LazyMarathoner - 2009-05-15 8:51 AM Hi ladies. I have a non swim related question and since this is a forum for girls, I'm hoping for a little advice. I've been searching for a new saddle. I have the Terry Damselfly and it's about as pleasant as riding on a rock. I have a century on Sunday so I'm really wanting to switch it out to spare myself some pain. In the shortness of time and availability, I have a choice of : Adamo, Profile Tri Stryke, Fizik Vitesse. The LBS says Adamo, and a lot of BTers here too, but it's very wide, even in the "nose" and I have problems with wide saddles. Plus I hear it takes awhile to acclimate so a Century sunday may not be ideal.

I don't mind the firmness overall of the Damselfly, it's just not a good saddle in general. I think a bit more padding would be nice, but not all the way to squishy. I'll likely have this one as an interim and find my permanent saddle after the century.

So for the future search, I'm thinking the Blackwell Flow or the V Flow. Anyone have experience with any of these at all? Thanks!

I really wouldn't advise doing a century on a saddle you've never ridden. Instead of switching the saddle right now can you use shorts with more padding (although I also don't recommend trying that for the first time on a century either)? I have a metric century coming up in June and will be trying out some different saddle/shorts combos over the next few weekends.

I have to agree, i wouldn't take on a new saddle for a C-ride. I have a Serfas saddle. It's my second one and I got it shortly after I bought my bike last year. I haven't tried it but some of my friends swear by the chamois butter. FWIW. Good luck in your ride.

cant make a comment about the saddle, but i can SWEAR BY the chamois butter.

42 miles + chamois butter = a VERY comfortable bottom.

the same exact saddle in the same exact position, same exact bike shorts....

13.5 miles - chamois butter = a VERY uncomfortable bottom.  felt like i was sitting on rocks....

might be worth a try (if you havent been in the habit of using it....

stacieb

I was informed of "Assos" - it's supposed to be some pretty good schtuff.

http://www.excelsports.com/new.asp?page=8&major=3&minor=10&description=Chamois+Creme&vendorCode=ASSOS

As a women I highly don't recommend Assos riding. It has a tingling menthol type feeling that is quite unpleasant on a women's private parts while bike riding.

I think Chamois Butter has a touch of menthol too. I don't know why the heck they put that in there!

I got the Tri Stryke and it's on the bike. I only got to ride it for about 10 minutes. The good news is that it has a similar shape as my old saddle and that was one of the few things I liked. It's more comfortable for sure, but we'll see how it works on the long rides.

I usede to use Chamois Butt'r but I've started using something fairly new called Beljum Budder. It seems to work as well.

Good luck with the saddle! I was gonna say stay AWAY from the Fizik. My P2C came with a Fizik Arione and I spent exactly 45 mins on it.....I was raw.....I think there was blood...I kid you not........
I have a Selle Italia now....not sure which model. I rode for 4 1/2 hours on Mommy's day and it was as comfy as my couch. Zero discomfort!

Yeah, sure you are.  Multi tasking for you is breathing while you're swimming.  It's ok to admit that we're better than you, we won't mind.

Hey Gals,

Finished my first tri today! It was great. Not that I had my best performances, just Ok in the swim, much better on the bike and decent on the run, plenty to improve upon! Always!! I learned a lot and can't wait to do another! There were 350 racers, so it was a full race and that made it even more fun, and oh yea, I got 3rd in my age group! Hardware!

Waiting for final results before I do the race report.

Have a great weekend!
