Hey everybody!  I have been MIA the last week die to working late and taking a couple of days off from training.  I was at work a few days ago and went up a set of stairs and my left knee popped.  I didn't think much about my knee.  The last few days my knee has been feeling a little weak and I'm trying to let it rest.  I'm gonna try to get back on the trainer today or tonight.  I have been home with the kids toay since we got about 6 inches of snow.

Hope everybody is having a great week!  Almost forgot....GO BEARS !  lol

infu5229 - 2011-01-20 11:00 AM I do not want to change the subject, but I would like to share some awesome news with everyone!

Today is a scheduled off day.  I feel a little head cold coming on, and today is as good as any to hang out at home.

The scale this morning said 259.4!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have not been this light in about 6 years!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you everyone for the motivation.  As I have said before, I feel I am letting you down if I do not do something today to make me a better triathlete tomorrow.

Everyone keep up the fantastic work!

Congrats!  That's gotta feel great!

I hope this isn't a stupid question...   What would I need to buy in order to use my Garmin indoors on my trainer?  I cannot for the life of me find anything. I can only find a bike mount and I don't think that's right.  Also, would it have to be something that's attached?  Thought for spin classes too it would be useful.

I could be wrong, but I've never heard of any type of attachment that would allow the Garmin to pick up the necessary satellite while indoors.

Woohooo!!!! way to go!  keep it up man, it just keeps getting better!

As for the bike size, the fit is the most important thing when selecting a bike. If your bike doesn't fit well, you will not enjoy it. Do some homework, go to a bike store and ask the group lots of questions!

My bad, a quick google search proved me wrong.  If you get the foot pod you can use it indoors.

You would use the foot pod for a treadmill and a speed/cadence sensor for a bike trainer.

ok, i'm going to stop answering questions about the Garmin, because I may have answered incorrectly again Surprised  I really don't know if you can use it on the trainer; the pod will let you run inside, anything else and I have no idea.  I will let someone who actually knows the answer respond!

No, you were right, you're not able to get the satelite indoors.  You use the footpod (for the treadmill) and the speed/cadence sensor (for the trainer) so you can get data that is "close" to what you would have had if you were doing the workout outside.

I suppose a treadmill would suffice indoors, but I've always wondered about the spin bikes.

All week long I've felt as if I've been on the edge of getting a cold...slight sore throat, a bit tired.  Got my workouts in for T, W and today (TH).  If I don't get sick it will be a miracle as 100% of my preschool students have either a cough or runny nose, or both.  I've gotten several "direct hits". (Cough or sneeze delivered into my face at close proximity)  In addition, several of the staff on our team are sick as well.  Taking the Airbourne, drinking water and juice and hoping for the best. I have to attend a conference Friday and Saturday so there will most likely be little to no training, which could be a good thing for my body.   Although sitting for 2 days in a hotel conference room is not my idea of a good time and probably an even worse environment for the catching of new germs.

In a dilemma here ...

Tomorrow morning is supposed to be a run day.  I do my running at 5am outside.  It is supposed to be -3 with a wind chill to -20.  Don't know if I should gut it out and still run or wait until after work when it will be a bit warmer.  I've ran in 6 degree weather but there was no wind.  Has anyone else run when it was that cold.  The temp doesn't bother me so much as the wind chill.

So... To run or not to run ..... That is the question.

Neg degrees is getting pretty darn cold. I've done single digits too but..... Personally I would wait till later in the day if you can.  I like to get my workouts done early if possible but that cold might be dangerous Surprised

Oi, kids and their colds! I have two little ones and keep catching their colds! Here are a couple of cold prevention tips I've picked up  1. gargle occationally during the day with water as hot as you can take it, that kills cold germs that settle in your mouth/throat. 2. Try to avoid touching your face. If you get sneezed on, wash your face and blow your nose to clean the inside of your nose out. It might be a good idea if you're working with young kids to have a pack of wipes around to (subtly) clean your hands/face with intermittently. Good luck surviving the full frontal assault sneezes.

Frigid here too.  No running outdoors when a fall and exposure could be extremely serious.

For colds, I use a neti pot to prevent them  Works wonders.  None but a brief very mild one in more than a year and a half.
I also take a truckload of vitamins.  D, C and B complex to name the pertinent ones.
