Wow, my bike split from last year was close to that!  Maybe I should make my goal to beat that this year.

I'll change my overall women's vote to her now ......

Oh cool.  I'm doing the bike leg in the relay group so she'll be done by the time I even start.  At least she won't be passing me on the bike!

2 questions for those of you that know this bike course, as i've never seen it:

1) I currently have an 12-23 cassette (road bike) and i'm planning to switch to my 12-27 for Columbia b/c of the hills.  I'm a MOP cyclist and haven't hit many hills yet this year.   Right move?

2) I have Profile GT Jammer clip on aerobars.  Do you think I should use them for this course or not?  Not sure about the aero vs. added weight benefit.  My inclination is if it is a very hilly course i should leave them off.

thanks all.  looking forward to the race.  good luck!

It's rolling hills.  I use my TT bike with a disc an 11-21 cassette.  You'd be more than fine with a 12-27!

Time to start checking the weather everyone!

Use your aerobars if you are comfortable with them.

The course is rolling - not a whole bunch of long sustained hills just a lot of up and down.

That's awesome. I don't think she has competed in a non Ironman or ITU event in a long time.

I also haven't mentioned that my saddle is totally falling apart. I was having issues with comfort about 4 or 5 weeks ago (came up out of nowhere, it's the same saddle I've always used). Anyway, after playing around with it for a while, I finally got everything back to where it's completely comfortable. Well, over the past few rides, I've developed two big holes in the outer material, one on each side. You can totally see all the green stuff inside the saddle...whatever it is. I have a new seat that I plan to put on there, but with all those issues I was having, I am afraid to replace it before Columbia. Hopefully it'll survive through Sunday.

It started raining about 1/2 way through my ride last year, but the relays started dead last with the Clydes, so it was pretty late in the morning.

After swimming through 12 hours at Lake Placid last year going down hills that were 5 miles long or so, rain doesn't bother me that much.

But it was windy as hell Saturday when I rode the course ...... pretty typical for most of this year so I don't expect anything less this weekend.

Do a lot of people wear aero helmets? I am debating using mine. I am comfortable in it, but I am not sure if it really would help. It helps with Eagleman because of the wind and the flat course, but what about Columbia?

I averaged around 23.5 last year .... hell yeah it is usable and doable!

Of course I didn't have to run afterward.

Nice. I would kill to be able to do 23.5! I have been training on harder terrain and conditions, so I have not been able to get an accurate training pace yet. I am going on Wednesday to do the course, so we shall see then

Keep in mind that is a little less than the women's pro course record and I finished the ride 23rd overall for bike splits (including the pros).  It is a killer course to hold a high speed average on ........ and since I was in a relay I didn't have to run hard afterward ... I just went for an easy recovery run after passing off my chip.

Is the lake open to swimmers during the day? I am thinking about doing an open water swim and then bike the course on Wednesday morning. Will I be allowed in the water? There will not be a life guard I know, but my friend will be there to make sure I do not freeze or die.

NO SWIMMING IN THE LAKE!

I used to work at the lake during this time of the year and many people tried to do this.  If you get caught by anyone (which will happen) you have a chance of being disqualified and also prosecuted for something like trespassing.  THere are signs all over that and honestly I wouldn't want to swim in that lake at this time period.

They usually don't dump the chemicals in the lake until Tuesday and then another time on Thursday friday or sometime even saturday!.
