New user 669 Madrid | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society (BDAS) - Open Originally posted by firebert Keeping up with Paris-Nice. I love pro cycling! Also watching the first round of the ITU World Championships. The cool thing is that since its Oly distance - people are actually qualifying for their countries for Rio. But - no aero bikes or helmets. It's like the pro peloton out here. What gives? Oh yeah also - damn can they swim. 1k in a little more than my 400 time - lol. Alan is right, TV audience love circuits, but not us! In Spain -by the way, the two winners at this last ITU race were from Spain- now you can only use a tri-bike in HIM or full IM, not even those little adapters you clip on the race bike. The reason is to reduce accidents. But agree with you all, prefer longer distances and individual effort, like the videos that we could watch in YouTube from IMTelevision: after watching those 30 min shows, I would go out an do a PR. Yesterday back from Palm Spring, only was able to do a 12k run, but weather was even too hot, soooo nice. Today in Madrid, 90k bike ride, the best cure for jet lag. May be Terry you would agree with me. Juan |

Love how they got snowed out yesterday LOL. Wednesday and Thursday for me were 60 minutes on the trainer followed by a 15-20 run outside - had to enjoy the 75+* weather! This morning was a relatively short, but brutal trainer session where I hit a 30" PR @ 417 watts (virtual power - so take that with a grain or a teaspoon of salt ). Lunch swim with my daughter, who has her Jr. Championships meet this weekend. So awesome that I'm getting 30-second PRs, 'cause that's so useful in triathlon. :-/
Why don't you try a bike race? I've been toying with the idea...did a couple of 40K time trials last year (yeah, I know that's not really a bike race). The whole crash thing gives me the willies to be honest. |

Extreme Veteran 1648 | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society (BDAS) - Open Hi Everyone! I've been on a slack fest - but thankfully I had a 5k today to kick my butt. I hit 29:47 which is prefect for how little training I've done- and better than where I was last year at this time! Alan, sounds like you should come for a training week in Boulder. The BMC guys often ride loops by the barn my horse lives at. You also can see tons of pro athletes balancing babies on their hips! It's pretty inspirational. |

Thank goodness for calf sleeves!! I have decided to start the Ironfit HIM training plan. There is still a very slim chance I could go to Egypt in May, but I'm tired of the wait and see approach to this season! monday morning is go time!! |

Expert 1662 Spokane, WA | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society (BDAS) - Open Originally posted by MOlsen On the beer side of things I was able to enjoy a very good IPA from Firestone called Luponic Distortion. Each batch will have a new blend of hops and the beer is brewed to highlight them. The approach is "enjoy the flavor of the hops without being overly hoppy / malty" and boy does it taste good. Mark Good info. I like their jack and double jack very well. Ill look for this one at the local superstore Edited by kevinbe 2016-03-12 7:34 PM |

Finished up week 5 of my plan strongly this morning with a 2.5 hour 40 mile ride. The plan called for half that, but I am improvising some things as this is meant for me to peak at Olympic distance in May but my real goal is the HIM in August. I want to get used to time spent on the bike, make sure I'm comfortable, etc... I'd rather find this out sooner than later. And there's something to be said for a Sunday ride along the coast. Hope everyone is having a great weekend. -Matt |

No matter how you do in your first HM it will be a personal record! In the topic of HM's, number 2 for the year is in the books! I will write up the race report tomorrow. Long story short, good 2:05 run through beautiful green Paso Robles wine country. On my way home I picked up some more Luponic from Firestone (driving by the brewery, had to stop) to celebrate. |

Not only will it give you some cushion if an injury will occur but if you can keep it up throughout your training - you will be that much stronger on raceday. I'm in a similar boat. My IM training plan called for 30 minutes today - I did 50. I figure it can't hurt. WHat's the word on the season opener? Really hoping we can pull it off. You could stay at my place. My son has a queen size bed and his room doesn't smell like dirty socks. Give it some thought. One of these days we will have to make it happen. If not this year - some other time. |

Life is crazy right now - things keep coming up and the job search is sucking up my time. It seems like I owe Karma some big kind of debt. But I will try to do a better job signing on regularly because being with you guys/ladies makes me happy! OH yea - and I have a race this week that I will do with John even if we have to walk the thing. Hope you all are well and drinking good beer. Yesterday I sat out in the sun at a Brewery in Worcester - Wormtown.... It was good for the soul. Need some help - The bearings on my rear axle are going. What should I do about this. Also, I broke my first spoke (rear tire). Is there a cheap way to fix this. God, not having a job sucks sometimes. Thanks, DQ |

1007 DeLand, Florida | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society (BDAS) - Open Congrats Mark and Kate on the races this weekend!! Thanks all for the support on the injury. I've been largely injury free for a year and a half at least, something had to give - lol. It's sloooowwwly getting better this week - lots of icing and stretching (sounding like the trainers in HS). I really hope to be able to run Sunday and not have to walk! But Dave thank you for the offer to walk with me - that means a ton and the thought of BDASers sticking together instead of racing for themselves has that warm fuzzy feeling to go with it. BTW - the Season Opener - I am IN for the Duathlon. Just need to register. And get my bike to the shop for repair. I think I know what it needs but it's clear, since it's sat all winter in the same condition, that someone else is going to need to diagnose and fix the indexing that I'm unable to get right on my own. Also - there's an indoor traithlon at the YMCA in Franklin on April 24th I'm considering. It's only $40 which is potentially the cheapest tri I've ever seen. I guess indoor requires much fewer workers etc. I believe it's 15 min/ 25 min/ 20 min? 15 minutes straight is a long swim for me at this point (lol) but in a swim lane I can worry a lot less. |

Thanks, DQ I'm not a bicycle mechanic by any stretch of the imagination, but both of those are pretty easy fixes (read: not too expensive). They're also user-possible with the right tools. This is totally third-hand knowledge, so YMMV. |

Expert 4926 Middle River, Maryland | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society (BDAS) - Open Solid start to my week - a quick bike/run "brick" yesterday morning and short pool swim last night. 90' on the trainer at lunch today. Threw in some core work here and there for good measure. So I jumped on the scale yesterday...207!!! Eggads, that's like 12 lbs. over my racing weight. Time to watch what I eat and shed the winter layer. My mystery shin pain seems to have resolved itself, though my vascular surgeon wants to run a vein scan to rule out DVT (I have CVI in both legs - compression socks rock!!!). Hope everyone is having a great week - by beers of choice lately have been Birdhouse Pale Ale and Duckpin Pale Ale (both local Baltimore brews). |

Cheers, AD So far so good Alan! I'm about halfway through the 2nd podcast and it's been awesome. I love 'personal history' stuff like that, where you get the view of someone who was actually there. Especially when it's about something we can all nerd out about - triathlon! |

1007 DeLand, Florida | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society (BDAS) - Open Anyone need racing sunglasses? I'm not allowed to buy expensive sunglasses in my house because I always break them. I was in a pickle last summer, racing my first tri in a pair of scratched up old cheapies. I then found XX2i through one of the banner ads here maybe? Maybe slowtwitch... They sell direct, designed in US made in China stuff. They ship free in the US, have a lifetime warranty, great customer service, and when they're on sale, they're cheap. I'm on my 3rd pair - not 3rd consecutive, I keep finding excuses to buy a new pair so I currently own 3 pairs (one for the bike, one for the car, and one for everything else). They're basically poor man's Rudy Projects. Actually the distro is the same for both companies - RACE (Running and Cycling Enterprises). http://www.xx2i.com/ 3 styles, lots of color choices, and they offer polarized and non-polarized. And readers, but no prescription option. For that you need to spend the big bucks at Rudy or Oakley. I have one of each style (France1, France2, USA1). Two are polarized and one is not. I haven't paid more than $50 for a single pair, and actually the non-polarized may have been like $20. They come with a nice case and a bag that's made out of lens cloth material. They work great on the bike and run - no teary eyes on the bike even at 30mph! Anyway right now is one of the specials they run, 50% off retail (retail is $60 non-polarized, $100 polarized). I like the polarized ones but in all honesty the non-polar ones are so sharp and clear, I wonder if you need polarized for running/cycling. They didn't say I can't post the code, and also if you want to get them just sign up for the email list. Good through 3/20 at midnight STPATTY Edited by firebert 2016-03-15 2:02 PM |

I am hoping it's b/c I am building muscle, but think I also need to pay more attention to what I'm putting into my body. I logged in to MyFitnessPal today to get back to tracking. Yay... I had two great workouts yesterday, one at my gym and a good vball match in the evening. Felt it a little in my foot afterwards. I was going to do yoga today (and lord knows my hamstrings need it badly), but I might just foam roll this evening and give the foot another break (some of the balancing stuff puts a lot of pressure on my foot, and I think downward facing dog stretches my foot funny). |
