New user 24 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread papson14 - 2012-11-18 5:32 AM I'm in for IMFL #2 and IM #7. Cool to see a couple of BT'ers in the area. Most of my training will be done indoors for most of the year as my wife is in work-ups for a long long deployment to Afghanistan. Stay at home dad with 4 little one (8,7,5,1) should be interesting. Looking forward to training w all of you and listening to your stories.Good luck and stay healthy. Chris I'm impressed. With 4 kids...like you said, should be interesting. I hope everything will go according to plan. Good luck, see you in PCB. |

Also doing Kinetic 1/2 and Raleigh 70.3, add in Shamrock and Rock-N-Roll VB half marathon and I have a full season ahead! Oh well, you never know until you try, so why not go for it. Jim Welcome, Jim! I've also got IM 70.3 Raleigh on my schedule. See ya there! Alan |

It is a huge deal...but, if you look at it as a puzzle..and each day lay down your puzzle piece, knowing you will eventually enjoy the end result, it isn't quite so terrifying! :D |

Pro 5123 Canandaigua NY | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread tdl1972 - 2012-11-14 11:32 PM I am in! I volunteered at the finish and caught people from 6 to midnight with a 30-minute break before the dance party. This will be my first IM and I am excited!! My current plan is to begin Fink's Intermediate Base in January and loosely follow it for ten weeks, take a full week off and then begin again with the full 30 weeks. For now, I ran a HM last weekend, and plan on a few holiday 5K's for fun. Just bought my first tri bike and I'm in the market for a trainer. Anyone know where I can get a good deal on a KK Fluid Road Machine? If you are still looking, Sunrisetri.com has a sale on the KK trainers. I have 2 70.3's next summer, one in May (Florida) and another in July locally, then an new independent iron distance race in August. This race is about a 20 minute drive from home so it was a no brainer registering for it. The fall is all about IMFL though! |

I am also "terrified" - of what I'm not really sure, but it does become mentally manageable when you think of it as a puzzle. One piece/day at a time. |

Totally agree!! I am a coach and I have a coach! :D I have a question about hiring a coach. What is the difference between hiring a coach and finding a one time fee plan that works with the volumn you want to put in? IMFL will be my first iron distance. I know my goals, limiters, the amount of time I can put in, the sacrifices I will need to make and HR zones. I know how to train properly in my zones. With Google, podcasts and this forum I feel that any question I ask about training could be answered. Right now, I don't know how to justify spending $135+ a month for 6 months on coach. Coaches, I'm sure you get asked this all the time. |

Coaches, I'm sure you get asked this all the time. You have to do what works for you...the benefits of hiring a coach are: accountability, knowledge and experience, an objective eye (my coach can see when I am teetering on the side of overtraining, etc) and then the mental training... Both ways work, it is just what works best for you. |

Member 28 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread like some of yall already mentioned...I got in IMFL online and seconds after the "you're confimred email came", I couldn't decide if I was excited or scared out of my mind! Love the puzzle approach to training and completing an IM. I did hire a coach since this is my first season of 1/2s and an IM .... IMO it's worth the accountability, planning and someone to kick your butt into gear when you don't want to do it yourself.

Love the puzzle approach to training and completing an IM. I did hire a coach since this is my first season of 1/2s and an IM .... IMO it's worth the accountability, planning and someone to kick your butt into gear when you don't want to do it yourself. I was terrified for a whole year before my first IM. Every morning I woke up scared. It was what drove me out of bed at 4:30 to go train. It drove me to consistancy, to get out when it was windy, or raining, or cold. About three weeks before the race, I completed the biggest workout of the plan, and after that I knew I would be able to finish. ( If I remember correctly it was 110 miles on the bike 10 mile run and 4000 yards in the pool.) I followed the BT full IM plan. But the year of shear terror was quite an experience - one I'll never forget. Work, struggle, learn, Enjoy! You only get to have your first once. There were so many first's that year. Don't wish it away. Edited by jashac 2012-11-20 7:01 PM |

I plan to do a couple of sprints and olys in the early part of the year. I doubt I race anything after July except for Augusta 70.3. I'll probably add a couple more short local sprints, but the bulk is there. Hard to believe I've already completed week 1 of my training plan. Picked his brain the whole time going down and coming back to Murfreesboro (TN). First IM for me, as a matter of fact, will be first HIM too, this coming year. Can't wait!!!! I suspect I'll be following your lead a lot this coming year |

Regular 165 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Ill target HIM early/ late such as New Orleans, then Augusta. I also like the Knoxville Rev3 race too since its close to me and a tough course. Will not do any sprints this year but we have a great Olympic in town that is lots of fun (but always scorching hot). Last year I did a sprint 8 wks out from IM Lou and got a grade II calf strain from trying to blow up my old course record -- lesson learned. |
