fattyfatfat - 2010-01-09 1:52 PM mmr is incredibly more linear than what any person can possibly run unless you do something like spray paint the mmr path on the ground and follow it. exactly.  every time you deviate from this path the distance increases.  kind of the same reasoning behind people always complaining that courses are long, esp running races.  the course probably isnt long.  the runner did not follow the exact path of the measured course.  now if they are shorter than the course then more flags go up.

All you people who go run and bike no matter how cold it is outside have inspired me... I ran 2.5 miles outside in the 35 degree weather today! Hope everyone's having a great weekend!

You guys are some posting fools.  Just when I think I am caught up there are three more pages!

I am really enjoying getting back into the swing of the workouts.  Got out of bed early today and headed to the pool.  It was a nice swim (and not as hard as Thursdays) and I can tell I will not take long to get back what I lost in the offseason.

I am experincing a bit of pain in the abs.  I think I might have strained asomething.  Does anyone have any suggestions for good stretches that I can do.  I really do not want this to become a major issue.

Hope everyone has a good weekend and keep up the work.

Also, I think Tif and I are going to break down and get a trainner.  Does anyone have suggestions for where we might find one that will not set up back to much?

Try Craigslist, Ebay and local shops.  Ken got me a Cyclops Fluid 2 and I LOVE it.  Nice and quiet and moves very well.  I'm using it and really appreciate it with these cold temps.  Hoping to build a decent cycling base before the season starts.

I second the craigslist idea.  I was able to pick up a nice fluid trainer for 25 bucks a couple of months ago and just found another one for a buddy of mine for 50.  Craigslist is awesome!

I'm with you! I normally try to keep up with things but was out of it the past couple days getting through work and whatever sickness Betsy brought in the house.  It looks like a lot went down... way to pull the trigger and signup for 2 HIMs Kevin!

Nikki- Good ab stretch is lay on your stomach prop yourself up with your arms, hips on the ground. I know it's called something but can't remember right now...

He's just trying to get into your head, do the same course a few times and see if it comes out the same. If the route has a lot of trees and/or bridges the Garmin will lose lock and approximate some of the course. It's quite possible you're faster... John should be scared

If we are thinking of the same thing, it's called the cobra pose. It's a yoga pose. I agree its definitely a good one for your abs.

My new shoes FINALLY came in on Friday and today was the first time I have had a chance to use them...The track was closed for the Triclub practice ( next year I will join) so i was on the treadmill. No pain, stride felt good, little or no pronation. The best news is that when I got off the motors didn't smell hot or smoking. (A few years ago I was asked to not use the treadmills at a different gym because I was too heavy.) I am going to look at a couple of bikes this week, A local shop has a Jake the snake cyclecross that they will give me a smoking deal on. Not an ideal Tribike but in my range, heavy duty and somewhat multipurpose. Feeling pretty good about myself today... Hope everyone else is having as much fun training as I am.CheersDan

Greetings peeps.  Hope everyone had a nice weekend.  I ran a bit over 6 yesterday.  It was 21* when I headed out.  Brrrrrrr.  Fortunately no wind, so it was manageable - even kind of nice in the sun.  Today I jumped into a new masters swim group in a town a few miles away.  First clue I was in over my head:  90 minute session.  Missed that somehow when I looked up the schedule. Second clue:  3x300 warm-up.  WTF?????? That is almost half of my total swim most sessions!!!  I could barely pull myself onto the pool deck by the time I finished.  The coach was terrific though and gave me some tips that made an immediate difference with respect to body position.  The others in my lane were very gracious and even asked me back next week, although I'm sure it was totally lacking in sincerity.  Too bad.  I'm planning on getting back there every Sunday I can.

Would it be wrong of me to point out I have one more day to my weekend?  I am loving this warm dry training I managed to get this weekend here in Tucson.  I am so moving here (and then I can cross off another goal).  One more day here then back to rainy Oregon (and a 4AM wake up on Tue for masters swim)

Not wrong, but perhaps insensitive.Kiss  Hee, Hee. Seriously, enjoy Tucson.  I love Arizona!!!!  Do visit in July so you can calibrate the summer weather.  I kept oven mits in my car (for touching the steering wheel) during the summer when I lived in Scottsdale.

Yeah, I know summer will be a whole different ball game but I'd rather have a few months of intense heat instead of 8 months of constant rain.  I'll have to remember the oven mitt trick
