I am doing the Marathon thing as well and if I had my choise I think I would miss Kenpo.  I would think the Yoga might help you be more agile.  I personally am as flexible as a brick.

I'm training for a marathon and trying to do the p90x.  If I had to skip either yoga or kenpo which one should it be?

Absolutely skip the kenpo but the yoga is a must, you could also skip plyo (lot of wear on the legs). I'm doing the half ironman training and then marathon in Jan, I do plyo most of the time, but always skip kenpo.

1st week in the books and I'm sore in placed I never thought possible.  Lost 9# since last Friday.  Mostly water but I'm still pretty happy about it.  Plyo tomorrow!

3rd week started and gained 4 pounds.  Oh well,  Finished Chest/Back and AB ripper X yesterday and didn't do as much as week 1 and 2.  However,  I was worn out and didn't know if I could walk back in the house.  I am hoping it has something to do with the 18 mile run yesterday which was killer as well and I am blaming that on Friday being Legs/Back and ABX.  I am changing legs/Back to Wednesday so I get a better break before my long runs on the weekend.

Got my DVDs in the mail!! I was thinking I would have to finally dig my TV and DVD player out of storage, but I think I'm going to try these running on the computer instead. I'd hate to break my 2+-year streak of no TV, even if it is only hooked up to the player.

I'm going to ask my landlord about the pullup bar. Unfortunately, I really can't do a screw-in, as she feeds my cat on a regular basis and comes over to hang out and chill (I live above her garage, we're friends). She'd, uh, notice. I've also seen a couple bands-over-the-door setups, so I'm going to try that.

I think I'm going to stick with my original plan, though, and wait to start this until October or November. I'm considering watching the DVDs and trying some of the stuff just to get an idea what I'm in for, but with running, biking, and hiking/backpacking, my body is pretty much at its limit right now. Will be just the thing for the super-obnoxious not-quite-winter non-hiking season, though!

Hi all -

New to the BT forum and just saw this P90X thread! P90X is an awesome program.  I lost over 35 lbs doing it and got into good enough shape to do my first Tri this summer.  I am currently doing my 3rd round of P90X so if any of you guys have questions about the workouts or the nutrition (which is like 80% of the program, IMO) please ask.  I also posted a bunch of before and after pics on my blog below if you want to see some proof.

Bring It!

Oh, I brought it! Shoulders & Back, then AbRipperX. I pushed to failure every time, especially on the second set, and then I got done and was like, "that's it? I'm not even tired!" I think I will live to eat those words. I'm nicely sore tonight at work, looking forward to Plyo in the morning!

I did find out that I REALLY need a heavier set of weights. I have one of the variable kind that goes from 2.5# to 12.5# per weight, and I am already maxed on the 12.5#. I got them to do light weight, high rep, so I'll just have to do that until I can scrape the cash for more. I don't care about bulking up - I want to look RIPPED!

Haven't taken my pics, though. Bad timing, my BFF is out of town with her camera (mine is toast). I think I'm gonna steal the company camera and do them in the locker room.

I dunno if Shopko is a nationwide store or not, but my buddy was telling me they have resistance bands you can buy for $10-12 each and they get supersonic hard. I know the bands have some limitations with a few of the moves in P90X but they are very adjustable - you can put one foot in the middle, both feet together, feet shoulder width, wider than shoulder width, etc., for different levels of resistance. I'm actually maxed out on the green band when I do back & biceps so I'm looking to up my resistance as well. The little cheat sheet says it's equivalent to 40 lbs of resistance, but I don't know how that's measured.

Either way, it's a good problem to have!

Ain't THAT the truth!

Plyo was awesome today. I was workin' it hard, and actually getting disappointed because, like yesterday, it just didn't seem all that extreme. I mean, I was keeping up just fine. Sure, there was room for improvement, but I thought I'd be dead and barely able to keep up. So I'm thinking to myself during a water break, "Well, okay, I'll just go for a run after, that's fine." I come back, and Tony says, "Okay, we're halfway through!" WHAT??? Let's just say I got my a## kicked after that!

But, um, did anyone else have serious trouble figuring out the pitch-throw-catch thing? I actually went back to it after the cool down to try to get the moves, and I can do my dominant side kinda sorta okay after a lot of replays, but my non-dominant side I had no idea which limb was supposed to go where!

Slugger,  Non dominant side for Pitch/Throw is definitely funny,  but if you ever played baseball then this exercise is nothing.  I had a harder time with the basketball jump shot since I didn't play B ball much.

I've played plenty of softball, outfield and first base, so I can do the movement in reality, just not with them, my limbs were everywhere! I needed an actual ball to figure it out, but I don't think my windows would do too well with that...   I didn't have too much trouble with the jump shot, though they were going faster than I was until I got everything figured out. Oh well, more incentive to try again, right??!

And my DOMS from Plyo has kicked in hardcore tonight! Feelin' it, yeah!!! Pushed it hard on Shoulders and Arms today, and KILLED the side-tri-pushup. Felt great!

The side tri's are a pretty awesome little pushup.  I have a problem with getting my arm straight,  but oh well I keep pressing through when I do them.

Um, what do you guys think of the Yoga? I was psyched to finally get to do yoga...and I shut it off after 25 minutes, bored outta my ever-livin' skull. Wow. Guess that turns into a run day.

Loved Kenpo, though. I snapped my joints a bit, can feel them tonight, but not too bad, I don't think. Back to Shoulders and Back this morning, wonder if I'll do better than last week?

Soon to be joining in...I just ordered.  I've been looking at this for awhile, and being that I decided to give up my gym membership ($65/month) and not do bootcamps ($250 for 4 week sessons) to save money, I'm going to try this out.  Main focus is to drop the rest of my weight and tone up seriously before my wedding (and I hope to still incorporate some cycling and running)
