision becomes somewhat easier - that and my tires are relatively inexpensive continentals... |

Really from what I read its supposed to be ridden for like 30 mins to get a true calibration, but who wants to do that. I use my power meter so I get the numbers from there, that being said my powertap and CT are pretty close even with my wacky calibration numbers on my PR3's |

Not sure when they are going to open up the new Mentor program, They are probably getting the new mentors set up now. We are still active from the last one and this thread will go by-by into the archives and a new one created. That being said the group is always open so come on in and just move over to the new thread with us when it gets started, make sure you post your info so we all know what kind of experience you have, goals, races, etc. |

Mine only cost $45 and I would think that would be worth it if you are in pain. And by the way, be careful what you say about supporting your beloved Texas Longhorns. Texas better find some offense for Alabama - I'm predicting the Tide laying an a** kickin down. If the Nebraska's kicker keeps that last kick-off in bounds the Tide is playing Cincinnati. |

Doug Yeah I had the same issue - if your pump can do both presta and schrader, the head of the pump is too big; and the 'locked' position on my pump was for the lever to be Up. The air compressor that I had only went up to 115 psi. So an alternative option is to get the presta/schrader adaptor, put it on the valve stem and then use the floor pump's schrader hole. |
