Good luck on the races everyone. I really wish I were out racing this weekend

I have managed to find a local half marathon and a 5k to sign up for, but I just haven't done it yet.

Glad you're surviving out there!  The weather is looking to be slightly cooler than normal for August, so it should be a good race.

Heal up!

cornfed - 2011-08-26 7:33 AMGood luck everyone!  People are still freaked out from the earthquake and this hurricane isn't helping anything so I'll just hoping to get in my workouts in this weekend!
Getting hammered pretty good here in NC. Still have power though. Gonna hop on the trainer. That earthquake was freaky.

Hope all is well over there.  Looks like the hurricane is pretty mild.  New Orleaneans are laughing at the hysteria over a cat 1.

Anyway, race is tomorrow morning.  The swim, at least, should go well.  Managed a 20:03 1500yd TT as a race warmup.  Given how little I've swum I'm pretty happy with that.

Hope y'all up the east coast are doing okay.

Well, another one in the books, but unfortunatly no official finish.  I had to DQ myself after the race, because I realized I cut the swim course short.  Unless, I amazingly got faster than Sands this past week.

The sun was glaring pretty good and I was trying to nail the swim.  I was sighting what I thought was the far buoy, but it must have been the 2nd buoy instead of the third for the turn.  I must have cut it short by about 400 meters (by my best guess).

Other than that, I had a great race.  Bike went really well, averaged almost 21mph over the 25 miles.  Ran a 10k PR.  So, overall, not a bad day and learned some things.

Had I gotten the swim done, I probably would have been about 7th in my age group, which would have been excellent.  I was on pace to do about 2:45 total, which would have been a PR.  Oh well, time to move on.  Once I get my actual splits, I'll put up an official race report.

That's awesome (aside from the swim mix-up).  You've made some serious improvements this year!!

WOW. That is awesome!

Jason, you have come a long way in making progress! To get 21 on the ride and a 10k PR is HUGE!!

Keep up the great success man, that's awesome. I'm looking forward to seeing it in person when I get back!

Nice job but tough luck on the swim.  Congrats on the 10k PR and good bike, that's great news!

I can feel your pain regarding the buoys, my race had tiny buoys that were really hard to see.  I was close enough to a pack of swimmers ahead of me to sight off them and hope they knew where they were going.  Race report here.  My wife and I both snagged 3rd in our AG.  Turnout was low since it is it's first year.  There were familiar faces there but just less of them, only 99 AG racers.

Awesome, man.  Despite the swim issue you performed quite well.  Pretty much a mirror image of mine.

Awful, awful race on the whole.  Swim was great - put in a 25:30, which was good enough for 7th/~500 in the field.  Good enough to best all the oldsters except the race winner (who was an ex-Auburn swimmer). This also means Jason's 23 minutes would have put him 2nd in the field LOL - yeah Jason I think you cut the course. ;-)

Bike was horrible - I just couldn't hold the power I wanted.  After the race I found that my rear brake was slightly dragging.  Doh.  Not sure if it was during the ride as it probably only cost me 3 minutes over what I would have expected anyway.   (i.e. must have been dragging lightly to have that small of an effect).  In any case I was ready to be done with this race about 3 miles into the bike.  Felt pretty bad the whole way.

Run was even worse.  Had side stitches in both sides through about mile 4.  Just came in under 55 minutes for the run, which tells you how bad I did here (open 10k is 43min or so).  To top it off I ended up at 2:30:34 and just missed breaking that benchmark.  Really had no fun once I got out of the water here.

Ended up 7/39 in my AG.  Would have snagged 3rd in either 35-39 or 45-49.  I hate 40-44.

There is a time trial Thursday, which I am very excited about.  After that running season is approaching.  I evidently need the practice.

Oh snap!  I'm back!

Sorry, I've been MIA for the last 2 months.  I've been dealling with some health issues, and I've been too depressed to log on.

Let's see where to start.  I had my right shoulder scoped and the differene is night and day.  I also had a vein in my left calf closed.  No wonder my leg would always feel tight and heavy after biking.  I can thank my mothers side of the family for that little genetic gift.  I also got a chance to take care of some PF in my right foot.

It's safe to say my insurance deductable has been reached this year.

The doc said it was similar to a varicose vein.  My mother and sister have had similar issues.  Nothing looked abnormal with the vein.  It wasn't huge and protruding, like what you see on tv.  But the procedure made a huge difference.

Minor brag... I've been struggling with some motivation, and not waking up in the mornings. I've been putting off the morning run claiming I'll do it in the afternoon - low and behold something gets in the way... typical.

This morning I made myself go, and that was on the best feeling 7mi runs in a while. 2x (6x400m repeats w/ 1:30RI) plus warmup and cooldown. Yea, not bad.

And the ankle - felt GREAT! I feel like I'm on my way back, but now I'm in week 8 of 16 and I'm really starting to get scared...

Glad to hear this - you can't train if you are hurt.

Only thing I have to brag about is getting my second dog bite in a year yesterday.  Woohoo!  Big effing dog, too.  Luckily got me where I had fabric, so a decent sized welt, but nothing through the skin.  Called the cops on the beast.

Good job Sheep.  Glad to see your foot/ankle getting better.

Sands, good to know you were ok.  Did you get attacked on the bike?

You going to make it to the TT Thursday?

Got bit running.

I have the car packed for the TT.  I haven't touched the bike since the Oly, so I still have the disc cover on.  And I'm going to wear my one piece.  So I'm gonna look extra dorky tomorrow. ;-)

Sweet!!  I rode Tuesday, so I took the cover off.  Otherwise, I kept my race wheels on.  I might just ride with them through the HIM coming up.

I'm planning to be there, as long as I can get out to Liberty Park by 5:30.

How was everyone's August?

August's totals:
Bike:19h 36m 09s  - 349.37 Mi
Run:11h 52m 29s  - 68.15 Mi
Swim:4h 02m 50s  - 12650 Yd

I'm probably short on the swim distance and time, but I'm just not feeling the swim right now.

Run:6h 30m 41s  - 42.65 Mi

Not a great month for me as all 3 disiplines are down from July's totals. Hopefully September will go a bit better.

Not bad, not huge volume, either.  Two races in there, so lots of taper time and such.  In the future biking will take a hit and running will be well up.  I should be well over 100 miles running this month.

I feel you.  I hit it hard for 3 years.  I think taking 2 months away totally from the sport, even BT really helped me.  I'm back and motivated, I just need to figure out my goals for next year.
