Excellent! Thanks Aaron! I'll have to check the site again, but at least this should make a BT link-up very convenient!

We are only about three weeks out!  I am excited everyone.  There are several people I know that are making this their first triathlon.  I had someone at work ask me where my next tri was going to be...I said "Athens".  They then said - "You are going to Greece!"  Smile

Aaron, you know anything about bike check?  They have Tanner in Tyler listed, but Tanner no longer exists and has been replaced by Elite.  And Elite says they've had no correspondence with Jack whatsoever.  I've had mine checked at RBM last year, but alot of the triathletes here in East Texas are wondering what to do...  Surely, a trip to Dallas isn't necessary.

I'm not training for this tri necessarily, I just started training and plan to do a beginner indoor tri next month just to see where I am. Anyway, I have found several places to swim and run, however; I have no clue where to bike... any advice... I live in carrollton.

From your front door is the best place to ride for me. Use any of the following to check out roads and hopefully find you some good streets to ride on. Maybe someone more specifically from your area can give you some ideas. If you post more of a general vacinity/intersection you are near, I'm sure some on here can point you to some safe roads and routes.

I wonder if Jack would use any places here in Longview to check the bikes? Good luck Bonny on the 1/2 marathon...

I live in carrollton near the intersection of Josey and hebron and if I feel daring (usually early on Sat & sunday before the traffic gets going I ride this route or this route.  Both are nice because you are really only making right hand turns so you don't have to cross traffic and most of the roads are 3 lanes (with some construction to 2 lanes).  If you want to avoid traffic you can head to the campion trails in irving, it really is not that far the north end of the trail is like 10 miles from my house (let me know if you are not familiar with it and I can get a map/directions.  Carrollton also has a few small bike trails that if you piece together you can probably get a decent ride depending on how far you have been riding.

Hope this helps.

Mike,

It never hurts to ask - you could email him.  He responded very fast to my email.  The only bike shop in Longview is Wooley G's.    Thanks for the well wishes.  It is my first 1/2 marathon, and I am nervous.  Another person in our "Athens group" - TexasMPGal is doing a FULL marathon, the Austin one on Sunday as well!

I ride in the same general vicinity, and agree that the roads are nice and wide and relatively low traffic, especially north of George Bush. Word of caution though...that first route has two pretty stout hills if you are just beginning (or even if you've been riding awhile). If you are riding clockwise, the first one is on Josey just north of Parker. The second one is the real butt-kicker and is on Windhaven just east of Plano Parkway. They'll get your blood pumpin' and your legs barkin'.

Thanks for all the info! Good luck to all of you in Athens. I will be there for the second year in a row supporting one of your fellow triathletes... and getting inspired so that I can do it next year!

I just heard from a few friends that rode the Athens bike course last weekend that the first 2-3 miles of the loop have been chipsealed.  But the course is still expected to be fast.

No intentions of being negative here, but I know alot of people like to know what the conditions are before the race.

Not too far away now.  I hope to see all of you, or at least most of you, at the carbo dinner the night before.

Chipseal, it's what's for breakfast.

Seriously, I wonder how long until every frakking road in Texas is chipseal?

What is Chipseal? I'm assuming it makes the surface rough...
