Master 1678 Olney, MD | Subject: RE: LaurenSU02's group - CLOSED! Good morning guys!! I hope everyone has a great weekend! I'm doing a 10K tomorrow morning and I'm hoping for a PR. I think I have it in me and the course isn't as hilly as my first 10K. It's supposed to be HOT though. At least the race is at 8 AM. I wish I got to leave early today. Our office has a rotating early Friday schedule during the summer and we get to leave at 1:30. My group isn't the one that gets to leave early this week. booo!

Lauren, I have been reading your logs and I have 1 question, what is a power tap? She can add more detail..... But it's a power meter that replaces the rear hub of your bike. It gives data, the most important for training, is your power output. When you get to be a pro like laura , it's nice to know what kind of watts you are producing at certain rpm's, HR, pace, etc...... I would like to get one someday, but it's down on the list of priorities for me. New bike and race wheels come first. |

Expert 706 New Orleans | Subject: RE: LaurenSU02's group - CLOSED! Hey guys. Sorry I've been absent lately. School has been REALLY busy lately. We pretty much run from 6am to 6pm, then have assignments to work on after that. I'm trying to get in workouts when I can, but sometimes there's just literally not enough time. To top that off, we have wireless internet in the barracks, and it sucks. It works sometimes, but only for a minute or two at a time. I'm trying to browse the logs as I find time, but it looks like everyone is doing good keeping up with their training. That's so awesome! I hope you are all doing well and the training is going good. Keep it up, and I'll try and update my log when I can. Have a great weekend!!!! |

He was not gentle but he was easy on the muscles that worked hard during the race. He used to massage Lance Armstrong when his team toured through this area long ago and he was Mike Pigg's massage therapist during Pigg's pro years. I think I found a good one! I'm soooooo excited!!!!! |

Extreme Veteran 335 Toledo, Ohio | Subject: RE: LaurenSU02's group - CLOSED! Hey guys! Hope you had a great weekend, how did your races/training go? I did my "aquabike" HIM this weekend. The swim went great! The bike, however, kicked my butt. We had extreme wind and all open farmlands for the couse. I practice in wind all the time, but nothing as tough as this! Guess it was a good learning experience. |

Champion 6539 South Jersey | Subject: RE: LaurenSU02's group - CLOSED! Great job yesterday, Shiggy! No regrets about sticking to the plan. You did what you were supposed to do, which sometimes is more difficult to do than the race itself . My weekend was good, but HOT. I had a 5.5-hr brick yesterday. The run was short and brutal -- no shade, upper 90s, and humid. The ride wasn't too bad, except for the last hour when I was just feeling "blah." |

Master 1678 Olney, MD | Subject: RE: LaurenSU02's group - CLOSED! Hey guys!! Well I had my first experience racing in hotter temps on Saturday morning and I sucked. I couldn't imagine doing a 5.5 hour workout in that stuff! I also did my first OWS yesterday and it was a lot of fun. The wetsuit definitely allowed me to float in the water a lot more than I usually do. It didn't make me any faster though I just know that if I get tired and need to take a break, I can bob up and down in the water for a bit without much effort.

Extreme Veteran 335 Toledo, Ohio | Subject: RE: LaurenSU02's group - CLOSED! Thanks Lauren, you are very right, dropping out of the race was not as easy as I thought it would be. Traci, I'm sure everyone's times suffered because of the conditions. Looks to me like you did a great job pushing through less than ideal race conditions even if you didn't get your PR this time. Learning how to race through heat is not easy, especially for running. Maybe you can sign up for another 10K and try again? |

I bet it did make you faster - but you may not have noticed it. In my case, I can do time trials in the pool at about 1:30-1:35 per 100. But with a wetsuit, it's about 1:20-1:30. In open water with a suit, it's about 1:35 as well. I just think OWS is slower (due to the lack of pushing off the walls and calmer water, so if I didn't wear the suit, I would be doing something like 1:45/100 I think.... Could just be me... |

Sensei Sin City | Subject: RE: LaurenSU02's group - CLOSED! I just want to add about the heat - it sucks. For me, as well as taxing the body and making things harder, it also taxes the spirit/mind. Long bikes and runs really test the limits of the mind more than the body sometimes.... Hence my fear of tackling long race training in the desert here..... I have found that getting out early (like 6am) helps a little. Then you can be back by 11 or noon and miss the worst of the heat. |

Maybe you can sign up for another 10K and try again? Yeah I'll be shooting for PRs during fall and winter races from now on. I run my best in those temps. I also didn't treat my body the best the night before and played a tennis match. Oh well. I'm not so disappointed about missing the PR, I was just bummed about how slow I was out there. Awesome job with the S/B this weekend!! It sounds like those winds were brutal!

I should have timed my wetsuit swim to see if it helps out! I'll have a chance to get out there again this weekend so maybe I'll do some time trials. I was thrilled about how buoyant it made me. Usually I sink pretty quickly in the water |

Austin, Texas or Jupiter, Florida | Subject: RE: LaurenSU02's group - CLOSED! Hey everyone! I'm back from Texas! I did run the tri yesterday even though I spent a week slacking on my training and cooking in the heat and wind. I kicked- in the swim. I beat all the other clydes out of the water and actually caught 1/3 of the women's wave which started 5 min ahead of us. Lesson learned though, don't wear your timing chip on your wrist. It doesn't record as you run/ride over the timing strips. Even with that, I did really great. The board says a clyde beat me although I didn't see any clydes passing me after I got out of the water and since I finished first in the swim, he must've beaten me in the TA or something. Sad thing though. Some guy had a heart attack and drowned during the swim. I heard about it after the race, but he apparently kept refusing the guard's help and then just went under. You know it's a freak thing since the ride and bike I think account for more medical responses (heat exhaustion/heat stroke, etc.). Great job on your HIM Tracy, Great job on the aquabike Shiggy. I wish I could've skipped the run since I did so well on the bike and swim yesterday. Oh well, it wasn't meant to be... |
