I have been thinking about you but I didn't respond because I can easily do solid food on the bike but not so much on the run. Well, not in an open marathon at least When have done IM marathons I've had pretzels, flat cola, chicken broth, Clif Shot Blocks, peaches (at Vineman) -- basically what sounded good at the time. What have others had success with (when gels don't do it for you)? Fruit/fig bars are my new go to. |

But that's not my job anymore. Ha! It's the new one in Santa Fe on Cerrillos Rd. Funny, one of the things I looked for when I went in was recycle bins because of our discussion a while ago Oh, I just answered that for Elesa: he biggest recycling impact for a store is in the back of house. And that is something we (as in the company and specifically my team) complies with, especially for LEED (it's a prerequisite.) The front of house is a significantly lower impact. But the biggest reason for not always providing customers the opportunity to recycle is that all municipalities have different ways of managing their recycling streams (some commingle, some don't. Some combine plastic and aluminum, some don't) and it's (as of now) too difficult. The biggest issue seems to be properly educating people about what goes where. Often if something gets thrown into the wrong receptacle, the entire load cannot be recycled or even some municipalities reject it completely But I imagine this will all improve, especially as a more standard program is in place.

My goals are strength focused running then ramping into more endurance focus (then marathon training.) I will be working on nutrition/managing racing weight and supplemental strength. Additionally managing my time so my career and family/friends hardly notice the training Hey Gang, I have a couple of questions. 1) How do you put the list of Manatees with the links on the front of your training log. Many of you have this, and I would like to follow suit. 2) I would love to know what everyone's plans/goals are going into the off-season. Some people have goals listed in the from part of their logs, but it would be nice to hear what people are reaching towards these days, if you don't mind sharing ![]() You seem to be a champion at this. I am blown away at how consistent you are with both your training and having a fun-filled life |

I have a few running races that I am working towards, but no real GOALS. I have the same fuzzy objectives of running faster, swimming faster/more, blah, blah, blah. Wait, mine is actually to build a bike this winter. I have a Trek 1200 that I dated to the early 90's on a rack right now in my garage. It will re-emerge as a single speed. I am going to tear down, sand/paint, add new parts, and hopefully finish up with a serviceable single speed for training. The true reason for the build is education, I am sketchy on bottom brackets and a couple of other items. Long range, I hope to build a tri-bike at some point. ![]() Your build-a-bike goal is AWESOME, btw. I love this so much! Maybe we could attempt this at the same time--ooooh--maybe we could set up a challenge!!! I totally want to do this. You know who could help us if we got stuck (I'm sure a ton of people, actually), but Moondawg14 (Ryan) is AWESOME at this kind of thing. He's totally holding my hand as I attempt to tear apart my washing machine.

That is sooooo cool!!!!!!!! We want in-progress pix!!!! As for goals... my main focus has been RnR Denver which is in 2.5 weeks! After that... ? I'd like to keep the run focus but, like Chris, my goals are of the "get faster" sort. I'd like to find another HM to do this winter. I don't want to give up my bike fitness though so I'll probably pull out the drainer when the days get too short. I'm eyeing a June HIM in Steamboat Springs, CO. DH says do it. Entry fee is only $150 until the end of the year! Oh! I am a smidge over 12 miles from running 500 miles this year! So I'll probably hit it during my long run this weekend. It took me all of 2012 to hit that number! Woohoo! ![]() So running and biking fitness--ok. A HIM in Steamboat Springs? That sounds lovely. And a winter HM? Do you have one/some in mind? Would you use a specific plan to get you ready? |

OK, this is a list! I love that you've thrown yourself into Masters swimming. I think you'll be blown away by these gains. After it I will re-evaluate, but will probably be more run focused. I am planning a February 25k trail race and before that may do a December HM. In March I may start a get faster program for all 3 sports, but we'll see. What are your plans? ETA: i will also probably start back with TRX. What are your goals for the 25K trail race? What does TRX do for you--is it something you "just" enjoy, or does it a specific complement to your SBR? |

I want to get back in the gym and strength train regularly. It's going to hurt but I am too fluffy. I also want to do the winter bike plan again--too much tome off my bike this year I feel like I have lost any bike fitness I had. Rebuild my run speed cause I miss that.....and get my butt handed to me in the pool. I'm hoping that with a little distance the marathon thing will be a happy memory :) So you have strength training and SBR goals. How often do you strength train and what do you do that gets you the results you like? How do you balance the strength training with SBR? Do you find you have better results with doing one earlier in the day? |

Nice list :) OK, so what can we do to help you with your run, my friend? Is there a fun winter race you could pick out--maybe in a cool destination--that would help you stay motivated? Masters seems like it produces serious gains for the people who join. Is there a reason you don't want to do it? (I really want to join, but my schedule isn't jiving with it right now, I'm hoping I can make that change by January, if not before). No one should ever, EVER, do a six hour session on the drainer. *shudder* So you're in the watching the fluff group too? OK, I think those of us in this group can help each other with that :) |

Some people have goals listed in the from part of their logs, but it would be nice to hear what people are reaching towards these days, if you don't mind sharing :) Get faster. Building back up some volume in everything for a few weeks. Swimming will have intensity as able. Likely to put in a few swim heavy blocks. Bike will have some solid volume for a bit without the highest intensity, add that in later. Not all of it will easy, but also not *that* hard for awhile. Running will build back up for a bit, just getting mileage. Not as much as I did last year, but something sustainable while pushing the other two. Add a little intensity later on after regularly getting in some miles, and it won't interfere with the other two. I love it-- "get faster". Word. OK, so part of my reason for asking this of everyone is because I really think of you all as a resource, and I think if we know each others' goals, and can make them specific, we can help each other with encouragement and accountability. Ben, I don't know if you need either of those things, as you strike me as an incredibly self-motivated athlete, but I will be rooting for you to "get faster" and it sounds like you have a solid plan of attack. How far out do you map out your periodization and training? You don't work with a coach (yet), right? |
