Subject: RE: NBA Finals- Celts/Lakers

mdg2003 - 2008-06-01 9:18 AM  I remember and loved to watch the old Celts vs. Lakers match ups. I would like the Celts to win but.......Celtics will find themselves in foul trouble and have to rely on their bench in every game. Lakers 4-1. I'm not saying the Celts play dirty. The Celts play hard and the league won't let ANY team play hard against the Lakers. Any fan who does not care for the Lakers is aware of this 'tendency.' Lakers fans are oblivious to this and will probably jump my a** here. Just an observation, please don't take offense.

I love that I have been wrong on this one!!!!!!! I'll be taking my conspiracy theory and shoving it in the closet until next year.......

Doesn't work that way. You know what we're saying now? The Lakers were too passive because they were expecting the hometown foul calls. They weren't aggressive to the hoop at all in the 4th. Just kept passing the ball around and leaning into people expecting to get to the line. They didn't get any calls like has been happening, and they didn't adjust, so they basically just let the Celtics take the lead while waiting for the refs to bail them out. The refs stopped the hometown calling in response to all the heat from Donaghy's statements.

There is always room for more conspiracy.

And see, the really convenient part of this for the Roswell wanna-bes, is that either way, last night they could say, "See!!  Conspriracy!!"

If the Lakers had won, it would have been because of the conspiracy.
The Lakers lost, and it was because of the conspiracy.

If the Lakers lose Game 5 and the Celtics get more trips to the line, it will be because the refs were trying to do anything other than a homejob.  If they win and the Celtics commit more fouls, it is because of the vast ref-wing conspiracy.  And on and on... blah blah blah.

It's true. But this is something no one can argue:

The Lakers inexplicably rolled over in the 4th last night. Effort went down, aggressiveness disappeared, and they never seemed to think they had a problem. Not even when they were down on the scoreboard. The only player out there in yellow still playing 100% was Kobe and that's probably because he's so me-first to begin with.

Bill Simmons has a pretty funny article this morning, especially if you're a Celt fan.

7:46: The game just got delayed for a minute because Dyan Cannon's face started spurting saline all over the court. Let's get her a towel. Meanwhile, trailing by 18 at the 8:26 mark, the Celtics go small with Posey at the 4. Basketball has to be the only thing in life where you can decide to "go small," and it's actually a good thing.

OK, can we officially stop with the Kobe-MJ comparisons now?

7:50: For God's sake, these TV timeouts are so long you have time to shave, make an English muffin and finish a Sudoku puzzle. We've seen at least 200 ads, although none of them were for Tim Donaghy's new book, "Grasping For Straws: How I Regurgitated Every Shaky NBA Story That Was Already Known In An Effort To Cut a Deal with the Feds."

For the conspiracy theorists:

This series will end Sunday in order to get the NBA out of the headlines. No games, no big story.

trust me there are many more NBA therories.. I'm waiting for that ref to confirm that MJ was forced to retire due to his gambling debts which in turn was the reason for his fathers death..

I could easily list a dozen or so from the past 15 yrs..   who else remembers the frozen envelope that sent Patrick Ewing to the knicks then they changed the draft to the popcorn ball system..

It's usually more fun than watching most games, just sitting around making up stuff to post on a NBA board,

Actually it's really easy. All you have to do is change the parameters in a way that will predictably cause one team to have more success than the other. You don't have to force the outcome in order to predetermine it.

Yes it was.   Glad to see KG finally get his.

Even in the Lakers' wins, they clearly showed they didn't belong in the Finals

I loved what KG said to Bill Russell after the game, if you overheard it, "I hope we made you proud."  Class act, and I don't know if I've ever seen a happier man than KG after that game last night.

Sure they did... they did beat every other team necessary to get there, right?

Woo Celts! World Series, 18-1 and a Super Bowl appearance, and an NBA title all in one year. Holy crap. We also got the MLB rookie of the year, NBA defensive player of the year, the NFL MVP, and 50/23 TDs.

Has a city ever had a run like this in major sports? If you count soccer too the Revolution have gone to three straight championship games.

Three straight championship games isn't good enough?

The Revolution have practically zero fans here. I live 5 minutes from the stadium and no one around here even knows when they are playing. Not even the local paper mentions them.

Now I can finally sleep!

x2.  I'm so tired!!!  I'm going to bed at 8:00 tonight!!

So glad the Celts wrapped it up.  Great game.  Love Ray Allen (played for UCONN back in the day) and he was on fire!
