Yeah, I'm just not even sure if I'm really enjoying training as much anymore either. Part of it is an uphill battle with my body type. I guess the best way to describe it is this - when I started swimming I loved it! I just loved it and I still do. I don't want to swim 3000 yards a day, but I still love getting into the water a couple of times a week. Even though I'm not built for swimming per say and I will never be "fast", I've been doing it so long that I'm not bad. I guess I was kind of hoping for that with tris - but I just don't think I'll feel the same about bike training as I do other stuff. Plus I like strength training, so ya know ...

Hehe, my doc told me this morning that I need to start doing some minor, but very specific strength training things to get this hip situation under control. Wonder what the BT "experts" would say to that one

Bahhhh - Who cares?? Do what you want to do. I like a lot of the folks that have that opinion on weight training, but I don't take what they say as gospel, even though they may be faster than me. The beauty of this sport is that it is an enhanced time trial for me - I race against the clock. I set a goal for myself and I go out and try to beat that goal. PERIOD. If I am the fastest guy out there in my age group that day - Not likely - so be it, but I don't really care. I am out there for me and someone else - and the army. Everyone else can spit - frankly - because it is about us.

You want to lift some weights - lift some weights. You want to ride at 16 MPH avg vs 20 - do it - make it up on the run or swim. I ride a bike pretty fast - I'm not all that smart and I like speed so I don't get scared of it - but I run slower than most. Do I stress over it? Hell no - I try and work on it to get myself faster - but that is for me - not because I am worried about where I finish amongst the 40-45 male crowd. That's a competitive division with a lot of experience. I am racing against the 40-45 males from Urbandale that live at my address on my street. If I got caught up in where I finished in the division - I would have stopped after my first two races. This week I am racing a duathlon. Competitively, it is a stupid decision. I am not a fast runner - but I wanted to race one this year, so I am going to race one. For me.

I think wurkit was being a bit tongue in cheek about the ST.  I know I was.  How are you doing this morning jd?

Hehe, absolutely Plus, if a doc or PT recommends it specifically for rehab and to alleviate an injury, that's different than "strength training to make you fast". I just couldn't help but snicker

Mmmm...snickers...

I had a snickers, oreo blizzard yesterday. So tasty. There are people who enjoy ST for the enhanced muscle definition - and I'm okay with that.

Oh, I so don't care what other people do with their tri training. If they lift weights and they are faster than me, I say, good for them.

I can't remember my pin for something.  I'm annoyed.  Usually I use one of a set, but not this time.  What was I thinking?

I don't know, but it happens to the best of us.  Sometimes I think there are too many things that require passwords and pins.  When I was younger, I couldn't believe that people would write that kind of info down, now it makes so much more sense to me - there's just too much to remember.

I am good - except the day is flying by and there is something wrong with my scanner - but otherwise - good things.

My best friend was here from Jacksonville this weekend and we went out Saturday night and drank too much, told stories and lies and laughed a lot.  It was good.

So I am thinking I might try to rally a group for work to run this 10K that I did last year with the VAMDDCBTTC peeps - a few folks from work did it last year. But I want to see how many folks we can get. Hope it works. People in DC are commitment-phobes...we have an intranet board where we can post stuff like that - it's pretty much empty, but it won't be for long Any suggestions/incentives to get people to do it? Beyond the basic "it's good for you" crap? The race isn't a fundraiser for anything, that I'm aware of, beyond whatever the sponsoring corporation does with some of the proceeds - ie, it's not like the Susan G. Komen races where you can gather pledges, or fundraise individually or anything. It's just a race.

Are you trying to get work people to do it?  See if they'll pay for a dinner or something before or after or something for people who do it.

Yes, work folks - like a little "Team [Corporation Name Here]" kind of thing. Not with tee shirts or anything...but maybe. Our HR girl has started doing a few clinics about health and wellness and we are having a wellness fair on the 19th with the Health Insurance company doing free screenings and stuff like that. So I thought this might be a good follow-up.

A group at my husband's company did their first tri this summer and trained together.  The company paid for membership in the tri club.  Free food is always good.  Tshirts seem to be standard, but not something I would really care about.

Yeah, food would be good. I dunno - I might try to talk to the HR chick about it and see what she thinks. She tried to get a group together to do the Susan G Komen 5K awhile back, but she didn't reallly talk it up much, so no one did it. I'd just need her to pull the strings to secure the free food (or money to reimburse a post-race outing), and I could handle the organization/basic training tips, etc.

I'm not quite sure what's happening with my homework.  See, this is why I need tri's: so I don't spend all my time spinning my wheels on stupid problems.  I'm off to swim and then head to class.  You kids have fun.

Had to go see the ex to get an insurance check signed. You better believe that I made sure she saw my newfound thinness/hotness...

"Hey. Sign this."

"Okay, is that all?" *signs*

"Yep."

"Okay, bye."

What a lovely meeting...

epic lulz

Just as an FYI, 2goggs is alive and well.  Just met him for lunch and dropped him off at the train to go back to the city.

He will have some very interesting reports when he gets home and gets online.
