![]() phoenixazul - 2013-01-14 5:18 AM trigal38 - 2013-01-13 9:56 PM What about getting the flu mist if they're brought to tears thinking about the shots? I know there are some restrictions on who should get the mist, but healthy adults/kids I think are good to get it. It's an up the nose snort rather than the poke. Here's the CDC's page on the nasal spray http://www.cdc.gov/flu/about/qa/nasalspray.htm#vaccinatedI'm so paranoid I barely want to leave the house. I did not get the shot and for no good reason. I was just distracted with other things. My family all refused - kids had screaming meltdowns when I even brought it up. My son and husband both come home from school every day telling me about some kid who came to school with a temp or someone started to feel sick at school and had to be sent home. I spent the weekend cleaning and trying to disinfect my house although I think that is pointless. I could not help myself. Washed both my kids backpacks, school shoes, sheets, pillows, bedding, on and on. I wash my hands so much they are chapped and raw. We have not had it yet but I feel like our days are numbered. ![]() I forgot about the flu mist! I'm actually thinking I may make appointments and just not give them any warning. Surprise, here we are! It is a lot easier to have a screaming meltdown at home than it is out in public. If we can find somewhere that still has the shots. I stopped in Walgreens the other day and they are out unless you are 65 or over. |

My son doesn't mind shots, but he always gets the flu mist and says it's no big deal at all. He hasn't had any kind of adverse symptoms from it, either. |

![]() We got the last 3 shots at the clinic this morning. Fingers crossed we're not too late. The kids in my neighborhood are reporting stomach flu and fever and some have even had the shot. A little girl that comes to play at my house on Mondays came down with a fever on Thursday. She tested positive for Influenza and she is still running the fever. Now her little sister is showing symptoms and her poor Mother is having a baby tomorrow |

With the flu you are confined to your bed and if you saw a thousand dollars right there outside your window you could not get up to pick it up. Or want to get up.... worst I ever felt was when I had the flu a few years back. Brutal. |

Our pediatrician and many of the clinics around here are out of the vaccine completely and have been out of the mist for awhile now. On Saturday I called all the Redi-Clinic, Take-Care Clinic and the Minute-Clinics within a 20-mile radius. I managed to get my daughter in for a shot on Saturday at Kroger. She is 8 and you would have thought I was trying to kill her...we had to walk to a room in the back of the clinic and I practically had to carry her! And she used her legs/arms to hold onto the door frame. Then she fought with me for about 15 minutes in the room with yelling, crying, etc. I finally convinced her to be still long enough to get the shot. It was quite embarrassing, but I had to laugh. What finally convinced her? A trip to Toys R Us to spend $20 on a new toy. Horrible, I know, but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do! The clinic would only administer to kids 7 & up, so I have to go through this tomorrow afternoon with my 4-year old son. I should make DH do it, after having to go through the tantrums with my daughter! |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() News headlines in Australia today - deadly flu virus on its way - already killed however many in the US. Now I feel I have to get us vaccinated....I'm a sucker for scaremongering. |

My kids didn't even cry and my son, who pitched the biggest tantrum about not getting the shot, volunteered to be the first one this morning. I was floored. I'm not sure what came over him except maybe seeing all his friends sick from school for so many days. I bought mine a toy too but I'm cheap. We went to the Good Will and I only spent $1.00 Good luck tomorrow with the 4 year old! |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Weird, no shots, no flu. Two kids haven't had it either. Although Michigan has been hit pretty hard... I'm sure this dooms me for the next couple weeks. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() We are starting to have a few cases among staff coming back from North America. Not everyone seems to have the flu, though. Some no fever but yucky sinus stuff. At any rate, as I have asthma and planning to travel to some remote areas over Tei, I made an appointment to get the shot on Friday. Apparently there isn't a panic run on vaccine here....yet. |

I got my shot first and the needle didn't hurt, but damn, it hurt when she started to inject the vax. And my arm is sore! But, I just smiled and told my 4-year old that it wasn't bad at all. He cried a bit and said he didn't want the shot, but he was much more cooperative than my 8-year old! He wailed for about 2 minutes during/afterwards, but was fine after that. I am going to have to get more familiar with my local Goodwill! That's a great idea! Luckily, the toy he wanted was only $10...much better than thr $20 I spent on DD! |

I'm sure this dooms me for the next couple weeks. I'm in Michigan too and have been paranoid with everyone at work and the gym sick around me. I still didn't want to get the shot though and would rather just treat the symptoms homeopathically in the event I do get it. But I haven't had the flu in about 20 years and never had the shot so I figured my paranoia was unfounded. In a twist of events, I picked up a common cold virus this week, first virus in maybe 2-3 years. I just feel a little off and sound raspy like Stevie Nicks so I can live with it and hope it boosts my immunity like my own alternative version of the flu shot |

http://well.blogs.nytimes.com/2013/01/16/how-exercise-can-boost-the-flu-shots-potency/?hpw Interesting, I did an intense 50 min cycling workout about 5 hours before my shot. I wonder how that would test? |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() uh-oh.... woke up today extremely tired. Sitting here at work the past few hours, I've started to get strange muscle aches in lower back & shoulders, no appetite, and lethargic. No fever, but slight headache, and feeling really parched. Please don't let it be.... |

![]() Sitting here at home with a sick little boy and remembered this thread. Yes, the flu has impacted us. My son was hit hard last night and has not moved off the couch all day today. My husband sent me an email today that out of my sons class of 21 students only 8 made it school today - the rest are home with the flu. Boom, just like that, almost an entire class overnight. |
