Won't be in jeopardy of beating anyone this month. Adding in some workouts from the last 10 days. Been running with greater consistency over multiple days. Ran a sub 8/min pace for 6 miles for the first time in I don't now how long. Still can't get on a bike, but the pain in my butt seems to be getting better. Time to get in the pool again.

On a side note, since the body remains partially broken and needs time to heal, I have enrolled in an intensive mindful meditation class over the next 8 weeks to work on my mind and well being. I am committing to 30 minutes of meditation every day and 3 hr. classes on Sundays. The training is fairly intense and it will be interesting to see how this meshes with long distance training. Learning to calm your mind is really tough.

Anyone here have any experience with meditation?

Sam, some tris have a mountain bike division and also a fat tire division.

Joe, let me know how meditation works for you. I have a hard time clearing my mind. That's why I swim, bike and run

I have tried on and off and given up due to frustration, but recently my therapist told me a few key things that were an ahah moment and since then I have found it 'easier' but still a challenge! But I would like to know how this pertains to endurance sports - I read on ST that someone uses it for their long workouts but I just don't see how; awaiting your feedback, grasshopper :-)

adding short run yesterday and long today - both were under MAF and felt great too! the long run today was meant to be 2 hrs but I didn't want to run 2 mins; anyways one step after another I managed to get to 1:40 and felt good about that feeling - great reminder come race day!

Brick session. 22 mile ride, 2.3 mile run. 4 minute transition. Just under 2 hours.

Snuck in a 30minute swim session right before the pool closed. I no longer think I'll drown on Sunday.

Hola, hope everyone here is doing well and getting lots of good workouts done!  I am finally back from my China trip which was very productive and interesting.  Unfortunately I was only able to manage 1 fun run in Beijing through Tinanmen Sq. and the Forbidden City and then got stuck in long work days and hit by a strong cold. I spent most of my days in a Business Summit in the City of Changsha (Hunnan Province) and its claim to fame for the province is being the Birthplace of Mao and also the place where they filmed parts of Avatar (where the dragons live in those tall rock formations).  Very happy to be back in the western world and not have to guess anymore what we are being served to eat...

7 mile run today and I was dying.  My HR was up to 170 and I was going at an easy pace, still dealing with the China effect

Picked up an H2O audio Ipod Shuffle waterproof case earlier this week from Amazon for $65. Best money spent for swimming to date. When you swim as slow as I do it helps to have little Bassnectar in your ear to give me some pep in my swim!!!

long 30 min non stop swim - felt easy and perfect for first 60 laps at RPE of 4, then had to focus on the last 12.

theres something about swimming where I cant imagine listening to music ... maybe I need to try it.

Mark- I thought music might help break the mundane sounds of water sloshing around my ears on longer workouts. I've increased my OWS distances in preparation for my first OLY next year and man that's a lot of time in the water alone with just your thoughts. If I'm left alone with my thoughts that long they will usually gravitate towards work and that ends up messing up my work out! Two weeks ago I swam my longest OWS and it was over 40' long and I sure was wishing I had something to distract my thoughts for that length of time.

Adding todays swim and strength work out.

Snuck in a fast 30 minute swim on my way home from work to get some time swimming in the wetsuit I rented for my race sunday. Fits exactly like the books say it should (I think). Felt good and easy to swim in. Taking the day off tomorrow to be rested. Planning on going to race site for OWS Saturday morning. I'm really trying to heed the advise that I've received. I'm getting excited.

Sam- These next two days are going to go by painfully slow. You will get that I'm going to Disneyland feeling and will have trouble focusing on anything else. Get sleep tonight, because you will not sleep tomorrow. Go through you gear and pack it tomorrow (you will forget something if you wait until race day), figure out your transition layout and try to relax (ha ha). Trust the training you have done is enough for you to do the race, nothing you do at this point will improve your time. It is a good idea to swim a little tomorrow in the wetsuit on the course. That is a confidence thing, and will make race day a little easier. Have fun. We are all excited for you.

X2! I was super freakin nervous until I swam the clinic the weekend before the race and it made all the difference in the world. The time they allowed us I was able to swim it twice(500Meters) and on race day I knew I could finish with ease. Swimming on Saturday will definitely help you relax and sleep a little better the night before the race. Good luck and have fun!!

Updating for last few days. Wed - ran. Thurs - ran. This morning - ran. In a run heavy phase for a few weeks until the Half Marathon on Oct. 19th. I have to fit in some tough interval bike workouts due to a CA trip in late October when I'm going to get to bike some real climbs. Can't wait!

Dennis - I hear you about work thoughts; fortunately for me I have always been able to switch off (maybe the mindfulness is working!) but great work on the swimming improvement!!

Sam - x3 on get in the water prior to race - I used to get nervous and hyperventilate - now I splash my face/chest/arms, bounce in/out the water and blow bubbles prior to the swim or warm up - yes It looks as stupid as it sounds but it clams me and my breathing down.

adding a bike from today; one of my best feeling rides yet and at 50 miles is a great confidence boost come race=4wks. Rode the same course 5wks back and felt awful last 20 miles - definitely an improvement and moral booster today.

Adding in 3 runs and 1 swim this week. Been so crazy that I have taken to running at night after work. Really don't like it, but it will have to do. Ran for a total of 20 miles this week with very limited discomfort. Still can't get on a bike, but am thinking about 8-10 mile ride tomorrow followed by a 3 hour meditation class. Will be curious to see if I sit that long without falling asleep.

As there has been some discussion about pre- race swims, I am in the other camp. Never like to pre-swim the day of - always had bad results and am superstitious. I do like swimming the day before on the course as races permit.
