Yay, Maggy Ruth! I just started week 2, still hooked, still pushing play, still bringing it. I drank the Kool-Aid, and it tasted good.

I realized I never took my measurements before I started. I think I'm gonna take them today and figure one week won't have changed anything substantially. I want something to compare! Taking the before shots was painful, but it will be good to have them to look at at the end.

Ill be starting soon, next week I hope if I get home from business. Can I get some ideas what to get for resistance, I have stretch cords already, are most of you using dumbells? I just checked play it again and they want $1 pound so for a few dumbells it adds up. Some exercises 20's may be ok,others mybe too light, I dont want to drop $300 on weights, I would be happy with two pairs of dumbells to get me through the program, what is everyones experience? Already have a pullup bar and pushup handles.

I like the bands myself.  You may not know how much you are lifting but you can change the resistance easily to be what you need.

So I've looked at this thread a couple times over the last year and am considering trying this out. I'm done with tris for the year so timing is good.

I had lost up to 97 pounds and have put on a few and would like to finally get down to my ideal weight maybe lose 15 this off season. I like strength training and in 2008 could do 30 push ups with my feet up on a bench and have had the goal to do pull up for a long time so it seems something I'd enjoy.

I wonder how do you integrate this into swim, bike, and run training? I just am finishing a month off of no swim/bike/run to allow myself to recover both physically and mentally from my Ironman. I will be racing cyclocross this fall most weekends and some weekends both Saturday and Sunday..it is tough feels effort wise like running a 5K but it is on a bike. I do want to run 4-5x a week and ride when the weather is nice. I don't work so I have free time when our kids are in school.

When training picks up again do you keep at it or can you do it less often or some other way to maintain with less sessions a week? I can't see how I could do IM training and this 6-7x a week.

How much space do you need?

I've been looking at this thread, too.  I'm wondering what results any IM-oriented athletes have had using P90X in the off-season, and how you structured the workouts?  I think integrating some strength training right now will help me kick-start my metabolism to lose a few pounds and will provide a base of strength for off-season training.

As far as space needed:  Max about 8 x 8 area and that is only for the walking lunges and Kenpo really otherwise you could just about doit in the space your body takes up.  There are different versions that you can do: Classic,  Lean and Doubles.  There are only 3 real weight days and the other 4 are Kenpo, Yoga, Plyometrics and rest or stretch.  So you would be adding about 4 hours to your training a week.  Just the basics because I am not training for an IM.

Day 2 complete.  Made swimming a little hard this morning, but getting in the hot tub felt great.  It felt a little like recovering from a tri!  Hoping to keep up on running and biking and do all of the strength work outs.  Lofty goals, but worth it.

Hey P90X folks! I am back at it again. I have been healing up my stupid chronic shoulder stuff but it seems to be doing all right so we (the Hubby and I ) have re-started. I am doing the Lean version to burn off some flab and get back into to it. But it is not a cream puff workout by any means. The Core synergistic that I did today was equally as hard as any that I have done in the past. I am about 2 months away from re-starting my actual Tri training.  I have a May event as my first of the next year so I will be training through the Winter. You all are so amazing and super helpful. That makes it fun to be back at it. Wish us luck.

I have a question for the P90X triathletes in here.  I am doing the chicago marathon in 2 weeks and then I planned to do a round of P90X right after.  Following that, I was going to avidly train for triathlons, focusing on the swimming and riding since I've got the running down good.

Could I replace the Kenpo/Plyo/Yoga with running, biking, and swimming?  Should I focus the program and fit in other workouts as time and energy allow?  I was doing P90X while training for my marathon but ultimately couldn't do both.  I got to week 9 and I had to bag the program once my mileage climbed above 30mpw.

I don't feel like I can do both P90X and cross training since I really want to follow the nutrition plan.  I know that if I do too much that I'll be hungry all the time.  Thanks for any advice.

That is what I would do Krisko.  Spend 3 hours a week on strength while you can and the closer it gets to Tri back off the strength and more on specificity . .

So you wouldn't do any of the P90 cardio workouts?

Nope,  Not once you are doing Tri training.  The only one that I think mught still have a purpose is Plyometrics (awesome workout).  Almost forgot Yoga could also be of help,  but I don't think the whole 1 1/2 hour is necessary.

Day 4 complete.  Things are going good.  Plyometrics a little hard on my knees, think I am going to do some substituting on that next week.  My wife is doing it with me, I think that is going to make us both do more.  My knee does not like lunges either, so the leg workout will be a challenge I am sure, but I will modify as needed, although working out one leg sounds like a bad idea....if anyone has any suggestions that would be great.

Don't go as deep in the lunges if they hurt.  Just go through the motions and go as deep as you can with out hurting yourself and with any luck you will build up strength throughout the knee to allow you to go deeper in the future.

Has anyone noticed an improvement in S/B/R as a result from P90x, no debate, just wanted to see because my S/B/R were bad this year due to nagging injuries.

I'll get back to you in about 89 days. ;-)  Just started the P90X lean program yesterday... the 90 days will end just before the new year starts.

The biggest downside I see to it is that I may have to cut out some of my s/b/r session (or at least shorten them) because of the intensity of the workouts in P90X.  So my immediate performance in the 3 may suffer in the short term, but hopefully the strength gains and weigh loss from the program will ultimately lead to a better s/b/r performance in the long term.

Saw this on your page...Wowsa!1  The only change I would make is possibly the Yoga X since it is an hour and a half.  I would do either the first 45 min (which is tough or the balance poses on the second half.

Are you suggesting cutting it short because it would affect my recovery week, or because its so challenging, or because its boring? From the feedback I'm reading at Beachbody, those who have embraced yogax are so glad they did as it added a newmotivation to thier workouts. I get the opposite impression from threads Ive read on BT. I have not done it yet, after the awful season I just had my focus is to improve flexibility and muscle imbalances, so I was trying to make sure I had that included on my recovery week. Honestly I dont think I will make it through most of the workouts anyway so I will do as much as I can , but, I can do between 8-10 wide grip pullups, hope that gives me a little confidence when I try to bring it.

The workout (Yoga X) is 1 1/2 hours long with the first 45 min being a lot of Vinyasa's  (ALOT) and warrior poses.  The second half is balance poses.  It is tough but if you can hang with it I think the whole thing is good.  I guarantee by the time you get to the balance poses you will be very happy.

I was specifically speaking of the 90 min spin day and then Yoga X.  That might be a bit much,  but heck maybe it will work well for you.  You can split the workout into 2 though and make it a tad easier.

Thanks for your insight, I will see what I can endure, I will be splitting bike and P90 as a morning and evening workout because I have the time on the weekends. The only workouts I plan doing back to back are the abripper and lifting days. Thanks again for your help!
