Thanks Chris!  I was trying to get at the fact that when I look at people's logs, there is a lot of negativity and I wish there was more positivity.  Some Manatees seem get bogged down by negative thinking and negative self talk.  (And yes, sometimes it's just to commiserate or kind of joking around.  I recognize that too!)  I don't think that this negative thinking/self talk benefits training in any way.  I posted some articles and an MP3 in the Google+ area for those who might be interested.

We spend so much time training our bodies, why not make a tiny effort to train our minds?

That's pretty cool. Too bad there were so many negative comments from others.

Good day all, I hope all is well with everyone. A quick shout out to a bunch of you:

Monica, congrats on the Betty designation. I am soooo happy that you made the decision to go for it. And I love the new sig line!

TJ and Felicia, Congrats on finding the time to meet up, how cool is that? I know your schedules were probably quite full, so finding the time is pretty cool stuff.

Kate, I hope that everything goes as well as it possibly can for your mom. Your family is in my prayers. And congrats on the changes in schedule for you, you've earned it, do NOT feel anything other than proud.

Ann-Marie, I hope that people start to listen at work and that your young man is A-OK.

Stacey, Enjoy the races, even if you don't race them.

Switch, I hope your ankle responds well and you return to your normal hard running self. Your logs being empty hurts me just a little bit, I'm sure it hurts you a lot more. Heal up, buddy.  BTW, After seeing your race photos, I think you can pull off any race outfit you want, even gnomes and unicorns.

Kirsten, I love your new friend Trevor. What a great looking fella he is.

Ben, Awesome job at Branson.

Tom, nice ride out in the country, congrats on a good day, even if the cold was no fun.

Jo, I hope the arm keeps healing and you keep smiling,

Chris - very well said, and for many reasons - thank you.

You were the one who encouraged me to throw my hat into the ring in the first place, and without that, I never really would have considered it.

I recently read something about changing your breathing pattern to get the side stitch to calm down.  blah blah blah diaphram blah blah.

Anyway, it's good that most races are in the morning!

yeah, I've read that too - but I think it's lower than a "stitch" - and I'm baffled that it only happens in the afternoon - and pretty much right out of the gate. oh well. ok everyone stop posting so I can get some work done

Kind of bizarre that it only happens in the afternoon... are you leaving enough time after eating to let things digest?  Or do you think it's a specific food that's causing the discomfort?

Or you could always just not run in the afternoon.  (see how helpful I can be??? )

Lol - I actually didn't read the comments - there are soooo many internet idiots that I generally end up just shaking my head at the stupidity and meanness whenever I read the comments on a story.  I'm just HUGELY impressed with what she was able to accomplish without even really trying.

Can you imagine... missing the turnoff and then just deciding to finish a marathon?  I WISH I could run like that!

I was thinking one of those two things as well, and think about how much you've been eating throughout the day. I need more time if say lunch was bigger or someone brought things in to eat.

I think maybe it's a timing thing. I'm also trying to stand more at work - I'm think it happens on days I SIT - I need to start logging the days to look for a pattern. I know yesterday I wasn't particularly hungry but I housed a cliff bar at 4 - and was on the trail by 5:30. I usually give food 2 hours. Maybe the cliff bar was too much. My lunch is generally leftovers from the night before plus a salad. So yesterday was sammin (salmon) and rice around 12:30. I think I had a handful of Trader Joe's sesame almonds before 4 too. That's really it.

Someone suggested that maybe it's small intestine related.....um I could up my fiber intake and see where that goes...............

When I run in the am I don't eat first (bad, I know but I'm not usually running more than an hour anyway). I do have a glass of water before I leave the house and I always carry water with me - even on short runs. For now I'll just stick to running in the mornings - good suggestion Betty.

I was curious and looked at the comments. I don't see people trying to discredit her (lots of respect all around, really), but rather good points brought up in what to do with her feat. There are some good thoughts about this being a competitive endeavor.

I don't know the true reason but I suspect it may have to do with either construction or road closures because FB mentioned something about working with Howard County police on the revised route.  7 miles less means automatic PR, LOL!  But seriously, I'm looking forward to a great weekend with the Team Fight gang and having a good race.  The TF luncheon Sat. and overall presence at the race is so moving: survivor wave; survivors wishing us luck as we head out on the swim; the dedication circle; knowing that this race is more than just another race; seeing the survivors out on the course showing cancer who is boss.  Really good stuff.

Ooooh! So 'cited for you! It will be awesome!

I generally don't eat before my morning run either. It teaches your body to use the stored energy. I should probably be better about doing a gel or something on my longer runs though. I wonder if part of my sufferfest for the last 3 miles of my 10.5 on Sunday was lack of nutrition.

Soooooo the insanity at my house...

Saturday afternoon, post race and after I'd finished planning meals for the week and done the grocery shopping, I get a call from my Dad that he and the GF are coming down Thursday (today). Ok, good to see them, gotta figure out how to feed two extra tummy's for the weekend.

Then Tuesday, while I'm in a terrible cell phone reception area, I get a cryptic message from DS2 about coming to stay with us "for a while". I say of course and don't think much of it. On my way to meet Felicia I get more of the story, he will be here Wednesday. Okaaaaay. Another tummy to feed for the weekend. Of course, I love having them there and the only issue, in my mind, is meal planning.

Then on my way home from meeting Felicia I get another message that DS2 is broken down with mechanical issues on his motorcycle. Wunnerfull. $250 and a couple hours later he's on the road again. I hear from him at 2am that his muffler fell off and at 3am that he made it to the hotel. I did NOT get much sleep Tuesday night. He finally made it to the house yesterday evening. Now I just have to hear from Dad! INSANITY!!!!!!!!!!

Oh, and to add to the confusion of meal planning (I'm kinda OCD about that, can ya tell?) I had to re-arrange meals so that I could do bigger meals when the house is full. The problem with this is that DH is on a "special" diet this weekend for a colonoscopy on Monday and I'd planned the meals to accomodate that. AAAAND I've got to figure out how to fit in my s/b/r. I'll figure it all out and I LOVE seeing DS2 and my Dad. Just venting. Thankyouverymuch.

Maybe on the Cliff bar. They're heavier and tend to sit in the gut for me. I like them, but can't use them just before or during a workout. If I have something like pizza at lunch, then pretty much forget it unless running well after work.

Running beforehand could help tell you if it's something like that. Hopefully more thoughts come to mind later. I haven't run at all in several weeks!

SO happy that DS2 is okay.  Being a motorcycle rider, I know first hand what it's like to be broken down on the side of a road.

As for the "special" diet for your DH, I've gone through that one too... twice.  Just be sure he's close to the loo at all times after having the stuff that will... um... 'clean him out'.  After the colonoscopy is interesting too, they put you in a recovery room with a bunch of other people that have had the same thing and give you strict instructions to just keep farting.  It's a very musical room.

Funny! I think the boys and I are going to leave him alone Sunday afternoon and do a cycling awareness ride. He is also doing an ondoscopy and getting some stuff cleaned out of his upper GI. I took the day off to drive him because, I guess, they are going to knock him out.

At the very least, he should be under heavy sedation.  No one should have to go through the azz-cam wide awake!

It's possible. Nutrition for runs like that is something I'm looking more into as well. In looking at yours specifically, this was a rather big run for the amount you've been doing, so it's likely to be tough either way. I also look at how long I expect to be out there vs the distance. I would take something for a run that lasts 1:55, but not likely for 1:15-1:20. Maybe some water if it's really hot.

Yeah, there was a lot at play. I am increasing my distance faster than I normally would because I had a few unplanned weeks off and a HM in 3 weeks. I think I did drink enough water but not absolutely sure on that. Another factor was possibly worn out shoes. Hard to tell. Not sure how many factors to change for my LSR this weekend.

Oh, Clif Bar made me remember that I tried one on a ride the other day and it was a total fail. Those suckers are dense and I can't have them during anything training related.

I need to go back and comment on things, and I will, but I just thought this was really, really cool for anyone who hasn't seen it.   A woman who went out to race a HM ends up winning the marathon...

http://blogs.windsorstar.com/2013/09/23/marathon-win-a-surprise/

That's pretty cool. Too bad there were so many negative comments from others.

I was curious and looked at the comments. I don't see people trying to discredit her (lots of respect all around, really), but rather good points brought up in what to do with her feat. There are some good thoughts about this being a competitive endeavor.

I agree that most of the comments were positive or constructive, but ones like "congrats on your undeserved first place" strike me as nothing but snarky.

Oh yeah, ones like that directed at her are uncalled for. It was the race directors decision. But saw others not agreeing with the RD's decision to award her the win as still being constructive. If she had a blog and the they sought her out there, then that would also be uncalled for. I don't know what the right call is, but still think what she did was quite impressive either way. No way I'd actually run a full marathon in that fashion after pacing so far for a half.

Chris - very well said, and for many reasons - thank you.

You were the one who encouraged me to throw my hat into the ring in the first place, and without that, I never really would have considered it.

You're welcome. Put in a good word for me, I may throw my hat into the ring next year in the old man category, if she'll have me.

Originally posted by nancylee Hi, Laughing at those bathing suits - are they really for men? I have a trail race this weekend - my crazy sister who is one of the best Masters runners in her state is coming up to do it, and dragging me along. It is a 5K and supposedly rugged and tough. She will do about 21 minutes, I will do about 45!! I was adopted, and we obviously don't share the same genes!!! Hope you all have a great day! It is amazingly beautiful here in NY! Nancy

Damnit people, I have work to do.  And now you're "forcing" me to look at the men's bikinis.  What would you people do without me?

Oh... you mean these (they have a non sparkly version, but really, why would you not go all the way at this point)

Any man who would rock this one, I would buy at least a beer for post-race:

In white?  Bwahahaha!

And there's a song to go with this one:

OMG, I saw these earlier, HYSTERICAL.  Cannot imagine keeping a straight face while sharing a lane with someone sporting any of these suits!

We may need to get these for Chris when we starts Masters!

Compress This!

No one wants to see that, trust me on this.
