boryloco - 2009-10-13 6:38 PM Of course 3 weeks prior to the race I get hurt. Anyone have success dealing with runner's knee? I would hate to not run between now and the race. Thinking of using kinesio tape, but open to suggestions.

ART- Active Release Therapy.

Runners knee could mean almost anything....Patellofemoral syndrome?  IT band pain? Patella tendinitis?   Knee pain you can't identify??????

Patella Femoral Syndrome?  That is what I was diagnosed with last week!

It feels like my knee is a rusty hinge when I run.  I have never had knee problems before and now this so close to the race.

My sports med doc has me on Voltraren anti inflamatory cream and pills, some days it works and some days not.  Also has me doing PT to strengthen the VMO or inner quad muscle as she feels that it is muscular imbalance that is causing the knee cap to misalign and rub.  I talked to a good sports med chiro last weekend at a race and he did say that he has had success with Kineso taping.  It has to be better than the stap brace that she gave me to wear as soon as I start sweating it slides out of place.

Any other ideas or experience I would love to hear too.

Say it with me, FOAM ROLLER!  It will hurt like hell while you are doing it, but it works wonders.  For a mere $20 you can have a poor man's massage or ART session in your living room while you are watching TV.

Reading the Forum lets me know that I am not the only one who is just exhausted from all the training and so ready for taper!! Try to explain it to someone who is not training for an Ironman and they just don't get it!!

She is so right. I have a foam roller. I use it on both IT bands. It stands silently in the corner of the den just waiting to whoop a hurtin' on ya. But it really works. But you can say "hurts like hell" a few octaves higher and whole lotta decibels louder!!

23 Days 23 Hours and 33 Minutes....

And another day on the trainerCry  This rain is getting ridiculous.  I love the fact that I am spending the last two months of training inside.  Oh well, not too much longer now.Laughing

IM first timer too!  Good luck to all on the home stretch!  And yes Brittany.... ready for the training to end and the racing to start... a much needed 'off season' break will be a good reward (Oh yeah, and the finisher's medal too, lol!)...

Another day on the trainer for me as well. Got a Century ride for Breast Cancer on Saturday, hoping the forecast is correct as it is suppose to be nice. Follow that up with a 20 mile run on Sunday, then it is one more hard week then time to taper.

Just ready to get down there and get a swim in the ocean on Wednesday to get the fear of the ocean out of my system.

Raced a sprint tri on Sunday followed by an 85 mile bike.  Long run this week and then heading to Bermuda for the 'Round the Sound Swim' I'm doing the 4k.  http://www.aquamoonadventures.com/page2.html No wetsuit though

Planning one last big volume week next week and then a 2 week taper.

Come on Nov 7th!
