The Mrs and I along with my parents will be driving in from Milwaukee on Thursday night.  I hope to be in town no later than 10 PM EST Thursday night, unless we can all get out of work a little early.  Looking forward to meeting all of you that I haven't had a chance to meet yet.

You are more than welcome to crash in our room!  We are staying about  1 1/2 miles fromthe race and we think that you can walk there along the beach.  I'll call and find out for sure.

Is it a party?!

ETA: Practiced my correction skills with your  post!  Hope you don't mind!

I did the race last year for my first HIM.

I work in Benton Harbor and thought some restaurant suggestions would be good for the out-of-towners (my favorites are underlined in blue)...

These four places are all downtown St Joseph near the bluff:
Pumphouse Grill for steaks, ribs, etc.. http://pumphousegrille.com/
Cafe Tosi for more casual salads, sandwiches, soups, etc..  http://caffetosi.com/
Schu's Grill and Bar for casual traditional food  http://schus.com/
Tim's Too on the corner of Pleasant and State street (accross the street from Cafe Tosi), like a BD's do-it-yourself mongolian grill, but a little more quaint.

For the Chicago native (like me), you might appreciate a drive south to Mr. Goody's for Chicago dogs, Maxwell Street polish sausage, gyros, hamburgers, cheese fries, chicken sandwiches, etc...  4100 M 139, St Joseph, MI, Phone: (269) 429-5760.  This is at the intersection of M-139 and M-63, 1.5mi South of I-94.

La Perla (1231 Pipestone Rd just East of M139 in Benton Harbor) is a Mexican Grocery Store with authentic Mexican food in the back.  REALLY good, inexpensive, authentic Mexican Food.  Yeah, it's in rougher part of town... but I frequent the place for lunch.

For a big italian meal, you can't beat Tosi's (http://tosis.com/) further south, it is the big brother of Cafe Tosi's with full italian menu, bar, wine, etc...

Clementine's Too (http://ohmydarling.com/), on the river is good too for burgers, sandwiches, fish, traditional dishes...

St Joe/Benton Harbor has some of the usual chains too (Jimmy John's, Papa Vino's, Chili's, Fudrucker's, Q'doba and all the fast food joints).  Unfortunately, no Chipotle.

Note, Some parts of Benton Harbor are ROUGH.  Check with the hotel before heading out.   The Benton Harbor area near I-94, the hotels, Target are all fine.  Also, anything near the lake is fine (that's where the million-dollar+ homes are).   Just be careful heading NW on Pipestone or North on M-139 as you approach Bus Rte 94.  I drive through this area all the time, but would not walk nor jog around parts of Benton Harbor at night.  Honestly, I'm from Chicago and have spent time in major cities (LA, NYC, Miami, Atl, Detroit) and parts of Benton Harbor are as rough as I've come by.  No running alone.

I put the 2007 routes on BT's Route Tracker.

Thanks for the info.  We are staying at the Marriot Coutyard, so I will map a driving route to the course not taking Pipestone Rd.  When this gets a little closer we will have to plan a BT get lunch or dinner or something along those lines.

Just take Napier west to M63.  Follow M63 North to the race site.

Although, at 4:45 am, all the crazies are passed out...

McFuzz and I are coming in to volunteer again this year.  Not sure what time we will be getting in though as it depends on if the train from New Mexico will be on time or not.  He will be returning that day with the youngest 2 from Philmont Scout Ranch.  Hope to be there in time for a BT get together.  I should be working the table coming out of the water and the finish line, AGAIN!!!! I absolutely LOVE working the finish line!  That and the body marking are my favorites!

As BAMBAM said, we're coming up to volunteer again this year.  Hoping to be in town early enough to meet up for dinner.  We're up for Saturday night about anywhere people want to congregate.

For anyone coming around New Buffalo (just inside the MI state line) at meal time, Redamak's in New Buffalo is a local institution.  (Burgers etc.

I think the hotel I got a reservation at is as bad as yours, lol! it should make for an interesting night before the race.

I say we should pick the crappiest place for dinner we can find to have the complete experience
