Havajava - 2011-07-21 8:22 PM I fractured my foot and the ligaments chipped a piece of bone. I have no words. Unless I have a miracle I won't be able to run in two weeks.

OH GOSH NO!!!!!

I've had to pull out of three races this summer (so far) due to my knee meniscus injury.  I'm really sorry about your injury...I know EXACTLY how you feel.

Remember, though...triathlon is a lifestyle.  You're still young and have plenty of races in the future.  Just do what the doctor tells you to, and give it a go next year.

Good luck Bobby & George! Tomorrow is YOUR day!!! Know that we will all be following & cheering you both on. I will be thinking about you guys and your commitments as inspiration to keep myself moving in my sprint tomorrow. I am excited and ready to GET IT ON!!!!!I do regret that I let life get in the way both on Thursday & Friday for me - absolutely no training either day. I am itching to go for a ride/run/swim ....something today but the advice seems to be nothing on the day before. Not sure how much truth that holds if you skipped the 2 days before that also.I will most likely do a couple mile easy jog later today & try to hit the sack early tonite.Anyone else racing this weekend?

Bobby's out of the water and onto the bike in 1:12:46...that's 1:42 pace which I think is right about where he wanted to be.

I can't find Bobby or George's last name or number - anyone know them?Finished my sprint today. Not the finish I was hoping but as I have been told DFL > DNF> DNS...so I will take it and learn from it. Race report later but summary would be that I gashed my foot open at the start of the swim...despite this I think I gained more than 4 mins from last time. I don't think a gel at the start of the bike combined too well with the salt water I swallowed - I lost them both about 2 miles in on the bike. After that I couldn't get to feeling well again. Drank too much water/ gatorade trying to rehydrate the rest of the race and stayed bloated the whole way. Very miserable feeling. But I did finish and I wil take it and realize working on nutrition is a very important part of this racing.

Bobby's bib number is 1385...and he's on the run.  6 hours and change on the bike...not too shabby, huh?

I couldn't find George's last name or number so I don't know if it's possible to find him.  You can't search on first name and state.

So finally, after about 7 weeks of doctor visits, multiple x-rays, an MRI, and a cortisone shot, I'm scheduled for arthroscopic  surgery next Monday.  Should be in and out of surgery in 15-20 minutes I'm told, and they don't even put you under, just that twilight happy stuff.  I should be home by 9 a.m. and I'm sure I'll have some interesting things to post.

So...that will put the official last nail in the coffin for this year's tri season, because I probably won't be cleared to even start running until mid-September.  I might shoot for a late-fall 5K, but I figure the single most important thing is to get the knee 100% so I'm ready to start my training on January 23, 2012 for Eagleman 70.3 next June.

So this week I'm going to swim a whole bunch and continue my weight training so I can maximize my conditioning going into the surgery.  Then it's a week of doing nothing and then PT.  I HOPE I can swim once the incisions heal up, but we'll see what Dr. S. says about that.

I cannot say enough how great it has been to have been part of this mentor group; I have learned so much about training, life balance, etc. from all of you and am really inspired by our resident Ironfolks.  I will continue to live vicariously through you all as we head into the late summer and fall race seasons.

WOO HOO!  Aren't we the lucky mentor group to have so many ironmen in it!!! Congrats to both Bobby and George and hopefully you both are resting up and enjoying the endorphin rush associated with becoming an... IRONMAN!!

Congrats to you too John!  You are absolutely correct better last than not at all! I love when I start a triathlon and am struggling in the swim - I love to remind myself that more than 1/2 the population is back at home snoozing - but you were out there getting er done!!!

I ended up driving up for a local sprint and it was a good race.  I had some tummy issues but nothing that really hindered my performance.  I'm a wee bit disappointed that my results are EXACTLY the same as last year.  But I think last year I took a week off to taper and wasn't doing near the volume I am doing now and so maybe I have improved - but I'm just too tired to be able to see the improvement!!

Sounds as though things are moving along Mike and hopefully you'll be on the road to recovery soon.  2012 will be the year of Mike.  When you feel yourself getting down - just think of my cute little puppy and know it could be worse - he's getting FIXED on Thurday

Mike, I hope your surgery goes well and your knee gets back to 100% quickly.  Great thing about today's arthroscopic surgery is it is less-evasive, precise, effective, and has a quick recovery time.  Wishing you all the best Mike.  Based on your motivation and enthusiasm alone, you truly deserve to be back training and racing at 100% capacity within a few short months.  God-Speed Recovery

THANK YOU TO EACH AND EVERY MEMBER IN THIS GROUP!!! YOU ARE ALL AWESOME AND INSPIRED ME!!!  I was executing the perfect race until mile 125 ; 12 miles into the Run.  I hit a dark patch for the next 10 miles and I really used the positive vibes of this group to help push me through.  THANK YOU GUYS and GALS!!
