Hit a car yesterday on my way home. Car pulled out from a stop sign in front of me, I locked up the brakes and slid sideways into the passenger door hitting it with my left arm and leg. Had a fairly excited conversation with the driver.

Fortunately no damage to myself or the bike but I almost pee'd on the bike for the first time.

my biggest fears while riding.  I am sure that conversation was heated.  glad you're ok.

Same here!  Glad you're OK!

Does anyone have any suggestions on fun local things to do after the race?  We're going to be staying until Wed in Spokane.

It might not be a bad idea to try and pack in a few extra calories during the first hour or two.

That's something I haven't heard before and it makes sense...thanks for the tip!

Any thoughts on what to wear on the bike?  I'm planning on wearing my kit start to finish.  Sleeves, Jacket, or dry bike jersey for the ride?

Last year it was in the high 50's at the beginning of the bike and I was afraid I would be cold (I live in Atlanta where it had been 90* since April) so I wore a bike jersey over my tri top, arm and knee warmers and a light pair of gloves. I stopped at mile 40 of the bike and took all but the jersey off. I probably didn't need the knee warmers at all, but I was sure glad to have the gloves and toe warmers the first hour on the bike since I was still thawing out from the swim.

Dallasceliac-check out Wallace, ID after the race. It's a small town off I-90 going toward Montana and there are some really cool little shops there to look around in and a bar/restaurant (13 Saloon) that serves a great buffalo burger if you like that sort of thing.

Wondering if there are any updates on the water temperature?  For those of you who have done this race or other cold water races are you cold getting onto the bike or does the adrenalin warm you up?  I am like a popsicle at the best of times so a little worried about being very cold in the water despite the suit and cap and then getting on he bike shivering.  Thanks in advance for the input!

Paula

Water temp crept above 55 yesterday,  down to 54 this morning.  I wouldn't stress too much about it at this point as even a couple days of sunny, warm weather will warm the water up quickly.  The first year I raced here the water was about 57-58 a week before the race, the weather warmed up and by race day it was 64 degrees.  If you do find yourself shivering after the swim, there are warming huts available that are heated to about 95 degrees and you can sit in there for T1 if you want.  Everyone train safe!

My friends who did the race last year bought mens dress socks and cut the ends off, used them as throw away arm warmers.  Most of them dumped them at the first aide station but were happy to have them the first 10 miles.  I plan on doing the same thing.

Great idea!  I was going to use arm warmers and then tuck them into the back of my shorts but this is an even better idea.

100+ hot windy miles in West Texas on Saturday followed by 17.5 mile run Sunday morning.  One more hard week before my taper........I am a bit jealous of everyone who is starting theirs this week!

That bubble wrap idea sounds great. My last really long workout yesterday, and those squirrels were on a mission to get me! Luckily no crashes. Even though I'm in official taper mode, I looked at my week of workouts and it still looks long. I'll be arriving Thursday afternoon and staying till Tuesday.

How deep is this taken? Anyone know? At my lake the water at my knees is really cold, but almost warm when swimming on top.

Left Asia 30+ hours ago and finally arrived here in CDA to acclimate (mainly to that frigid lake water).  Looking forward to getting the bike put together and to get some of the cobwebs out of my head/body. Cool

Woot woot! Had a greAt week running and my long ride was 90 miles with 7200 ft of climbing so i am feeling confident about the bike course. Didnt swim as much as i had planned but thats ok.
Super excited! One more week of peak training then i get to do taper too ;0)
Cant wait to finish my first ironman and seek some redemption since St George 2012 kicked my bootie.

Welcome to CDA pappy! Sorry for the weather welcome but give it a couple days and it'll clear up. Had my swim workout cut short by 1500 yards tonight due to thunderstorms in the area. Not a good time to be messing with workouts!

I got a couple questions what are folks thoughts on wearing those bootie's?

and did anyone post any info when they are touring the bike course?

I will drive as my wife would like to see where I am riding but would like to follow a group and be able to stop a couple times so I could ask the folks who are familiar with the course some questions.

Sent you a PM about the bike course.  As for the booties, I wore them in '08 and don't know that I would again.  It seemed like the created quite a bit of drag.  If you do wear them, make sure they're tucked well up under your wetsuit.  Speaking of, I have 2 extra pairs of size large and 2 extra pairs size small if anyone is interested in trying them at the practice swims.

arriving in Spokane late on the 20th.  should be in CDA mid morning on 21st.  back to spokane on the 25th and flying out on the 26th.  Is there any sort of night life in Spokane or will we be tearing up the local Chili's bar?????  We'll probably see you guys at the swims on Friday and Saturday.

Regarding the booties, i also used them in 08.  Definitely will not wear them again.  It feels like you are dragging something behind you.

kenbert61, I can't remember what day/time a drive was scheduled, I know I can drive late afternoon Thursday or Friday mid morning. I don't know the ins and outs of the course as well as some but, I have ridden it, and driven it a few times. I was hoping to be part of a caravan of vehicles that didn't have me in the front but, I can do it if needed.docfish, define nightlife. There are lots of cool places in Spokane, Post Falls and CDA depending on what you are thinking.

nightlife - we've got about 12 guys from south florida making the trip to CDA.  we'll be looking to get rather drunk on Monday night.  seems like overloading with a high carb alcoholic drink should help soothe sore muscles. we'll take any suggestions.

1:00 Friday afternoon was the time planned previously I believe.  Hopefully that'll work for all who would like to go along.  If another time works better for some, no worries.

We can meet at the Memorial Field parking lot just North of City Park (you can't miss it, large wooden bleachers) and go from there.  My truck is full at this point but as many as would like are welcome to follow along.
