Wow.  It cracks me up that the scale on left is a grand total of 400 feet...from 300 to 700....

That scale would be in the 1000's of feet around here....

I'm not sure USAT would be ok with a knife....

It looks like 14 waves, 4 mins apart. Working on it right now.

Ouch, is there anyway to make that 2-3 minutes or so?

1 second that.  I'm in the very last wave, so i'm starting nearly 1 hour after the 1st people in the water.  It's gonna be a lonely course for us BOP'ers.....

Hey Keith,  Can you tell us what the cut-off's are and are they from the start of your wave or the start of the first wave?

Yikes; and that shifts the time into the hotter part of the day. Now I'm really prayin' for cooler weather.

BTW: Dodgersmom, please take this with the humor intended; but there is just a hint of irony with your post and then your sig line!

but if you're worried about wind and the deeper 1080 the course is fairly protected by trees most of the way and I wouldn't fear the crosswind with the deeper wheelset.

I will be using 1080s at Longhorn. I've taken mine out in mountain winds to see how they act on curves and at speed. If it's very windy, I won't run the front 1080. However, at 20+ mph winds from all directions running just the rear 1080 my bike handles perfectly and is signficantly faster compared to my training wheels.

Hey Keith,  Can you tell us what the cut-off's are and are they from the start of your wave or the start of the first wave?

The website states that the cutoffs are based on the beginning time of your swim wave.

"All triathletes must be capable of completing the swim in 1 hour and 10 min from THEIR swim wave, completing the bike by 5:30 minutes from their wave start, and finishing the entire race in 8:00. All cyclists must be past the 28 mile mark of the bike course within 4 hours of their wave start. All athletes must begin their second loop of the run before the 7:30 mark. "

Is the swim course going to be setup for a practice swim on Saturday?  Anyone know?  Keith?

IMO, climbing difficulty is largely based on sustained grade. All my rides have sustained 2000 foot climbs over ten miles (~4% grade), which is typical of Colorado. But the climb I dread most is up a little 400 foot hill up to my house at a 10% grade. A great example is the Old Stage climb in Boulder Peak Oly which is only 600 feet but at a 10% grade and which slowed my overall 40k bike split by about 2 mph.

Two quick questions:

1. What is there to do for spectators at the park. My fiance thinks she will be bored and won't know what to do for 7 hours.

2. Any updates on if the live tracking system is going to be implemented?

I noticed yesterday when I checked the entrants list that the bib#'s and wave #s are there. It doesn't say what time your wave goes off, but it does say what wave you are in.

To Answer 1: Not sure. But us BTers who are not racing will be hanging out cooking and what not. She can hang with us if she wants.

Looks like 14 waves - about 4 minutes between waves I believe - I will be second to last - nothing like coming into the transition with no bikes.

Anyone have any details on where/how we register to get athlete tracking via text messaging?

Seem to remember a previous thread that said text messaging updates would be available for Longhorn.

right now, we're not having the text messaging for Longhorn. It was too hit or miss at the other races. But, we may have online race tracking at the race site. Have a meeting in a few minutes to see if it'll happen....

btw Keith, thanks for taking the wave starts down to 3 minutes. That shaves like 11 minutes off of my wait. I'll have plenty of time to admire the transition area during my run, I don't need it waiting for the swim.

I'm in the last wave, there really should be no bikes in there when I get there

Looks like we'll have an ATHLETE TRACKING station at the race site, with 12 notebook computers, where we'll have real-time splits for spectators. We're also going to have a timing mat at the 28 mile of the bike, that will give people splits back at the park.

We're also going to have a RESULTS tent, with computers to print out your results card....

There will also be the athlete tracking online at www.ironmanlive.com and at our site, www.ironmanlonghorn.

That sufficient?????
