My new wetsuit was delivered this morning: Blue Seventy Energie (2007 closeout). Even though I was late for work I HAD to open up the package. Feels much lighter and thinner than the Pro-Motion. I have an opportunity to do OWS on Sunday mornings in June with the local tri club. I'm planning to go this Sunday to try out the suit and get more OWS practice.

I'm planning a 50 mile ride for Saturday, my last training ride before the metric century on June 8. Hopefully I can figure out my saddle/shorts issue!

I ended up:

Overall: 171/234
Female: 45/86
AG: 4/6

The best run of my life at that distance and still MOP/BOP. Scary fast group of runners!

I've got some pictures in my blog and a few more in an album.

mac3116 - 2008-05-26 8:02 PM Great job on your race Slug ! glad to hear ya got one more OWS in Tracy they sure do help ! i was not that lucky i never made it to the beach before FL . i didnt have a problem but i sure as hell would have suffered with one if i would have been looking at the temps. you are . but i do here the water is really clear ! i sure hope i dont say that and its not sorry if it is . im not to sure about them boots i think it would be odd

water is really clear here Shaun of course it's also really cold. There is a lake about 40minutes from me that you can see the bottom even at a depth of about 30 feet. It's really cool, but never gets above about 65 degrees and is usually much colder.

So what's on schedule for everyone? I'm heading to the gym for a swim and then hitting the road for Grand Coulee until Thursday. I'm going to stop in Spokane along the way at my favorite sushi place for my bday dinner. Turning 38 today, and I feel better than I did at 28! woohoo!!!!

Happy Birthday!!!!  Yum!  Sushi!!!!

As for the rocks in the lake.  Just deal with it till you get into the water.  No more great advice on that one.  Sorry.

You are lucky to be able to swim with a tri group!   Is the new wetsuit a full one?

I've never done anything with this group, but I've been thinking about checking them out. If I like the people I'll look into joining.

Yes, full wetsuit.

I bought swim booties before my April tri. They call them neoprene, but they weren't anything like wetsuit neoprene so they probably didn't add much warmth, but they definitely made it nicer for walking around and getting into and out of the water. They were quick to remove and kept my feet clean. I was told that some other people got cuts on their feet but I was good. My swim this Sunday will start from a nice sandy beach but I might try them out again anyway. Also thinking about using them for my pool tri.

when i ran the OLY in miami there was some rocks and what they did was had some of the people clear them out . i mean they didnt get them all but they did a good job better than nothing . anyways what i did was once i got knee deep dove in and started to do the dolphin dive about three times till it got to deep to touch . maybe that would work out or you could try it and see what ya think

I got out and did a 50 mile ride today. It was my last training ride for my metric century next Sunday. I got rained on for 20 of the 50 miles but it was actually a good ride. I used the saddle from my race bike, stood on the pedals frequently, stopped every 10-12 miles, and slathered on chamois Buttr at the pee breaks and it worked out pretty well. Between the strong winds I fought the last several weeks and the rain today I feel like there's little else the ride next week can throw at me.

Hey everyone!!!  I'm finally home!!!  Here is a quick race update until I can get my RR up.

The swim SUCKED!!!!  The bike went just as I had hoped!!!  The run was a little slow but I wasted a lot of energy on that stupid swim!

Total time=7:25:20.  At least I have lots of room for improvement for my next HIM!!!  Cheers!!!  I'll catch up with ya later!

I did my metric century today!!! It was hard. Lots of climbing (felt like the entire 63 miles was uphill), hot, saddle issues. I averaged a little over 14mph overall. The entire ride took nearly 6 hours. So far I've raised $1,715 (I've raised something like $5500 over the three years I've done the Tour). Is there a full century in my future? Highly unlikely! I can't imagine riding an additional 2+ hours! I think I know my limit!

Don't count it out, Nicole.  The hot weather was probably harder on you than you anticipated.  Did you have fun?

I enjoyed meeting the people, I enjoyed the scenery, I enjoyed raising the money, and I enjoyed setting a PB for distance. I suffered from the seat discomfort and its associated toe numbness. If I could solve those I could imagine riding further, otherwise, no.

I haven't had a good run since my race on Memorial Day. My legs feel dead. I've cut back on the distance and the intensity. What do I need to do to get my stride back?!?

I looked at your logs over the past month.  I think you need to work on negative splits.  Your last two laps are almost always slower than your first two.  Flip it around.  You could also sprinkle in some fartleks during the second half of your run.  This would give you a bit of speed work.

Your legs are probably still tired from your ride, too.  How is that new wetsuit working out?

I've heard of fartleks but I'm not sure exactly what it is. How would I apply fartleks into my training?

I haven't done a swim in the new wetsuit (I overslept and missed the OWS on the 1st). I'll get out for an OWS this Sunday.

Fartleks are, literlally, speed play.  You run faster for a short period of time between a couple of telephone poles or to the end of a block or between firehydrants (if you are running with your dog).  The amount of time is of no concern.  Simply run at a faster pace.  Make sense?  Cheers!

i think that running by "feel" works better than worring about what the clock says. the only thing is you want to make sure you recover before taking off again or it will turn out to be a long speed workout
