Master 10208 Northern IL | Subject: RE: Rev3 Quassy - Half Rev : Official Thread Thanks for the warnings! Things like that are a reason I picked up a set of aerobars with the base handles dropped. Don't like switching at those speeds. And sounds good for the road conditions. I can handle a lot when running, but would much prefer not to on the bike. |

Master 1927 Guilford, CT | Subject: RE: Rev3 Quassy - Half Rev : Official Thread Dream Chaser - 2012-05-21 7:20 AM VERY IMPORTANT: Right after the long climb at Mile 31.4 there is a NASTY S-CURVE Descent. BE CAREFUL. A half dozen cyclists at each Rev3 Race have wiped out on this curve. Last year I saw a police officer there helping a riding who had fallen and waving other riders to slow down. Right after the long big climb, on my Garmin it was 31.4, there is a STEEP PLUNGE that just hooks left hard out of nowhere and then right. If you bomb this on the aerobars without a brake lever it's dicey. And right after this S-CURVE, there is another plunge with a Stop Sign and a sweeping left; but on race day traffic will be stopped. All the other descents are pretty straight-forward and non-technical. JUST BEWARE of this descent.
Bobby is wise. I was up over 50mph there last year and it was dicey. I'm going to try and come watch. I hope you guys get good weather. I can't race this year but with you all in spirit. |

Subject: RE: Rev3 Quassy - Half Rev : Official Thread Sucks your not racing Jay. Here is the elevation graph from my Garmin. It captures a lot of the small inclines and declines compared to some of the other elevation graphs I've seen. My garmin said just over 5,000 feet of ascent, but I think that was agressive. I believe I've seen where the course was measured with an altimeter and it comes in around 4400 feet of climbing. Edited by Dream Chaser 2012-05-21 8:28 AM |

Veteran 208 Canton, CT | Subject: RE: Rev3 Quassy - Half Rev : Official Thread My Garmin had the climb at 3,646. This seemed low to me. It also had my max heart rate at 216 and I would be dead if that happened so Im open to other data. It had the run (I did a slightly longer run of 7.9 miles becuase I got a little off course) of only 904 feet of elevation. This run felt like 4,000! I had nightmares of the winding dirt road last night. |

Perhaps it was so painful I've just blocked it out altogether My friend Wynn had an altimeter and he measured 4300 feet. |

Yep-very dicey...Like I told you earlier, Bobby, I had forgotten what you said and I remembered it as I was descending, turning and swearing at the curve and the truck that was rolling along with several of us. He turned out to be super nice and was very excited at the stop sign at the end of the hill-letting us know that we 'hit 45 mph!! on that hill' and congratulated us. I turned to the cyclist next to me and said, my bike computer will tell me later how fast I went and that I was just happy he didn't run us off the road while clocking us. Veteran 208 Canton, CT | Subject: RE: Rev3 Quassy - Half Rev : Official Thread Thats a very detailed graph using an altimeter. It confirms what we felt: Youre either climbing or descending. Unfortunately, there were times during the pre-ride that you could not take full advantage of a descent becuase of an intersection. This means you lose out on the kinetic energy you invested in during the climb. Hopefully this changes on race day but now that I have seen the course I still think there will be places that will rob you. |

Jim, ALL major intersections and intersections at the bottom of descents are blocked off by Connecticut Police. At least they were the last two prior years. The course is open to traffic - but it hasn't been an issue, so yeah you'll be able to carry more momentum throughout the course. |

New user 3 | Subject: RE: Rev3 Quassy - Half Rev : Official Thread Can any of you Quassy vets tell us what the course will be like for spectators? My family will be at the race, but I'm not sure what the spectating situation will be. Obviously, they can watch the swim and transition, but are there good spots to drive out to on the bike? You can drive from Quassy to Black Rock area without driving on the course, but wasn't sure how parking is near the course, and if everything is just a traffic nightmare that day. Any information will be helpful.
Thanks.

Darren Get there early Race morning, for sure!! Your family can hang out at the park but it doesn't open until later in the morning. Your family will see you off at the Swim Start ; they will see you when you come out of the Swim and can follow you to the outside of transition and see you off on the Bike. ( I would NOT recommend they follow you out onto the bike course or meet you out on the bike course. Trust me ) They will see you when you come off the Bike in T2 and head out on the Run. ***Instruct them to then cross the road and hang out near the sidewalk on the far side of Middlebury Rd. At mile 9 we will be running past Quassy on the sidewalk. Your family can see you and cheer you on here. They than can carefully cross back over and meet you at the finish line. |

Provided you are rested, weather and street conditions are good, and you don't have a bike mechanical; based on your ability and past results -- I would Guarantee a Sub 3 for you Rudy. |

Is this not doable? I guess I"m asking if there is parking after the race starts. |

They "claim" it is flat, but just by looking at the lake, i do not believe them. I am pretty sure i saw hills on the lake also.

Subject: RE: Rev3 Quassy - Half Rev : Official Thread They emailed out the Athlete Guide yesterday. All questions about parking/shuttles are answered in the guide. I looked at the wave starts and I'm happy to be going out in a later wave at 7:15 AM. Last year I was the wave right after the pro's and it was just a parade of people passing me on the bike for 56 miles. |

I want to be more towards the front to have more room on the bike course! Especially on one that would seem to be more technical. Hopefully the hills spread things out well. |

Veteran 268 Northern CT | Subject: RE: Rev3 Quassy - Half Rev : Official Thread Boo! I'm in the 2nd to last wave. I've been spoiled the last couple of years with early waves. Should be interesting. Anyone have experience with this bagged water? Is it on both bike and run stations - I usually only bring one extra water bottle with me on the bike and grab and refill at the aid stations. Not sure how I'd refill an aerobottle from a bag (without stopping) nor can you stash it in your cages. If it's anything like the pre-ride we're gonna need a lot of water. |

No experience with the bags, but it says run course. The idea seems interesting at least. Think more people liked them at Knoxville than didn't. We'll see how it goes for us. The bike should still have bottles. I don't see what type of bottle though. Edited by brigby1 2012-05-24 9:26 AM |

I'm in your group Rudy-the 'old men' go with the clydes, it seems, so I'll get to see your feet and bubbles for at least a minute of two. Try to ride down some pros on the bike, K? At least the first people to swim over me will be the women... Bobby will probably catch me on the swim-but if not, he'll most certainly get me on the bike...say 'Hi' and 'Bye' to me...
