OK, I called:

"Hit the Trail" has a race, 5K, that will start behind the Fishhawl Fellowship church at 7:pm on Friday night. Pre-register and on site register are at 6 pm.

The details of how it relates to Christine I am not totally clear on, but it does, and I will talk to the guy again in the morning. He was not in, so I had to dig for details of "hear/say"

But- THERE IS A 5K RUN On Friday in the Lithia, FL area for Christine.

I am there!

FF
Todd

p.s. I even came back and cleaned up my spelling. but that is the only time.

Hey kids. Coach Freddie was Christine's coach, as well as several of us BTer's.  He was here at the hospital today and he told me the 5K proceeds would all go in memory of Christine.  Hit the Trails is one of his sponsors.

He sent me the email info, but I can't access it from here at the hospital.  When I get home tonight I will post an update.  For anyone who can come out in her memory, please do so!  She would want us out there running and kicking butt for her!!

Ok, we should have a virtual 5k.  If you can't make it to tampa and you can pay the fee, (all proceeds go to Christine's family) Register for her race and run the race where ever you are. We can show her our support from all over the world.

I will get the online registration info ASAP.

Renee - 2008-07-14 6:56 PM Yes, that's it.

Renee, before we broadcast this can we be sure that all the monies that we will be sending will indeed reach her family? If not we can open our own paypal account.

Great idea to do it viutually and make sure 100% of the funds get to her family either through paypal or through the link.

I'd love to do 5K for Lucy

I just registered. If it ends up not going to Christine and her family, I'll be glad to send money wherever.

I think this is a fantastic idea, and could, in just a few days, be the biggest virtual race ever. I'll be doing my 5k as part of a long brick on Saturday.

Although I did not know her personally, I am very sad about this turn of events. I pray her family will find peace. I have been through this myself and it is never easy. Her family and friends will be in my prayers.

Count me in for the virtual 5K.

I had contacted the race organizer to volunteer to help/volunteer with anything he needed for the race. I received this reply:

 Hi,

At this point just running the race will be help as all proceeds will return to the Rushers.

By the way, this race is in the BT race database. Be sure to add it to your race log if you plan to run it, virtually or otherwise.

Ok, this is it. The LINK to the 5K run in honor of Christine Rusher. The run will be Friday, July 18th at 7pm near Tampa, FL. For those of you who knew Christine or would like to be a part of this run to honor her, whether or not you can attend, please sign up for the race. All the proceeds will be going to her family.

For those of us that cannot be there with the family that evening I would like to suggest that at 7 pm (est) we run a 5k wherever we maybe.

The hope is that this huge and wonderful BT family will be out in force, showing our love and support for Christine, her family and each other.

Life is so short and precious, you never know when it might be taken from you. God bless you, Christine. We will never forget you.

Thanks Trixie - I think it's a great way to honor her, especially if we remember to run with joy! What impresses me most about all the pics of Christine I've seen on people's blogs today is her huge smile - it's always there.

Should we let the RD know we are 'virtual' runners when signing up somehow, so they don't go and buy us a bunch of water and snacks and stuff?

Love to all y'all,
AB

I have registered for the 5K in Christine's honor.  My 5K will be in my neighborhood, in the Friendswood/Pearland TX area and I will wear my BT shirt in honor of Christine and this wonderful community of people.

Peace to you, Christine!!

I am about to go find my debit card to register. I am in tampa but already promised to be in st.pete with my son. So I will be running at about 530am on Friday. For everyone running on friday, whether in Lithia, or your own neighborhood I have a small request. Anytime you are making a sharp turn, especially a U-turn, put your arms out wide like you are an airplane. I've seen Christine do this in a few races, first time was the Secret Service run of 2006. She always got some smiles on her tight turns. I later found out she did this to help with her equilibrium. Oh and leave the ipods at home too.

That's actually a good question.  It'd probably be nice to have a way to comminicate to the RD our intentions to not actually be at the physical race location.  Any ideas?

Email him to let him know?

I have his email address. Let me make sure it's kosher to post it publicly. Or, PM me and I'll give it to you. I'll email him in the meantime and ask him how he'd like to handle it.
