Cyclocross seems to be growing really fast.  They just had a pretty large event here last weekend.

I saw them setting up some kind of event in the park next door to my office and found out it's a HUGE cycle cross event!  Cool.  They start at 4:30 tomorrow and it goes into the night.  May take off early and walk across the street and check it out...

You apparently missed Elaines post....and Chris's follow up.

Apparently, you didn't read either.

She mentioned a super sprint (triathlon) on Thursday.  I'm talking about a Cyclecross event tomorrow.  Sheesh.

Whatever....this is why no one likes you.

Almost.  The kido family and mrs kido like me enough!

"No one on BT..." would probably be more accurate...

Cyclocross is bad-azz fun. 40 minutes of pure, sweet hell. I have never hurt so badly after a race as I have when I had a decent cross race. It's great for strong, sprinter types as it's lots of accelerations and power and not like triathlon endurance.

Plus, having a cross bike opens up so many biking possibilities.

I had a heck of a time trying to explain it to a friend I was walking with at lunch.

He asked if it was mtn biking.  Nope, off-road, but with road bikes...  and he looked at me funny.

I then told him they also build short walls and steps you need to get off your bike and run over...

It really is a weird conglomeration, but cool.  Steeplechase on two wheels?

With a light bulb moment I realized something:  A little short of a year ago I saw a running path at the park that weaved all around and it struck me as odd at it's randomness.  Also, no one ever ran on it so I wondered how it got there.  After 6 months, it finally grew over with grass  Then today when I saw them setting up today and realized what made the path last year.

I always had a slight interest in it.  Excuse to get another bike!  I had a couple cyclecross guys approach me to take it up saying I was built for it more than road biking.  Which is probably true.

However, I'm not really built for ANY endurance sports - but in my stupidity, do them anyway.

As a side note.  I'm feeling sad and tired today.  I really just want to go home and nap or something.  Hard to keep the spirits up...  I know a couple people around me with colds so maybe one is sneaking up on me and wearing me down?

Kido - What are the temps like where you are?  Seems warm for cyclocross, but we are getting rain finally, so this would be a great day for a cross event.  I think they have them in Omaha, but I have never been to them as they are usually on days when I am working.

Still have your hardtail? Those are OK in the Cat4 races.

It's like crack: first hit's free. Then you're a junky.

90's in the day, 70's at night.  It's a night race tomorrow.   First race starts at 4:30 and is under the lights after it gets dark.  But it will be warm for them - especially the first races.  Elite starts at 8.  It's still warm (low 80's) then, but not miserable, especially with the sun down.

It's actually 100 right now.  At this  point of the year, I'm pretty much over the heat.  I like fall weather a lot, especially when football starts.

Good morning, TAN.

Happy RIOW!

The gf is off on another roadtrip, so I'm dog sitting, again.  She is off to Vermont to do a Spartan Beast and complete her Spartan Trifecta.  I'm kinda envious, and also super impressed.  I had no idea before her doing them that they are as intense as they are.  The effort level, in terms of time, is every bit in the range of a HIM.  That's a LONG time to be doing obstacles!

Hope y'all are well.

Cord, Tony and another BTer are coming to town tomorrow as well.  Maybe we could all meet for a drink or something.  I'm playing it by ear since they are.  I'll just catch up with them between their debaucherous activities.

I plan on watching the Super Sprint Tri, then meeting up with them... or meeting up with them beforehand if they want to watch the race, too.

We should definitely meet up at some point! I'm driving, so I'll have my car.

I wish I could trade you something for swing lessons.

I have been working my arse off all summer and probably getting WORSE.  Also, I seem to get contradictory information where ever I look.  purely rotational by some where the arms follow the shoulders.  Others say a shift/bump to the target (which feels more normal/powerful to me).  Sean Foley says keep weight on the left to help, others say a weigh shift to back then shift the front.  Some say keep head still and I watch videos of swings and some pros do, others will move it 2-3" towards the target. Some say unwind, others say chest moves forward and opens.  One legged drill, tee the ball up forward of the left foot and "go get it" drill to practice moving forward (but if you do that, the head moves forward, so goes against the rule of head still)... I don't get it.

I FINALLY figured out how to swing "easy" after a day of topping almost 300 balls on the range.  I would get angry and hit harder and arms tense up and "shorten" - and the topped shot.  I seriously almost gave up the game that day and I JUST bought some new clubs (what a waste since my swing sucks)

I try pulling down, swinging around, high finish, high back swing, on plane, flat wrist, bowed wrist...  I SWEAR I can hit the ball anyway I'm told, but not consistently.

The most infuriating sport EVER.  Nothing has been this hard for me.  I almost wish for the old days when I was a hacker.  I would go out and just hit the ball and it would go basically where I wanted it to most of the time.  NOW?  I'll hit 1 of 20 so flush and think this is the way to do it, but the other 19?  SO bad I can't even go on the course.

I figure when it finally "clicks" I'll think "how come it took this long to figure out"...

agreed.  i'm so tired of marathon training.  i'm just bored of it and over it.  never again.  i'm going to stick to sprint tris next year, minimal training needed.

x3...

I'm over the long stuff.  I think a 30-60 minute workout is fun and feels good.  Over that?  Starts to feel like a grind.  Unless it's something unique like MTN biking or a group ride where the time flies.

Honestly, I need to get back into team sports.  I like reacting to the moment to keep the mind in it rather than zoning out and just going.  Maybe that's why I like MTB..  You have to stay focused.  What I DON'T like is the 30 minutes there and back.  So a 90 minute ride takes 2.5 hours.

Maybe I should sell everything and move to CA like the wife wants.  Just pop over to the beach and surf and play V-ball.  Hit the MTB trails on the weekend.

Another thing, I HATE the gym.  I'm an outside guy.  I'm inside all day with work and at home.  I don't get the appeal of going to a gym and being inside in a stinky/sweaty gym on top of it.

But I'm obsessed over it right now.  I always liked it, but it's crazy now.  Watch it all the time on TV.  Play Tiger Woods Golf.  Read everything I can, watch video and instructions shows.  Probably too much.  I should just go out and relax and play.

i love the gym but during nice weather i much prefer to be outside.  i'd like to do some crossfit or dance classes again, keep my running fitness up, group rides for fun, etc.  just need more variety in my workouts.

Training our bodies to work efficiently in Zone 2 will help us keep our HR and pace even throughout an Ironman. This theory would hold true for the bike and run portion of an Ironman race.
