Speaking of Songs I lost all of mine on my portable harddrive. 1 TB of music all gone.

And my Ipod is Empty I am not sure how I will recover. I attempted to run last night outside in the snow without and ipod and it was miserable I did a whole 3.8km before I packed it in and called it quits. SUCKS

iTunes recover process???? I thought they had one? Like a history of all your purchased songs and they could restore your library... I could be wrong. Or you could not be using iTunes.

They do have a history of the stuff you have bought from them but I don't think they have a history of the other stuff in your library unless it is part of their new cloud features.

I'm pretty sure that if you've paid for a song you can always go in and download it.  I've done that with movies, apps, songs, etc. 

If that fails, Pandora time!  I hardly listen to my itunes anymore.  But I guess you need an unlimited data plan to do that (which I have on my phone luckily).

I was unfortunately I paid for it all but it is under the ex wife's login. I mentioned it to her and she told me TOO BAD. Even though I paid for all of it. GRRRR.

I had about 1-2gb that was not from there. Time to make my own log in and start buying from there. I know what I want for my Bday from my mom now gift card. Bad enough I just got her Ipod too. Because mine seemed to have disappeared about 6 months ago.

It has been since Limewire went down that I went to Itunes. But I am on a budget right now too.

So willing to go back and explore all options right now.

I just no I can't run without music or my brain starts to kick in and wander and tell me I can't I need something to mute my brain.

Pandora is a streaming music app for the phone (also on the internet).  You get a password, search for a band/song/genre and pick a station they already have made.  It plays songs from the band and other bands like it continuously.  you can pause or fast-forward to a next song, but no rewinding and no finding a particular song.

I believe that if you're streaming the music, it shouldn't affect your download limits (Right?)

So, when I say Beastie Boys, it'll find the B-boys, Jay Z, Notorious B-I-G, etc.  When I say Hawaiian Music, it plays mellow guitar/ukulele songs.

Yes, they can.  It's not easy.  You have to go though a request and they will rebuild your PURCHASED library.  They are a bit resistant and will only do it in emergencies, not to just replace a random song...  (so I have read on the interwebz).

Type in any band and it will make a "station".  I have a Pink Floyd station.  It plays a lot of Floyd and the similar genre.

Right since nothing is stored on your phone but the app.
It does affect your data usage though, which is why an unlimited data plan is preferred.  

Love Pandora.  I've about a dozen and a half stations on there to pick from, depending on what mood I'm in.  Pandora + Sonos == whole house sound.

As for rebuilding the library, the ... ummm... "enterprising" geek might look into the use of torrents to reacquire backup copies of legally purchased music.

I just recently played aroud with my DirecTV app on my phone.  It was crazy, I can watch the latest episode of Banshee or Last season of Game of Thrones anytime I want, and quality is pretty freaking good (for a phone).

It's better on the Ipad, but I don't have the Ipad I can connect to cellular, so I need to find a free hotspot to stream.

If your phone is an Android phone, get the FoxFi app and you can set up a hotspot on your phone for free.  Just make sure your phone isn't trying to use your wireless network first, then launch FoxFi.  It'll set up a hotspot that uses your phone's data connection.  

Wow, I will look into that!  I have a phone that can be a hotspot, but I have to pay extra (like 10 bucks a month) from Sprint.  If I can get it for free on the rare occasion I would like to get on my computer or Ipad without a hotspot, that would be COOL.

OK.  So Sprint took it off the google store.  No problem, I installed if from their website with no  problem.  HOWEVER, I have an HTC phone and they have a hotspot lock so FoxFi says use bluetooth.  I'm not sure if my laptop and Ipad have bluetooth?  I think so, but checking.  No go on the laptop.  So out of luck.  Hopefully the Ipad...

I also assume it's not as good as wifi.  But if I'm just trying to check on email or something or get something from the internet, it may be just fine.  Maybe a bit slow for music or TV streaming?

Hey TAN.  I've got the "Joe Pass" station going on Pandora right this second.  Old time jazz guitar kind of fits the bill for me at work because it's interesting enough to be stimulating, but not quite gripping enough to be distracting.  I might have to try Hawaiian too - that sounds like it has potential for the office.

So what's going on?  Dessert in Bali? (please let it be Bali, not Mali)

That's weird... I also have an HTC phone, the Rezound, and to the best of my knowledge, I'm not locked out at all (it's been a while since I've tried it, so perhaps I am now?).  I wonder if the difference is my phone is from Verizon while yours is Sprint.  They could be the exact same phone, but they'll have different names because HTC (and all phone vendors) simply OEM different builds of the same product to the various company specs... so Sprint may have requested a HotSpot lock where Verizon perhaps has not?

Chris, you need to put a date in your sig line.  That way I can say "nice new sig line" and not feel silly when you say "I've had it there for a month!"

On a happy-awesome geek thing at work... they just put a 256GB SSD into my laptop.  Things are STUUUPIIIID FAAAST now

Actually, it doesn't matter how fast your machine is if your internet connection is as slow as ours is lately...
