erincs - 2013-04-11 6:11 PM I had a bone scan done today on my tibia.  The one I'm having pain in showed 3 bright spots along the inside of the bone!!  Is that even possible?  I see the dr again on Monday to find out what it showed, but I'm really hoping it's nothing.

oh, no....

well, 6 weeks from now you'll still have solid fitness if you do a lot of swimming (when allowed), pool running and progress to the bike only when they say you can...

Stress fractures s*ck! I've been there, done that. (I even did the bone scan on myself to show my own 3 spots...). Really sorry to read this, but it is not the end of the world. 6 weeks is a short time.

Time for nonimpact training for a while-if you do have a sf.

Good luck!

Ugh.  I had one of those workouts.

I just went for a 61 minute run.  After 10 minutes, I was supposed to do two 6 minute pickups in zone 4 with a two minute jog break.  The rest of the run was supposed to be zone 2.

I barely got my heartrate into zone 3 and was running slower than Sunday when I did my long run all z1-2.

It feels like a waste of an hour.  I hate those workouts.

Kent-

You got it done and an hour of training beats an hour of sitting on the couch. Stress and rest lead to progress at times when we don't expect it. You will be better off physically and mentally for getting through this workout.

Your fitness will be tested at another point in training, not today. Today was a training day, not race day.

Hang tough.

Workouts like that suck.  But I think they are good mentally.

Dtoce, thanks.  I've been pool running for almost 2 weeks already.  My run sucks at the best of times, so I'm hopefull that I won't lose too much if I keep up the pool running and add in elliptical once I'm allowed, if it is actually stress fractures.

I received this reply last week from my coach, Mike Ricci. I was explaining about what a terrible week I had. Only one thing went right - I swam 4km for the first time.

"There is no such thing as a bad week. There are good workouts and great workouts. That's it. Any workout is a good one. Sometimes you have a great one. You learn from the good ones though - and you did and you will."

I was almost done with my long ride today when I rolled up onto a bike accident.  There was an ambulance on the scene and the police were with the other cyclist.  I tried not to look but could tell he was in bad shape.  I do not know what happened, but this road is very heavily traveled by cyclists and I always considered it one of the safest on the rout.  Please be careful and aware no matter where you are in your travels and lets all be in Lake Placid July 28th.

erincs - 2013-04-14 5:16 PM Good luck tomorrow, Brian!

yes, Good luck Brian! The weather should cooperate-unlike 2004 or 2012-(I was there in '04 and that was painful). I was in Bawston this weekend looking at NU with DS1 and then we checked out a game at Fenway. Of course, we drank in the marathon excitement and took pics of the finish line. The entire town is buzzing.

I did not think it went as far along Boylston St, but that is what time and delirium do to you.

Have a great race!

Thanks all. Just woke up but apparently it's not race time. Don't expect this will be one of my better nights of sleep. Had a couple beers at dinner, not taking this too seriously and just soaking in the atmosphere. I did get the jacket, pretty nice this year, and at $100 I will likely sleep in it

Brian, good luck today!

Yesterdays training was miserable! Went to the Saratoga Battalefield (10.5m loop).  Had a flat in the back on the first 9 miles, got that changed.  Started my first interval and at about mile 12 got another flat.  Decided to walk the bike back to the truck and really see what was going on.

Found a rock or salt crystal had punctured the tire.  Not having any more spares I wasn't about to risk going back out and ending up 5 miles from the truck.

Went home to finish the ride on the trainer.  10x15' @ 300w.  OUCH!!  Then 4 mile run after.

My legs are pretty toasted after that.

Brian - was just about to post your finish time when I heard the news of the explosions. I just read in the Boston thread that you are back at your hotel and safe. Very relieved to read that.

Bad day all around. Injured at mile 16 at the water station, but all I can feel is numb. Bombs went off while I was in the finish chute. Little kid died and so many good and innocent people hurt. Nothing matters to me but their welfare. It's just a race.

Glad you are ok Brian. My girlfriend and I were in the finish line area as well, as she had just finished too. Still in shock. Safe travels home.

Dave and Brian, it's good to hear that you're both ok.  What a senseless act.  So sad.

Glad to hear you all are safe; I work in Boston, and live in the suburbs, and it seemed pretty horrible.  Did not hear the explosions, but the sirens after... it actually took a bit of time for the news to get out.  Very, very saddening...

[brag]

Weighed in at 209 this morning.  Not bad for 6'6"!

My goal weight for last year was 210 and that got derailed with the crash.  So I'm totally stoked for this year and what I can do....

I'd like to be close to 200 even come 7/28 but we shall see, I can only lose so much at my height without a stiff breeze taking me away.

When I started this journey two years ago I was 262.  ouchie, fattie.
