OH....I sooooo hope you are right about that.  I get Versus but I had read that it was going to be on...I think...NBC Universal Sports Channel...which I don't get.

I still don't have a way to record it yet so if anyone is going to burn a DVD of all this inspiration I would be glad to pay for a copy.  Really don't believe there is ANYTHING more inspirational for me than watching one of these and helping me to get my a$$ out the door to do a long bike/short run brick on a cold day.

Training/Recovery question:

I love chocolate milk as a recovery drink and I realize the faster you get it into your body the better....Question is this:  After what period of time is it just not worth it in terms of effectively helping your recovery?  45 min., 1 hr.?

The reason I ask is that some of the places I run/workout it is difficult to get back to my apartment in less than 1 hour.  I know that during this time of the year I can just pre-mix some and take it with me but as the weather warms up I feel the need for the drink more and the thought of having some milk in the truck for a couple of hours is not appealing.

I am certainly not opposed to stopping at a Snatch & Grab-It and buying some but as my workouts start getting to 5-6 times a week...well lets just say that I am NOT in the average Tri salary range that I have read to be somewhere in the $140,000- 150,000 range.

Just wondering what the MG thought.

Thanks

Steve

I thought it was between 15 mins and 30 mins for best results.

Hey Steve

I am not sure if they have these things in the south, but they are called coolers......Laughing.    When I have a workout and I know I won't make it home within the 30 minute window, I take an 8oz Fuel Belt bottle full of chocolate milk and stick it in my Igloo with a coulpe of ice packs.  It is worth it to drink it later?  Sure, but you will slow recovery time because the uptake will be slower.

That is EXACTLY what I remember too.  I'm just trying to find out a what point am I just drinking yummy chocolate milk instead of gaining some recovery benefits.

Hey guys:

I'm back. I notice that they're doing the 2010 mentor groups. I hope I'm still welcome on here.  Okay I had a long hiatus.  Two months of clinical depression kicked my butt and guess what?  I found that doing triathlon gave me something to focus on, a goal, and was just a great sport to be involved in and usually made me feel much better.  Umm, so yes, Wildflower 1/2 Iron for me. In May.

Two months of depression = 15 pounds piled on.  *hides* and loss of muscle mass.  *sigh*

But now I have something to look forward to.  People tell me I'm inspirational so that helps me get off my butt too.  Maybe I needed the break to clear my head about the future and direction?  But I surely did not need the depression and 15 pounds . Argh!  I'm like a big fattie over here waddling around (I feel really uncomfortable).  So I only have four months to get ready for a half iron.  Sigh.  Figure I need to do two hours of cardio a day just to get this weight off.

Anyway, I wanted to ask you guys a question.  Of course!  I have Christmas money and I want two things:  a trainer and a HRM.

I saw the 305 on sale forever at Amazon during the holidays but did not buy it.  Why?  That things is huge.  Frankly, I am afraid of it.  No really.

Plus, I wanted something that I could wear during the day as a regular watch.

Wanted the 310, but that is also huge - and orange. Ick. (I am sooo a girl.)

Saw the FR60 and with trijungle having 25% off right now I can get the bundle with the footpod for 150 with free shipping.

But it doesn't count calories... :-(

So I am thinking of the 405....is it too big to wear during the day?  Is it true that its HRM sucks?

I don't want to plop down cash on some sucky thing. :-)  Is it true that the bezel will make my life hard?  Does it have a regular watch function? I can't even tell.  I see that the FR60 does, but again no calories.

Sigh...why can't there just be a perfect one that is small, counts calories, accurate HRM, water resistant, GPS, regular watch/alarm function?

I ask a lot it seems. :-)

Best to you in preparing for Wildflower HIM. 15 lbs doesn't seem too bad. I'm sure you can widdle it away with good training.

I would look at a 310XT over the 305 or 405. I have seen the 405 and know that it is hard to control the button. The 305 is a good deal at about $150 but the battery doesn't last long, it's not waterproof. I think the FR60 is a good watch/HRM and for $150 with the foot pod is a good deal, you don't get GPS but the footpod can give you distance info indoors or out.

What trainer are you thinking of getting?

Welcome back.....personally I have the Garmin 305 and love it.  I bought the new version, but went back to old my old one.  It is comfortable, has all the features you need and uploads to Training Peaks if you use that.  Plus the price can't be beat right now.  Major downside is you cannot use it for swimming, but the 310 doesn't pick up a signal well so the water resistancy doesn't serve much of a purpose to me.

I just had a really cool moment..kind of a once in a lifetime thing. No not eating all the chinese food i scarfed down....
was running in the community with my wife and B-I-L. Canada's prime Minister lives in our community. We were running down the street where he lives. A bunch of security guys were out on the street, and we came upon a few of them who were out walking with the PM. As we got closer one of them say " Sir, joggers on your right." We ran passed them and he said hi to us. Was neat. Us Canadians can get that close to our guy.

MERRY CHRISTMAS MG!!!!!

reindeer food down these parts is oatmeal, rice, and brown sugar.  as you get older you forget the correct ratios.  fortunately the children always know it.  so they get to make it.

hope ya'll have a wonderful day!  its ~35 degrees here.  gonna sneak out for a quick 5 miler shortly.

Ours has always been oatmeal and glitter...to help the reindeer find their way to the house.  My 7 year old brought home a new concoction from school that had some giant reflective stuff in it.  He spread the whole bag on the front lawn.  Usually we just spread some on the front porch and then I go out after the kids are nestled all snug in their beds to clean it up.

Just so I am clear....do you have to go outside and pick all the reindeer food up so your kids think it was eaten?  Or do the fireants take care of it?

Endurance Ride done....I swear to God Steve is trying to kill me with some of the CT rides....the good news lots of calories burned, so lots of calories can be eaten.

Enjoy!

we let the dogs out early.  between them and all the birds there usually isn't much left.   but if there is any, well.... those reindeer couldn't possibly eat all of the food that people all over the world put out.

alright, back to the dinosaurs and dolls.

I second the 305.  I never leave for a run without it.
Was originally concerned with the size and weigth of this one, but the 305 has never bothered me...worn it two years now.   Thought about the waterproof watch, but don't really think it would add much value for me.
