![]() | ![]() Ya'll heard my work saga from Friday. Well in the irony of all ironys, yesterday my boss was so late that he missed the meeting completely. The very next day after scolding me like a child on the subject. When I left for the day yesterday he apologized and thanked me for being there on time when it was he who was late. I just smiled sweetly and said "no problem." But inside I was pointing and laughing like a madman. |

I think this is the easiest part of their job and expect my employees to be on time for their schedule start times, meeting and deadlines. There is ALWAYS the occassional "incident" or "exception" but if I see you are routinely late for things I will write you and start an exit strategy. With 50 employee, 5 minutes a piece it adds up and the overtime does too. |

With 50 employee, 5 minutes a piece it adds up and the overtime does too. We've always been quite the opposite here, which was the reason I was so surprised at the scolding. We (used to) operate on a very flexible schedule. You're 10 minutes late? You work 10 extra minutes. No tracking, clock-watching, monitoring, etc. We were even allowed to set our own hours, some people came in at 7, some people at 9, we all did our work well and as long as we were here within reasonable hours it was not given a second thought. The sudden culture change is what gets under my skin the most. Edited by lisac957 2012-07-24 9:26 AM |

![]() | ![]() Part of my scolding was that one day when he came into my office for some brief update (and mind you I was on a deadline that day to approve 80-90 items for a technical conference) I did not make adequate eye contact with him. Really? This is what it has come to. Eye contact. |

It was very painful for many, and like you, the rules changed over time and not in a structured fashion. But now it is just an expectation in which my hours are 9-5:30 and I am always here by 8:30 the lastest. |

You make a very valid point - the company won't love you back, but the people you work with/for can and will make a huge difference in how you feel about going to work every day. |
