Member 216 Haymarket, VA | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 and UHCoog's Mentor Group-Closed Okay, I'm sure this will spark some debate as opinions on bikes vary. Since it's going to take convincing the wife I'm starting to look towards next season and upgrading to a true tri bike. The shop that I do most of my stuff through is a Trek and Felt dealer. Another of the local shops also has Kestrel. My buddy swears by Cannondale or Cervelo. I'm looking at a <$3000 budget. In that range the ones I'm familiar with would be: Trek Speed Concepts 7.0 Cannondale Slice 5 105 Cervelo P2 Ultegra Felt B16 (maybe a B12 on sale) What else is out there, what do y'all ride, what do you recommend? I have to start working on her now so that the funds are freed up next year. |

I hope it heals quickly. Re bikes: I ride a Felt S22. I hoped I would fall in love with it as it was meant to be 'so customizable' for fit. I'm still waiting for the love part, but I think that's mostly saddle related. |

The felt just ended up working better. New Felt B series bikes aren't as long and low as they used to be. Cervelos are long and low. Treks are a moderate fit. And I'm not sure on the Cannondales. I'm not a fan of the Cannondale group offerings on their sub $3k bikes. P2s are always a good call if they fit. IMO Trek and Specialized have good offerings in the $2500-$3k range. I have a lot of friends that have issues with their B16s, specifically the cranks, but I know there are others that love them. |

Master 1832 Elgin, IL | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 and UHCoog's Mentor Group-Closed As Scott mentioned earlier, I have a Cervelo P2 and love it. Got about 1200 miles on it now since last fall. I was also fitted on a felt B12, similar to B16 and either would have worked so I went with price. Cervelo was a few hundred cheaper and 1 year newer model. Jen has the felt b16 ... Maybe she can weigh in. These are both good all around bikes |

The QR Seduza goes for the mid - $2,000s and I don't know that there's a better tri bike for the money -- http://www.trisports.com/quintana-roo-seduza-tri-bike.html |

Pro 4672 Nutmeg State | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 and UHCoog's Mentor Group-Closed Yes 35% plus the race although technically the race is the next week since I do Sun-Sat. Resting heart rate is normal. I was thinking part of it may be lack of time in the aero position this spring since the weather has sucked so bad I've been on the trainer more often than not. Just a theory with nothing scientific to back it up. I think you had a partial unload while at Disney and now your re-loading training stress and your body is just a bit confused. I wouldn't worry about it. The only thing I would make sure to do is keep the intensity fairly low during the taper and just add in a few short sets of race pace or above race pace intensity but nothing huge (e.g. 2 x 10 minutes at race pace). I really also like the use of over/unders during a taper. |

One of the reasons I picked it is that it was one of a few women-specific tri bikes in my price range and the only one that came in an itty-bitty stock frame (47). |

I'm off to Disney for over a week ... hoping to run a bit on my days off and learn to do flip turns while I'm playing with the kids in the pool. Otherwise - no training and lots of eating & drinking. My only goal is to come back relatively close to where I left. Training re-commences on June 10. |

Extreme Veteran 3020 | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 and UHCoog's Mentor Group-Closed Rest day for me. I get to spend it manning the Sharks and Sailors station at field day for 3 hours this morning. It should be fun standing around in the 90 degree heat and trying to get a bunch of hyped up second graders to follow my directions. Good times! It makes my son happy so that's why I'm doing it. Just found out my kids' swim team championship is the same weekend as the multisport festival. I am signed up for the olympic. This presents a challenge. I may have to figure out something else for that weekend. |

Larkin, do you have any recommendations for local fitters that would be good for this. I know if I use the fitters at Bike Lane, or Performance they're going to automatically push me towards one of the brands they sell instead of other potential options. |

Extreme Veteran 828 North Shore, MA. | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 and UHCoog's Mentor Group-Closed I am again looking for revenge on the last 2 long rides this weekend. I NEED a good long ride to keep my head in the game or I'll be a total basket case for LP. I am headed to Vermont for the weekend and hope to ride from the campground. This weekend there is no snow forecast, just 90's and thunderstorms (??!! wth) LP seemed like such a good idea at the time. It's starting to look like it may already be a death march for me. |

I'm SURE you'll be fine as long as you get out of your own head and have a solid plan going in. I'll be riding the course 6/22 and will be able to better speak to course specifics better then, but it seems to me that you're putting the work in and that coupled with a solid fueling plan should get you around the bike course even if it's slower than you envisioned. |

They will definitely push you towards one of those most likely. However, I think most shops around here are going to do that. I would call around, there is Spikes, Tri360(newer shop), Bike lane of course, and bicycle outfitters. Bike Outfitters has probably the bigger selection of brands so you may have better luck with them. I know one of the guys that works there and can ask him what he thinks might be best. Thanks for the input on the bikes gang. The key is to try and get your stack and reach measurements. Then you can play around here:

Another sprint tri for me this weekend. Should be a mostly flat bike and run course, but it will be my first openwater swim. A little nervous about the hustle and bustle of the crowd so we'll just have to see how it goes. Looking forward to giving the adjustments on the bike a full workout, only was able to take it out for a quick jaunt around the neighborhood last night. |

Do you wear there for certain distances? No for shorter, yes for longer? I don't wear socks on the bike or the run for up to an HIM. I would take the time for an IM. I generally do where them when I train but I haven't practiced without and know it won't cause blistering for me. I find socks a pain to get on and off but I wouldn't advise it unless to practice it. |
