How about if I just ride in front of you dragging some ribs on a string?

Just a suggestion for Keith at Longhorn:

We were at a 1/2 Ironman race this weekend in DFW and they provided cold towels at a few of the water stations on the run!  This was one of the best ways to keep body temperature down as many people put the towels on top of their heads (under the hat).  I know that you used sponges at Lone Star but this seemed to work a little bit better.  With this Texas heat, we will do anything to not let it beat us!!!!!

Yes,

I really enjoyed the icy cold towels on the run course as well.

I'm one step ahead of you....

We have 25,000 sponges on their way, and are working on having a bunch of towels at different spots, too

At River Cities they were just small.  maybe 16 inches long and 6 or so inches wide.  They were long enough that you could drape them across the back of your neck and they would stay in place.  They were pure heaven on that run course

If anyone needed further proof of how lucky we are to have Keith as an RD for a local Austin race and 2 races down the road in Galveston.

Now he just needs to work with the new WTC owners and the city so he can run a full IM here in central Texas. Hell, I'd be fine with having it in Dallas, since while Austin is great for training, it really doesn't have the right venue for a full IM.

Dennis, this is something I can completely agree with.  Despite my training ups and downs, and the jokes to go with them, I have been completely impressed with Keith's attentiveness to everything the athletes are requesting.

I have wished for three years that Texas would have an IM...and Keith seems like just the guy to get it done.

So there you have it, Keith.  In case you weren't busy enough already, we just added to your "to do" list.

Seconded. I'd do a full IM around here. I could even help put together the course.

My wife would divorce me.....

Honestly, from a family perspective, I'm really tapped out. I constantly wage this inner battle between doing more and what's best for my family.

My wife and I talk about it ALL the time, and our plan going forward. I LOVE doing this stuff, but it's incredibly draining and stressful. I want to see Ian grow up, and spend time with him. With my schedule now, it's not easy to do.

What that means, I'm not sure. But there's also a strong belief at EndorFUN about having FEWER races, but devoting even more time to each of them. We're incredibly proud of what we do. But there's a point where you can't do each event well, as you're stretched too thin. It also means that customer service takes a backseat. I have a REALLY hard time keeping up with all of the phone calls and emails. I get about 300 emails a day. It's important to me that I personally answer them, but with more races come more emails and phone calls....

We're certainly not at that point, but I don't think you'll be seeing us add more events. I do think you'll see each race becoming better, though.

I'd rather have 4 of the best race experiences in the world for all of you than 7-8 good races.

A little off-topic, but a longwinded way of saying probably no IM in our future. I always leave the door open, and never say never, though

Hey, we're not saying you need to do more races.....you just need to make one of them an IM in central Texas. ;p

Seriously, I certainly understand the family commitment issues and I can't imagine how many balls you have to keep in the air putting these races on the way you do.

The towels were 12 in by 16 in and they were so helpful!  Sponges are great but the towels work wonders!!!  Thank you so much!!!

I have done lots of races and Lone Star HIM was the best experience for me!  Every detail was well taken care of!  Thanks for doing what you do!!!

Keith....since your on the Texas thread I'm sure you won't get too many complaints if you give up those Yankee races for an IM here.

We're not selfish or anything.

OK, that's not such a bad thing.  I still want to do those races.   However, TX Peeps, I know I'm preaching to the choir but we need to make sure Longhorn and Lonestar stay strong since we're the newbies in Keiths races and I can only imagine the chaos of life trying to put on the best races in the US.

You rock Keith.  Thanks for all your hard work and pass it along to your team too.

You can't go wrong either way for $50 but if you're worried about wind and the deeper 1080 the course is fairly protected by trees most of the way and I wouldn't fear the crosswind with the deeper wheelset.  I'm certain there will be plenty of disks out there.  I have 808's and will be using them for the race.  The Zipp web site has a lot of good info on the comparison of the two (weight differences etc.) so you can make the right choice.

That being said, if you are M35-39 I would encourage to use a very heavy stock wheelset to really challenge yourself

Im a 25-29 male... Clydesdale.... so weight isnt going to be that big of a difference for me.... Im 205 so Im just looking for something that will knock some time off... I have never rode with any aero wheels... How will it be benificial for me to use these on the course... i know there susposed to make you faster but by how much?

Here's a link on aero wheel benefits that give you rough idea of time savings. How much time are you getting to try out the wheels, and are they a different type (e.g. tubular vs clincher) than what you are used to? New anything on race day can be tricky. Make sure you're not going to cost yourself more time than you save due to things like being more cautious around turns or going down hills, etc.

Cautions aside, I've seen mostly great reports on people that rented race day wheels; and I'd love to try out some 808's for $50 myself, that's a good deal...

Be honest about your evaluation of the wheels. Zipp has put a ton of money into marketing and sponsorships and may not have the best product on the market. I have been told that Zipp has been using cheaper materials to build wheels to offset the costs. It is also interesting to note that the hubs on the "over the counter" wheels sold to the general public are not the same hubs used on the wheels given to sponsored athletes because of the poor quality of the regular hubs.

Make sure you have plumbers tape and valve extenders in case you do flat. These are all things to think about if you've never raced a deep dish wheel.
